This charming cottage has an incredible view with a large deck sitting on the dunes, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. No long walkway to the beach...just step into the sand from the deck. Soak in the beauty of God's creation as you breath in the sights and sounds of the waves.
Let the beautiful sunrise envelope you as you sip your morning coffee. In the evenings, after a stroll along the beach, spread a blanket and watch the stars as the waves splash beside you. It is rejuvenating for your body and soul!
This is a special retreat. We call it our Island Oasis. We have enjoyed many vacations here and hope that you will find it as inviting as we have.
We have found that no matter where we travel, we long for our island oasis. For all the years we have spent here, we continue to discover new and exciting things to do.
From horse drawn carriage rides along the cobblestone streets of downtown Fernandina to segway excursions through the national parks to daytrips to Jacksonville's Zoo or Cumberland Island, there are many activities to keep you busy. We just seem to find that we prefer to head back to the Little Cottage in the Dunes.
We have vacationed on Amelia Island since I was a child. After I had children, we continued to visit Amelia Island. At some point we decided to visit other beaches. My children begged to go back to Amelia Island! We have always enjoyed searching for sharks' teeth, collecting seashells, biking downtown for ice-cream, feeding the birds.....Amelia Island is the place we long to be!
We fell in love with this property because of this little cottage. When I saw the unbelievable view of the ocean from inside the cottage, I started to cry. (And my husband knew it was a 'done deal'!) Our cottage has so much charm and character! It was built years ago, before the building setbacks were put in place. The location of our cottage is grandfathered in and it is right on the sand! You just can't get any closer to the water! I think Amelia Island is special because it is not too commercialized. When you drive onto the island, you immediately feel the slower pace, the relaxed feel of the island! The main beach street has some new construction, but it also has a nice mix of old beach cottages that have been in families for years! It really adds a lot of character to the island. If you visit the downtown, you do feel as though you have stepped back in time. Families are strolling along the sidewalks and peeking into charming shops, locally owned bookstores, and coffee shops. You can't leave downtown without a taste of ice-cream or homemade fudge from the Fantastic Fudge Shop!
Amy was amazing and helpful and we had a perfect honeymoon. 10/10 we would visit again and stay at the cottage.
We spent a lovely week at the cottage on the beach. It is private, quiet and well appointed.
The beach is just steps away and the deck is a nice option as well. Fernandinho Beach is charming and only 2 hours away from Savannah if interested in a side trip.
There is a beach restaurant an easy walk from the cottage.
By the time spring break rolls around every year, I am ready to relax. This cottage is the perfect destination. My daughter and I are both educators so it was a perfect fit for us. My favorite thing about this cottage is being able to wake up and see the sunrise - absolutely stunning! The cottage itself feels like home away from home. Everything you need for the beach is right there from beach towels to beach chairs. This time of year can be on the cooler side so the deck is the perfect place to soak up the sun. Then you can walk down the beach as desired. There is always something to do in Fernandina. My favorite spot is the Y. I attended yoga every day and sometimes twice a day. It is so reasonable and offers a variety of activities. Lots of wonderful restaurants to try. I love the local flavor. I can not wait to return!
My wife and I vacationed here in April 2016. I'm going to "cut to the chase"... What you see in the website images is exactly what you get - we found no hidden or disappointing surprises. Everything you need is there at the cottage - nothing is missing or needed.
House was Immaculate. All furnishings were upscale and clean. Interior was pleasantly, cheerfully and stylishly decorated. Kitchen was supplied efficiently with high quality items. Beds were very comfortable and linens and pillows were of excellent quality. The view of the sand dunes, beach and ocean was amazing. A one minute walk to swim.
There is so much to enjoy and experience in-and-around Amelia Island, I could write another page describing. We never turned the TV on for the whole week and that, I guess, should speak volumes.
If you come and complain and get bored here - see a therapist. I'm sure there's one somewhere in Fernandina.
We spent a delightful 2 weeks at the Cottage by the Sea. Indeed, the cottage is just steps from the ocean. The view from the living room is breathtaking. The cottage is very well equipped. The bed was very comfortable. Plenty of towels were provided, and there was a washer and dryer if needed. The kitchen was supplied with everything we needed for cooking, and we did cook a fair amount of meals there.
There are many restaurants within a short distance from the cottage. We visited during Fernandina Beach's Restaurant Week, and had the opportunity to try several. Fort Clinch State Park is a great place to visit, even walkable along the shore from the cottage if you feel energetic. The historic downtown of Fernandina Beach is a great place to spend some time. We took long walks on the beach, looking for shells and shark's teeth. Day trips to Savannah or St Augustine could also be taken.
We had a wonderful time and definitely plan to return.
We have stayed in cottages and condos from Bar Harbor to the Florida Keys, and this is the most wonderful cottage of all! The cottage is beautiful and comfortable and so lovingly restored and maintained, while the proximity to the beach and to the center of town make it the perfect location -- all with so much quiet and privacy! Thanks so much, Amy, for allowing us to enjoy your personal Shangri-La.
