'Right on the Beach Cottage'

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This charming cottage has an incredible view with a large deck sitting on the dunes, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. No long walkway to the beach...just step into the sand from the deck. Soak in the beauty of God's creation as you breath in the sights and sounds of the waves.

Let the beautiful sunrise envelope you as you sip your morning coffee. In the evenings, after a stroll along the beach, spread a blanket and watch the stars as the waves splash beside you. It is rejuvenating for your body and soul!

This is a special retreat. We call it our Island Oasis. We have enjoyed many vacations here and hope that you will find it as inviting as we have.

We have found that no matter where we travel, we long for our island oasis. For all the years we have spent here, we continue to discover new and exciting things to do.

From horse drawn carriage rides along the cobblestone streets of downtown Fernandina to segway excursions through the national parks to daytrips to Jacksonville's Zoo or Cumberland Island, there are many activities to keep you busy. We just seem to find that we prefer to head back to the Little Cottage in the Dunes.

Why Amy Davis chose Amelia Island

We have vacationed on Amelia Island since I was a child. After I had children, we continued to visit Amelia Island. At some point we decided to visit other beaches. My children begged to go back to Amelia Island! We have always enjoyed searching for sharks' teeth, collecting seashells, biking downtown for ice-cream, feeding the birds.....Amelia Island is the place we long to be!

What makes this cottage unique

We fell in love with this property because of this little cottage. When I saw the unbelievable view of the ocean from inside the cottage, I started to cry. (And my husband knew it was a 'done deal'!) Our cottage has so much charm and character! It was built years ago, before the building setbacks were put in place. The location of our cottage is grandfathered in and it is right on the sand! You just can't get any closer to the water! I think Amelia Island is special because it is not too commercialized. When you drive onto the island, you immediately feel the slower pace, the relaxed feel of the island! The main beach street has some new construction, but it also has a nice mix of old beach cottages that have been in families for years! It really adds a lot of character to the island. If you visit the downtown, you do feel as though you have stepped back in time. Families are strolling along the sidewalks and peeking into charming shops, locally owned bookstores, and coffee shops. You can't leave downtown without a taste of ice-cream or homemade fudge from the Fantastic Fudge Shop!

A month in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this sweet little cottage for the month of January. Although the weather didn't always cooperate, this little slice of heaven more than made up for Mother Nature! It was amazing to be so close to the beach, something that everyone wants but not everyone gets! With this cottage you get it EVERY day, and every day it changes and reminds you of how wonderful this Earth and life is! You can hear the waves as they lull you to sleep each night and the amazing sunrises are a great reason to get up early! Sit on the deck in the mornings with your coffee and you may spy a pod of dolphin on a fishing excursion! In the distance you can see the shrimp boats and container ships as they pass by. We brought our binoculars and were so happy we did!

The cottage is really well appointed, very well maintained and very comfortable with plenty of seating space and a nice king size bed, which was a definite requirement for us! Although there are many great places to eat in the area, we do love to cook, and I found the kitchen to be well stocked with all the things I needed. There were plenty of towels, blankets, and a washer and dryer. It's a 2 minute walk to the Sandbar Kitchen where you can go enjoy happy hour and some music and a nice bite to eat. Bring your bicycles! The island is easy to navigate and bike friendly. You can also rent bikes across from Sliders about a mile up the road to the South.

There's nothing like grabbing your favorite beverage and having a seat on the deck to people watch and listen to the ocean or grab one of the chairs they provide for the beach and plop yourself down for the afternoon right on the sand a mere few steps away from your cottage. Do bring some good beach shoes as there are lots of shells on this beach. Great for those who love to collect!

It is quitet at night, and one thing I loved about this cottage is that it is not directly on the road. It is buffered by another house in front of it so you don't hear as much road noise on A1A.

Amy is the nicest person you will ever meet, and she checked in with me to make sure that we were happy and warm! We even got to meet her and her adorable Great Dane puppy as she came to Amelia for a weekend while we were there.

We loved our time here so much we are returning next year! Thank you Amy for sharing your beautiful cottage with us.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review of your visit to our Cottage by the Sea! Having guests like you makes sharing our home a pleasurable experience. I don’t get to personally meet all of my guests but it was a real treat to meet you two! Our hearts connected right away because I could tell you love the island as much as I do! I enjoyed visiting with you and listening to Keith’s beautiful music! I look forward to seeing you again next January! ☀️☀️☀️

Perfect place to decompress!

  • 5 of 5

After experiencing losing our roof in Marco Island during Irma and dealing with my husband's surgery shortly afterwards, we were ready to escape from the stresses of recent life events! We arrived after dark, so were not able to see the beach until the next morning. I cannot adequately express how gazing out onto the ocean and feeling the breeze and hearing the waves immediately calmed our souls. As we took our first walk on the beach we had an overwhelming feeling that everything was going to be just fine. We actually enjoyed the cooler weather and even the few stormy all felt wonderful. The cottage may be small but it doesn't feel small as the layout is very comfortable. Amy was accessible, friendly, and helpful. We will return as often as we can! Not many places left where one can still experience that 'old Florida' feeling.
