A 4X4 VEHICLE IS NEEDED TO GET TO THIS BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY
We choose this location because of the elevation and the surrounding vegetation and wildlife that can be observed from the house.
This property is unique because of its high quality woodwork. Its like a boat in the sky! The privacy and surrounding canopy also make this is a special property. Thirdly, the bird's nest bedroom is truly an opportunity to feel like you are sleeping in the trees! Not to be missed!
The house was very clean and well maintained. The nights were comfortable sleeping under the netting and listening to the rain. It rained most nights during our stay and was sunny most day. The area surrounding the house was very peaceful and private. We enjoyed listening to the abundant wildlife in the rain-forest, howler monkeys and all kinds of birds. After spending the day sightseeing and touring the local area, it was so nice to come back to the spacious house to relax and get ready for the next day's adventure. Stephanie and Johanna were a great help in getting us checked into the house, even though we were a little late arriving due to the holiday traffic. They even helped with arranging a rafting trip on the Pacuare river where we were picked up at a nearby hotel. We rented a 4X4 and had no trouble at all getting up the hill. We loved staying at the Canopy House.
My wife and I just spent a month this winter getting away from the dark sky and rain in Seattle and enjoying the bright sun and warm rain at 9 degrees north, what a difference. Half our time was on the Pacific side and the rest on the Caribe with a week at Canopy House enjoying Los Brisas. I'm a building contractor so was especially impressed with the construction which is very creative both in design and impeccable execution, but I'm sure everyone would also be impressed with the way the house works with the site. The other name is Los Brisas and the house has long runs of opening window/doors to allow a free flow of the prevailing breeze to flow through. It keeps the house cool and also helps to bring a sense of bringing the outside in, a very cool design feature. The porches at different levels and on different sides give you a opportunity to view the jungle with close in as well as far off views. We heard a zillion birds singing at dawn and the monkeys swarming through and leaping down about 50 feet from a very tall tree nearby into a tiny tree, to cross the driveway right in front was a highlight of our trip.
The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked in almost every night so we would't miss any of the action.
The other outstanding feature of the property is the property booking and management company. Caribe Sur Rentals and Green Management treated us like we were their most important guests ever and I'm sure that's the way they treat everyone. Canopy House and the grounds were clean and presented more like a fine resort than a vacation rental. These folks are as good at what they do as you could expect.
To simply put it, my husband described Canopy House as the vacation rental that he will never forget in his life!
You cannot get more closer to nature yet feel at home at the same time when you spend your vacation here. You can still get connected to internet and be in digital world, but who wants it when nature has so much entertainment ready for you. The howler monkeys orchestra in jungle comes to life at night and various kinds of birds wake you up early in the morning with their sweet chirping. We even spotted Toucans, humming birds, white-faced capuchin monkeys up close. The stars in the night sky, the sound of waves breaking from afar, this place has plenty to offer. The first morning, i strolled outside near the house and came across small ants and poison dart frogs. Dont worry, they keep to themselves and don't bother you. Inside the house, the architecture is excellent and blends with the surroundings. The kitchen was very well equipped and to our surprise, they provided gallons of drinking water too. We pretty much cooked at home with locally available vegetables. There is a grocery store nearby where you can get all necessary items. The only cringe we had was the outdoor bathtub, the drain was not latching properly and i wished it was a jacuzzi that can fit more than one person.
But it was not a deal breaker at all. Outdoor hammock was an excellent addition, i loved every minute i spent lying on the hammock. People at the cases del caribe were extremely helpful and guided us with the day trips and places to see. The beach is not too far and boy the waves are so huge(it was a full moon) we had a blast on the beaches. Just make sure you get a 4x4 vehicle as the house is located on uphill.
It's true: sitting up in the canopy is stunning. We saw toucans swooping, one sloth ascending a tree while munching down large heart shaped leaves in three bites, a huge dragonfly, and listened to a veritable orchestra of wildlife that was invisible beyond the foliage. The upstairs bathroom is open to the jungle, as is the deck. The uppermost room opens on all sides, and we chose this room so we could watch looming storms approach as we fell asleep. So those are the pluses of the house. But there are some drawbacks, too. The kitchen is stocked with cooking equipment and coffee and sugar, but no oil, salt/pepper, so be prepared to bring everything you need for cooking. Lights in the kitchen work intermittently. The house itself is much darker than it appears in the pictures, so we spent every minute outside; for this reason it would be nice if there was a small table for outdoor eating. The seal/gasket in the jacuzzi tub no longer seals to hold water, so we were unable to enjoy a bath, and the shower nozzle there doesn't give good pressure. We took showers downstairs/inside bathroom. Lastly, the top floor bed was not made up with linens, so thankfully we were able to steal sheets from the bed downstairs, so if you're going to have 6 people sleeping here, definitely let them know in advance. It takes ten minutes to walk to the main road, pretty steep, you definitely need 4x4 to drive up to it, just FYI. Anyway, this is a nice place, but I would choose a different spot next time. It just depends what you're looking for.
We really enjoyed our stay at the house. The picture they don't have here, and it should be here, is one of the jacuzzi on the balcony overlooking the jungle 60 feet up to the tops of the trees and 30 feet down to the ground. Amazing spot and location.
We stayed at casa brisas for 8 memorable nights. Each afternoon we sat on the porch and watched an endless display of howler monkeys and tropical birds fill the landscape. The open concept of the house makes you feel part of the jungle while also providing the comfort of luxurious living. It’s a short walk to the gorgeous beaches and fine restaurants that make up this hidden gem of an area. Highly recommended!!!
Playa Chiquita, 7 Km southern Puerto Viejo, as its name indicates, is a succession of small, white sandy beaches, certain of which are protected by a reef. It's a very friendly/family neighborhood with restaurants, grocery store (where you can find international products), ice cream shop, within walking distance. Our main office is located in Playa Chiquita, next to the school that says "Centro Educativo Playa Chiquita Punta Uva".
