Hetch Hetchy House: Get away, unwind, and adventure through Yosemite and more

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,100 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Home, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

2015 marks the inaugural year for the Hetch-Hetchy House, named after the tall grass that grows ing the high sierra valleys. The red exterior opens to colorful interior and brand new furnishings. The Tuolumne River, babbling by just feet away, is the perfect backdrop for lounging on the covered deck and grilling up your summer time supper! ( each house has it's own BBQ)

The living area has an open floor plan allowing guests to continually enjoy each other's company while in the kitchen, dining area, or living area. The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher.

The Hetch-Hetchy House sleeps 6 people. There are 2 bedrooms, with queen size beds, and the sofa in the living room pulls out to a queen sized bed.

The Hetch-Hetchy House is fully equipped with central heat and air, 1 full bathroom, washer and dryer, dishwasher, flat screen TV (in the living room), and a DVD player, along with a dvd library.

We also have large gardens and lawns to play games and explore not to mention that we are in the middle of national forest so there is quite a bit of hiking that can be done right here at Spinning Wheel Yosemite. The Tuolumne river is also just a few yards away and is great for fishing and swimming.

You might not be surprised but we feel we must let you know, the internet is not a feature that we boast about out here. Being tucked away in the National Forest internet access is technically available, but it is limited, unreliable, and slow (and when we say slow we mean very slow). Basically you can check you email at our airstream business center.

So come on out, relax, read a book, watch a movie, play some games, look for the wild life and unwind at Spinning Wheel Yosemite!

Access to swimming pool 12 noon-5pm and hot tub 6:30-8:30pm.

The base rate is for 2 people at $295/night from January 1st through April 30th-$350 from May 1st through September 30th- $295/night from October 1st through December 31st . Additional people are charged $35 per night per person.

Theses fees are added to the base rate:

Cleaning fee ($95.00)

Tax on total (10%)

Keywords: retreat, national forest, Yosemite, Tuolumne river, fishing, vacation, secluded

About Dharma Barsotti & Eliote Durham

The Barsotti family begin vacationing at Spinning Wheel well before 1982. In 1982 when presented with the opportunity to purchase Spinning Wheel, there was no hesitation. Because of their love for the area they crafted a place where others could come and vacation as well. In 2013 Dharma and Eliote took over the property and are now the owners of Spinning Wheel Yosemite. Spinning Wheel Yosemite experienced a big forest fire in 2013 and as a result we had to rebuild this home. It's now a brand new vacation home with all the amenities of modern living while still in a beautiful forest environment.

Dharma Barsotti & Eliote Durham purchased this house in 1982

Why Dharma Barsotti & Eliote Durham chose Yosemite Area

Unlike many other vacation properties in the area Spinning Wheel Yosemite offers a very private experience, being in the middle of national forest with no other neighbors for several miles. Each Home (there are 5 in total) is located far enough away from the other where you can feel both connected (if you are renting multiple properties) or private (if you are using one house). Many people come and enjoy staying on the property so much (hiking, BBQing, swimming, lounging by the river and pool, etc...) that they are happy to stay right here. And yes Spinning Wheel Yosemite is just a short drive to the Western entrance to Yosemite making it the perfect getaway just outside of the park.

What makes this house unique

The middle fork of the Tuolumne River runs through the property and holds a special place in our hearts. In the summer it provides a wonderful place to lounge and beat the summer heat. Not to mention the great fishing! And we are very secluded so no crowds or noise from the outside world

The homes have been individually crafted up to the last detail. Stones were hand selected and placed on many of the cabins and each one has a story. Much of the art within the cabins and on the property is made by one of the Barsotti's. Which helps to make Spinning Wheel Yosemite feel like a comfortable "home away from home" get away.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful, relaxing, and rejuvenating. The property is beautiful, the cabin well appointed, the owners incredibly helpful and gracious. It is a short drive to Yosemite north entrance, which has incredible views on the way to the valley. After a full day in Yosemite valley it was wonderful to be able to come back to a hot shower, and sleep in a comfortable bed. The next day we stayed on the property and completely relaxed by swimming in the river, collecting berries and reading. Spinning wheel is wonderful!

Fabulous week

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous hosts with great advice about the surrounding areas and places to visit. Our kids had such fun exploring the place and especially playing in the shallow river. With early hikes in the park each morning and lazing by the pool in the afternoon it was a perfect holiday for us and our 3 children. Thanks for sharing your idyllic place with us.

Fun and unique Yosemite vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Riverside Cabin while vacationing in Yosemite (parents + toddler), and loved it! The house is located on a large, beautiful stretch of forest property, complete with river, fishing hole, bridge, swimming pool, hot tub, sandbox, trampoline, lawns, and just about anything you'd need to have fun without leaving the property (especially if you go there with young kids). This is a very unique and fun vacation spot. The house itself is comfortable, with a nice porch for outdoor dining and play; we cooked most meals at the house. The owners are very friendly and warm, they gave us lots of good advice about where to go and what to see, shared fun stories about the beautiful artwork on the property, and in general make sure that everyone's stay is comfortable and memorable. Yosemite Valley is about 45 minutes away, but it feels much shorter due to the frequent scenic views. We'd definitely stay here again!

Perfect get away!

  • 5 of 5

My wife & 3 sons stayed in early July for 5 days. It was perfectly remote. The only people who would go there are guests, so it is VERY quiet. It is also close to Hetch Hetchy, an often overlooked jewel of Yosemite. The cabin was just right. It has the necessary creature comforts to avoid roughing it, but it has the solitude of camping, such as a babbling brook & 1,000,000 stars at night. There's no cable, but a great selection of movies on DVD to enjoy. The hosts are gracious. The pool is a nice treat. Groveland is a 20 minute drive away for groceries. I can't wait to go back & can't recommend Riverside highly enough. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

You turn in from the road to a dirt track and begin to wonder if you've made a wrong turn somewhere but just about a quarter mile in...

A huge thank you to Peter for making us feel completely at home. When we arrived at SW, Peter directed us to our cabin and showed us around. I think we became instant friends. Later we found out that he had directed us to the wrong cabin! Although we had to move, he handled it wonderfully and delicately. Everything got sorted out quickly, and after an awe-inspiring day at Yosemite, we came back to the right cabin (with all our things moved for us!)

Everything was perfect. Spinning Wheel is a serene and beautiful place. A gem in the wilderness. This is the place for us... Very charming, a little rustic, and completely homely, just the way we like it. We hope to visit often.

FAR Better than a hotel!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with our two boys stayed here this June (2010) and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay or better hosts! The pictures on this page don't do the cabin or property justice! Pete and Deb were always available to answer questions both before our stay and during. This cabin is quite secluded and made for a wonderful retreat! It's fully stocked with all the necessities, pots and pans, and everything else you may need. The cabin was immaculately cleaned and newly renovated. Our boys absolutely loved being able to explore outside and down by the river without feeling like they were bothering anyone. The hamock made for a wonderful place to relax and read after long hikes in Yosemite. You certainly won't go wrong by staying in this incredible cabin!

Owner's Response: Wow Stacey! Thanks, we're so glad you had such a good time. It's great you took the trouble to do this review, we really appreciate it! We were just surprised by the last 2 guests that stayed in other houses over the last 2 days; the Sun House and the River House, both wanted to extend their stays beyond what they had booked. I guess we must be doing something right. We're always happy when our guests are happy. It was great having you at Spinning Wheel Yosemite! Thanks again and All the best! Deb and Peter
