About The Owner

I love to spend quality time with my family at Snowshoe. It's my second home. I wish I could live there full time!

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Slaty Fork

I love Snowshoe for it's beautiful mountains and lots of snow! It's the best resort in the Mid-Atlantic. It's worth the drive! Our cabin is located in a very private subdivision that is only 2 miles to the entrance and 10 minutes from the top of the mountain.

What makes this house unique

Creek with Waterfall on property. Awesome view of a the mountains and a pasture with horses. You can go sledding in the back yard in the winter and exploring/hiking during the summer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Jim,

I just wanted to write and thank you for the use of your home last week. While the weather may have been far from perfect, we really enjoyed our time there. It was comfortable, and clean and the peace and quiet was just what we needed. And the only bear we saw was running across the road up by Summit Lake.We will be recommending your home to friends and may be in touch for an extended weekend for ourselves as well.

Beautiful, cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Moose Lodge! Our family stays in Pocahontas county every fall to enjoy the foliage and get away from our busy lives, but this was our first stay at Moose Lodge. The cabin was very beautiful, spacious, clean, and well-appointed. We loved the large wrap around deck and spent a lot of time outside, enjoying the weather. When we arrived, there were some dead insects lying around the cabin. We contacted the owner and he promptly responded and let us know that they had recently treated the cabin (the reason for the dead insects) and that he would send someone out ASAP. Two separate people came out to help within hours. We greatly appreciated his prompt response and will likely be back to stay at Moose Lodge again. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin!

A quiet retreat for the weekend...

  • 4 of 5

My wife and picked up our college students from their respective Virginia schools for a quiet getaway. This venue was a great choice. Word of caution, there is not a lot to do in the off season in Snowshoe. However, for our purposes it was a great retreat. We slept in late after arriving late. Woke to a beautiful view of the mountains, which we continued to enjoy over bacon, eggs and coffee. We took our dog for a walk around the Snowshoe resort in the afternoon and ate pizza at Cheat Mountain. In the afternoon we watched football and dined on steaks and potatoes. We closed the day with a round of board games, a few cocktails/beers and a dip in the hot tub. If this is your idea of relaxation, you'll enjoy this place.

Great location, spacious home with wonderful amenities.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying in this cabin. It is a fantastic location for any season very close to snowshoe with plenty to do but quiet and secluded. The house is open and spacious and far more than we need for two people but it's nice and quiet. We love the hot tub!

A Beautiful Private Getaway So Close to Snowshoe

  • 5 of 5

This was our second August trip to the Moose Lodge. It is so private, the view are gorgeous, and the cabin has everything you need to enjoy the area. We only had 3 people, but there are 3 bedrooms and plenty of beds as well as two full bathrooms. It was very clean when we arrived, towels and other household items left welcomingly for us to get started on our vacation. Only a short ride to Snowshoe and we enjoyed swimming/stand-up paddle boarding at the lake, fishing, riding the chair lift, eating/shipping at the village, and downhill mountain biking. In the past we have also bought passes to Split Rock pools and that's especially great for kids. I'm ready now to try the Moose Lodge in winter!

Scenic, isolated, great trails for hiking, challenging gravel road to reach location,.

  • 3 of 5

Great dog friendly cabin and very large. Poorly maintained, extremely dirty, bathroom downstairs was especially bad, had to clean before using. Wasp issues upstairs and dead ladybugs galore. I choose this cabin, after reading every review, for the high price and promising reviews, I was extremely disappointed in the cabin. Outside surrounding area is gorgeous and isolated, both important to me. Overall, it didn't live up to the hype.

Owner's Response: I sent this to the guest below but have not had a response...our cabin is very easy to access. Hello Deborah, I noticed your review on my website. I’m so sorry to hear of your displeasure. I wish you would have reached out to me to try to resolve any issues before posting a this review. I could have had my house cleaner come out to address any issues. I take pride in providing a nice place for families to vacation and take pride in receiving positive reviews. I always ask for feedback form every guests so I can tend to any issues that they noticed. Sincerely, Jim

Cozy cabin with gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5

We came with two families to ski/ride at Snowshoe. The cabin is very convenient to the mountain. I think it took us 15 minutes from the door to the top of Snowshoe. The cabin has a great set up for families with kids. The loft has double bunk beds for the kids and a king for the parents. It also has an additional day bed if you have 3 kids! There are two bedrooms downstairs and two full baths for the house. The kitchen is well stocked. The decor is charming with lots of moose! There are windows everywhere to let in the gorgeous views and the hot tub was delightful for the evening after the slopes! We will definitely stay here again.
