About this property

Casa Vida - Lyle Lovett Wrote 3 Songs Here!

We were honored to learn that Lyle Lovett had been a guest at Casa Vida and had written three songs during his stay. He expressed his thanks in the guest book entry shown that is framed at the house. You will be inspired, too, by your stay at Casa Vida ('Life House'), whose name signifies it's contribution to the lives of our guests. We hope that your visit to Casa Vida will also be a treasured experience, to be shared with friends and family and repeated as often as possible.Casa Vida offers the comforts of home, while immersing our guests in the natural and historical perspectives of the Big Bend region. The house itself, a renovated adobe featured in Alpine's historic home tour, is fully furnished and decorated with authentic pieces native to the rugged, yet refined confluence of Mexican, Texan, and Western cultures that makes the legendary Big Bend Country unique in so many ways.Information below details the myriad amenities of Casa Vida.

Two separate and private living areas, joined by access to the remarkable and fully supplied kitchen, offer ideal accommodations for two couples or a couple and additional family or friends. Bring the friends or grandparents and stay in complete comfort and harmony!

The spacious grounds of Casa Vida offer privacy and ambiance that enhance enjoyment of the views of surrounding mountains and superb Alpine climate at 4500 feet elevation. Abundant sensory delights are guaranteed. Little known fact: Alpine's average high temperature for July and August is 89 degrees and its average night-time temperature for the same months is 65 degrees! (heaters and blankets provided year-round!)

Our guests at Casa Vida face an ongoing dilemma: whether to relax at the seductively peaceful and therapeutic house and grounds, experience the surrounding historic district with its distinctive architecture, shops, art galleries, restaurants, and entertainment (you've got to check out Big Bend's only honky tonk, Railroad Blues!)-all in walking distance, or set out on an easy day trip to explore the natural and cultural wonders that lie to the north, south, east, and west.

A quick look at a map and internet info will show you that Alpine is the best home-base from which to see the majestic and multi-faceted Big Bend Country. Let us share Casa Vida-a home that will become a part of your life!

Loved it all!
The property was so cutely decorated. I love all the Talavera pottery items. There were three of us so we had plenty of room and privacy. We enjoyed Alpine and went on day trips to Big Bend, Fort Davis and Macdonald Observatory We would for sure stay here again. Very reasonable rates

Weekend stay, definitely returning!!
Spent a weekend in Alpine to visit with some family and enjoyed this home so much. It is decorated with thoughtful touches & we didn’t want for anything! The house is also centrally located to everything, but my favorite part is the outdoor space. It is a great place to sit under tge West Texas sky at night or in the morning with a cup of coffee. We will definitely return.

Romance, romance, romance!
Romantic! One of the many things that make this property so uniquely enjoyable is the absolute privacy—a beautiful weathered fence surrounds the periphery of the backyard. The master bedroom has double french doors that open onto a laid stone patio that is enclosed by a coyote fence, making the patio completely private—a great sunny place to have morning coffee in your robe and slippers. Located at the edge of the center of town makes it very walkable. We found this house and property to be exceedingly romantic with nicely appointed rooms in western/craftsman style, comfortable mattresses and pillows, screened windows that open easily and ceiling fans, a fully equipped airy kitchen and clean laundry facilities. Located in an extremely quiet neighborhood, this house also has a large cactus garden with many varieties that give the property a Southwestern ranch landscape feel. For us this place was the type of house I always hope for but generally can’t find. Robert the owner was great and the only major drawback I found was we had to leave and reenter day to day reality. Casa Vida is a real gem with a nice dose of magic.

Alpine stay
The lock box was confusing; it was hard to open. The key was not labeled as to which door to unlock; the front door lock was loose and antiquated. The back bathroom sink was dirty. The floor around the master bed needs better cleaning and the mattress pad on that bed had a stain that looked like blood. The chairs outside had bird poop on them. The place was charming with all the nick nacks. It would have been nice to have regular coffee provided instead of a decaf coffee. A kettle would be nice too for those who want tea and maybe provide tea bags.

Items of concern
Good location for attending the Lone Star cowboy Poetry Gathering, February 14-18. However, problems were present. The coffeemaker had not been cleaned; filter and grounds were still in the coffeemaker. Several items were left in the refrigerator. We removed the items we took, but left the other items. We purchased toilet paper and paper towels, unaware those items were in the laundry room until we left this morning, February 19, 2024.

Eclectic and adorable casa
House was exactly as described. Owner communication is good. Temps were cold during our stay, and they only have space heaters in the house so it was chilly. Overall, very spacious, much more than we really needed. Would be perfect during fall weather to enjoy a fire and the big Texas sky. Convenient location in town near food, shops, etc!

Really nice house in a quite location.
My wife and I spent 10 days traveling around West Texas. We stayed in this house the last 2 nights. It was our favorite place to stay on our trip. Super clean house in a nice location. Great outdoor areas to enjoy the evening. We loved the fact that Lyle Lovett wrote some songs there. It will be our go to place for future trips to Alpine.

Charming Place but poor management.
This is a really cute and unique place in a charming town. Lots of room and comfortable beds. Reasonably priced. We had issues with a couple of items not working, but the owner addressed them, and compensated us appropriately for our inconvenience. Highly recommended.

Memorable stay at Casa Vida!
Casa Vida was a great home-base to explore Big Bend National Park as well as the surrounding area. We drive into the park on two different days. The route from Alpine to the west entrance is especially picturesque. Drive takes a little under 1.5 hrs to get into the heart of the park. The house is charming and has very comfortable beds. We’d stay here again!

Enjoyable Alpine stay
Our group of four women found Casa Vida to be charming, well-located, and comfortable. It has great hang-out areas outside. We are native plant enthusiasts so enjoyed the interesting plantings and butterflies that abounded. The house layout is quirky, which we enjoyed, and we had plenty of room to spread out. We were comfortable even with this exceptionally warm September. We enjoyed being close enough to walk downtown and to Saturday Farmer's Market. The mural map was very helpful and most of our group followed the maps to visit as many murals as possible. Other favorite spots: the Century Bar & Grill, Guzzi Up, Front St. Bookstore, and Whitlock Art Studio.
