Our family began vacationing on Emerald Isle, North Carolina in the early 1990's, returning year after year to the same lovely and accommodating rental home, the beautiful white sandy beaches and the warm ocean waters. In 2001 an opportunity arose for us to build an oceanfront home and we seized upon it, building TRANQUILITY, our 3,300 sq ft, 6 bedroom beach house which was completed in May 2002. Our family of five children and eleven grandchildren have had a great time every year vacationing at TRANQUILITY, enjoying not only the beach, ocean, pool, hot tub and other amenities the house offers, but the day trips to the Lighthouse at Cape Lookout, the historic towns of Beaufort, New Bern and Swansboro, as well as visits to the recently renovated and expanded NC Aquarium, only 20 minutes away. We enjoyed the CRYSTAL COAST so much that in 2008 we moved to Swansboro, NC, 10 miles from Emerald Isle. As a retired nurse and engineer we have now committed ourselves to ensuring that the families who select TRANQUILITY as their vacation home enjoy the same pleasures and memorable family moments offered by EMERALD ISLE and the CRYSTAL COAST; the pleasures we and our family have enjoyed over the past 18 years. After vacationing on Emerald Isle for over 10 years staying; for one or two weeks each Summer; at the same lovely and accommodating rental home, enjoying the beaches, ocean and other attractions in the area, we decided we would purchase our own beach house if the opportunity presented itself. In 2001 the opportunity came. We built TRANQUILITY and have since enjoyed many wonderful vacations with family and friends. The memories we have are priceless.

What makes this house unique

Some of the activities which have made our vacations at TRANQUILITY so special are the gatherings of family and friends together to enjoy each others company; teaching the grandchildren to swim in the pool, body surf in the ocean and fish in Bogue Sound; flying kites on the beach; day trips to the Lighthouse at Cape Lookout; visits to the NC Aquarium on rainy days; cooking and eating fresh crabs and clams; bike riding to the ice cream shop; and in the cool months, sitting in the hot tub on a clear night, looking at and hearing the pounding surf, and gazing up at the starry starry sky wearing our ski hats and holding a glass of fine wine.

Perfect House & Perfect Location

Tranquility Shores was a perfect fit for our family of eight adults and five children, ages 5 to 11. The large family space on the second floor was ideal for visiting, working puzzles, and reading. The rectangular dining table on that level accommodated all eight adults, while the children ate at the breakfast table. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots and pans, spices, and a double set of dishes and cutlery.

We absolutely loved the large, shaded deck, on the second floor, where the sea breeze blew cool ocean air all the time. The children split their time between the ocean and the pool. The ocean waves were vigorous enough for bogey boards, climaxing in gentle waves running up the beach. The beach was clean, uncrowded, and close to the house. The owner provided two foot-wash stations on the board walk and an outdoor shower to minimize the amount of sand brought into the house.

The biggest surprise was that the basement was quite a bit larger than I expected, with a full bath, and two futon-couches around a TV area. There was also a full-sized pool table, foosball table, a second refrigerator, and a desk. We were glad for the extra room as our tween migrated to one of the futons mid-week.

We highly recommend Tranquility Shores, and hope to return in future years.

Beach rentals come no better.

When one walks onto the property they recognize the deep pride George and Suzanne take in providing a high quality, beautiful, and very functional rental.

This is our 3d summer stay at Tranquility and our entire family, adults and children love this place. Has all the amenities one could hope for.

A fantastic one-week family gathering at Emerald Isle "Tranquility" base!!!

The perfect place and plan for a three-family reunion on the beach. Six adults and seven children with room for more. We never left "Tranquility"; there was no reason to. Right on the beach, one minute from the ocean. A pool on the first level and an elevated hot tub with balconies on the second and third levels all gave great views of the ocean and beach. A game room with pool table and large flat screen TV for viewing and video games. The full kitchen and dining area had everything we needed for a great week of fun. Our family has experienced multiple reunions but this one was declared as the best ever! Experience "Tranquility" at Emerald Isle!

Paradise!!!

We just experienced a week of Heaven on Earth!!! We never will be able to find a more perfect place!!! The owners George and Suzanne have thought of everything to make the accommodations the best! We were impressed by their personal greeting as we arrived! The home is set up with as much convenience as possible for someone with a disability. So impressive and so rare. We spent as much time as we could between the beach, the private pool, and the hot tub. We could have been perfectly content never to leave this house, as there were so many opportunities for fun within the house as well. Holidays and special occasions could be spectacular here! Thank you, George and Suzanne, from the bottom of our hearts!!! We hope to find a way to come back someday really soon!!!

Just back from one of the best weeks of family vacation!!!

This was an absolutely beautiful home and location. It was fully stocked with anything you could possibly need or want. George and Suzanne met us to go over where everything was when we arrived and left us the best chocolate covered pretzels ever. We had a great family vacation together. There was plenty of room for all of the children and the grandchildren, with so much to do. The weather was beautiful and you just cannot beat the view of the ocean from the porches and pool area. We certainly plan on doing this again. It was marvelous.

Thank you again George and Suzanee for sharing your wonderful home with us.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is only 20 minutes away and a great place to visit for both children and adults. The town of Beaufort, known for the legend of Blackbeard, has many fine restaurants, the North Carolina Maritime Museum (no entry fee) and many ferry services with tours to Shackleford Banks to see wild horses. There are also boat tours available to visit the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Another great place to visit is Fort Macon State Park (no entry fee). It is well worth spending a couple of hours in their outstanding visitors center and walking through the old fort. About an hour away is the city of New Bern, North Carolina's capital in the late 1700s. The capital was housed in Tryon Palace, completed in 1770 and built by British Governor William Tryon. Tryon Palace is a place well worth visiting. New Bern, the home of author Nicholas Sparks and the birthplace of Pepsi, is an historic city with fine restaurants and many attractions.

We offer a Military Discount of 10%, up to $500., for Active Duty Military Personnel.

The Damage Deposit is accepted in the form of a $400 check, or an authorization on your credit card, the week prior to your arrival. After you depart the check will be returned to you, or the authorization will be cancelled, if the beach house is not damaged.

We require a deposit of 1/3 of the rent at booking. A second payment of 1/3 the rent is scheduled halfway between the booking date and 45 days prior to occupancy. The balance of the rent (1/3) plus the taxes (12.75%) are due 45 days prior to occupancy.
