Overview

About the property

5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5 Baths, Sleeps 20+

This beautifully maintained home is very roomy, designed for large groups. It comfortably accommodates up to 20 in a homey atmosphere for a family, church ministry, club or other retreat. With 2 king beds, 5 queen beds, 5 full beds, 7 twin beds and three roll-away, there are so many options for sleeping arrangements that you can arrange your group easily.

Nestled deep in the majestic western Sierras (but easily accessible by road) our 4,000 square foot retreat with its spacious kitchen, 4.5 baths, 8-12 person bunkroom (bottom bunks are full-size beds), 3 big master bedrooms (one with extra futon bed/couch and mini-fridge), living room, den and well equipped meeting room (or extra large bedroom), man-cave with full size pool table and surround sound hi-res TV, this retreat has an atmosphere of quiet and comfort.

Fall, spring and summer guests enjoy spring skiing, hundreds of miles of hiking and bike trails (one even passes through our backyard), popular 4 wheel drive roads, rock climbing, backpacking, guided horse tours, world class freshwater fishing (lake and stream, stocked and native), natural hot springs, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, wake boarding, water skiing, boating (rentals available) and nature viewing.

Winter Guests enjoy spectacular downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and sledding.

The "Queen's" bedroom is easily converted to a meeting room with worktables and chairs to seat up to 24 people. It has a sink and lots of electrical outlets for any activity; it is used for computer retreats, sewing workshops, business retreats and craft workshops. Upstairs and garage are handicap accessible, with a bathroom & shower for wheelchair access. The Man Cave offers a place to just hang out and make noise without bothering anyone else.

The constant on-demand water heater never runs out of hot water so even with a houseful of guests you have plenty! Fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops, all cooking gear, and a table seating 12 at a time.

This cabin does NOT have air conditioning, but Shaver Lake is rarely uncomfortably hot. Opening windows at night, then closing them in the morning can keep the house cooler.

Things you will love about this cabin: the beds are made up for you so you don't have to put sheets on when you arrive! The layout provides lots of seating arrangements and places for smaller groups to gather, so you can accommodate a large group and still have privacy for breakout groups, making it perfect for large families. There is a hiking trail off the back of the property, so you can hike most seasons (or snow shoe during the winter months) without driving anywhere. This is a very quiet neighborhood so you can really enjoy nature without seeing a lot of people; deer, coyote, raccoons and other creatures amble across the property all day and night. The roads and the driveway are cleared by a snow plow, so you won't be stuck in a large storm. There is a large deck to hang out on and enjoy the woods.

The HomeAway/VRBO system sends out messages to you that we cannot control. If you get messages from the system that are signed “Sincerely,” and my name, it came from the system, not from me. They have also implemented a fee that they keep, on top of the fees we pay them, for your use of their system. If you want to avoid this fees you can book directly with our management company. According to HomeAway, this fee covers the "Book with Confidence Guarantee" providing the following benefits: Comprehensive payment protection that protects your full rental payment against listing fraud, phishing, property significantly misrepresented and more; Premium customer service that is available 24/7 to help you if you have issues or questions regarding your stay; Rebooking assistance to help you find another vacation rental should your booking be cancelled by an owner or manager at the last minute; Security deposit protection to help you recover your deposit if it is wrongfully withheld.

If you purchase optional insurance from us, you do not also need to purchase CSA insurance; however, you can purchase both if you choose. Our optional insurance is paid to our carrier and covers us for any accidental damage you might cause, up to the $1000 limit. CSA is YOUR coverage and can be used if your charges for damages go over the limit of our insurance, as you will be charged for damages over this amount. Note that NO insurance covers reckless damage, for example broken furniture caused by out-of-control teen-agers. This insurance does not cover items you bring with you, but personal possessions you take with you are likely covered under your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy under an "All Risks" or "Personal Possessions" cover. The personal property coverage written into your policy will usually protect any possessions outside of the home anywhere worldwide, including in the car. Check with your insurance company if you have any questions.

About Owner

I love the Sierras! Hiking, swimming, fishing, skiing, horseback riding--all this and more! My favorite place in the world is Shaver Lake. I love to draw and paint, breathe the fresh piney air, and spend as much time as I can in Shaver Lake.

Owner purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Owner chose Shaver Lake

After visiting the Shaver Lake area nearly every summer since 1969, my husband and I purchased a bare lot and built our house. I designed it and drew the blueprints and my brother did most of the construction (though I built the deck with the help of my sister and several women friends.) All the photos and artwork in the house are mine. I do the "decorating" and maintain the house, while my husband Dave maintains the yard and helps with the Spring and Winter cleans. I designed the house to be comfortable for large groups of people, with plenty of meeting and sitting areas, lots of sleeping options, and nice views from the various rooms.

What makes this cabin unique

You'll love the master bedrooms (get away from it all) and the Man Cave (have a party!) You will find the hiking trail that crosses near the bottom of the property a lot of fun--you can hike or snow shoe for many miles without crossing a road. It's so quiet and peaceful in the mountains you will have a chance to really unwind and relax. Unlike most other rentals in Shaver Lake, we provide made up beds for you so you don't have to do this yourself.

Fabulous Weekend, Amazing Cabin, Perfect for a Large Group of multiple Families!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights and wished it was longer. We ended up having our whole family able to make it, a total of 10 adults and 8 kids, ranging from ages 2 to 72. I have to say, it slept everyone very comfortably. The write-up states that the cabin is deep in the woods and we almost avoided it because of this, however it is close to everything yet you feel deep away from everything. The deck in the back was ideal. We were able to watch the kids play all day adventuring around the cabin and into the woods. We were hoping for snow but the kids made like there was. They hunted for snow and brought it back and packed it into some of the hills around the cabin and sledded basically on wet dirt. I have to say, if there was snow this would be the PERFECT cabin to have fun sledding around. Plenty of great runs and you can watch the kids from the huge deck area. We enjoyed playing board games on the outside deck as well as around the large table in the dining area. We enjoyed having a fire in the fire pit out back. The bunk house was amazing, the kids loved it. The bunk room was ideal for our kids who ranged from 8-16 years old. The bedrooms for the adults were perfect as well, since two of them had extra futon beds we were able to have our smaller ones sleep with us, ages 2-4 but could have even slept adults they were full size futons. We had fun adventuring on the trails out back and even took one into town to get a little treat for the kiddos (a bit of a long hike but we needed it). We've ALL already discussed our next trip and it has this cabin as our first choice!!! You won't be disappointed if you rent it. Hope this write-up helps paint of picture of great family memories that for us will last a life time!!!

It's a very nice property! Roomy and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

We liked everything! The only thing that was bothersome was the squeaky bunk bed. Girls had a hard time falling asleep with the constant noise. Other than that, it was wonderful!!!!

Fantastic accommodations

  • 5 of 5

This property was chosen based on space for a larger group. They provided plenty of beds, activities (pool table, games, sleds, etc.) that made our stay worthwhile. There was more than enough room for our group. The house and area was really easy to find, and the property management and family were great to work with. We had great expectations for our first time and this cabin exceeded those expectations!

Excellent choice

  • 5 of 5

It has become an annual tradition for us to rent a large cabin for friends and family during the holidays. We have been in several different locations, and hands down, this is the nicest home. Cleanliness A+, spacious A+, linen service (its worth the extra $) A+, logistics/communication A+, decor A+, and did I mention cleanliness? We just left there and have already booked again for next year. I think this will become our tradition as long as we can scoop it up in time every year! It is maintained in impressive condition in a beautiful location, quiet and serene.

Nice and comfy lodge for a large family.

  • 3 of 5

It has been a long time since my family and I could get together and enjoy quality family time but it was a struggle to find a home large enough to fit our family. The Natal's family home was perfect, it had enough space to fit us all and we had a great time. Although you had to bring your own toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, detergent for laundry(the dryer was broken and couldn't be fixed) etc. everything else was supplied. Overall we would recommend this place and consider renting again.
