About Joe Castello

My wife and I met in 1988 while attending college. We married in 1995 and have a beautiful daughter. We really enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and boating. We live in the Bay Area and bought this as vacation home with the intention of enjoying it with family, friends, and guests.

Joe Castello purchased this house in 2009

Why Joe Castello chose Yosemite Area

I discovered Pine Mountain Lake as a teenager and quickly fell in love with the area. I love Pine Mountain Lake for it's scenic beauty, wildlife, wide range of activities, and close proximity to Yosemite National Park. It is a fantastic place to relax and unwind.

What makes this house unique

There is so much to do at Pine Mountain Lake. The house is located less than a block from the pool and clubhouse which makes for an easy, short walk. You can enjoy a round of golf, take a swim, or play tennis within minutes from the house. The beach and marina are just a short drive from the house. If you are in the mood to visit Yosemite, you will be at the park entrance in less than 30 minutes. Pine Mountain Lake has it all and we know you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The accommodations were ideal. All of us enjoyed the home's ambiance, great furniture, decorations and spacious deck. The bunk bed room was perfect for the young couple and their kids and the game room helped to keep them all occupied. We (collectively) golfed, fished, boated on Pine Mtn Lake, jumped on the water trampoline, toured Jamestown and Sonora... what else, barbequed +++ swam and jumped off the cliff at Rainbow Falls.

Yosemite lived up to our expectations and more, really beyond words... Perhaps John Muir said it best: "(Yosemite) is by far the grandest of all the special temples of Nature I was ever permitted to enter." We enjoyed a hike to the grand falls that drop into Hetch Hetchy and lingered there, after taking a dip in one of the icy cold pools.

Really a great time!

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Great home on a nice location in Groveland. It's on a golf course but not directly on it, there are trees in between. The game room is super, the layout of the house is practical and comfortable.

Every time you enter into the community you have to go through the main entrance where there is a security guard. They were very nice and helpful.

We used this as a bases to visit Yosemite, the location was great for this purpose: it's about 30 minutes to the entrance of the park and an other 30 minutes to the valley.

Familis stay with fun near Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house for multiple families to share and kids friendly with fun in the game room. Owner Joe is easy to reach and he is very nice to accommodate my last minute request, thank you so much! The house is safe in a gated community and very quiet neighbors. I am looking forward to come back in the future.

The last homely house east of the Sea

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights at Groveland, using it for excursions into the Yosemite NP. We found Groveland to be a very good base camp,. Aside from the splendid Mar-Val Supermarket there is a choice of suitable restaurants nearby. The closer you get to the NP, the more compromises you have to make in that respect. In turn you have to take the lengthy drive into account. To the entrance of Yosemite Valley it takes about an hour one way and after our fourth excursion in to the park we became a little tired of all the driving.

The house itself is a comfortable cabin style place with a lot of space for a larger party. We stayed with 4 adults and 5 little children and that worked out quite fine. The Pine Mountain Lake location is in the middle of nature, expect flocks of deer around the house at all times. In our fist night we had a clear sky and I saw the stars and especially the Milky Way as clearly as I hadn't seen them in ages. So it is also a great place to show your children what that candy bar is named after and you might want to bring that telescope that has been sitting in the attic for so long.

Within the house, all the appliances are fit to host a larger than normal group, the downstairs game room seems to be a good plan B for rainy days, which we didn't have fortunately.

What you should not expect is glamour and style. The house has come of age and while functioning perfectly well, it is of course there for the purpose of being rented to guests and subject to the laws of offer and demand. We did get what we expected for our money, Joe Castello was responsive in all transactions and we can definitely recommend the place for future visits.

In disrepair and dirty.

  • 2 of 5

The windows were filthy inside and out and there were huge cobwebs everywhere. Most of the lights were unplugged and some weren't working when plugged in, one of which was held together with duct tape. The curtains were falling apart and dirty. The "house" had more of a cabin feel and was in desperate need of a proper cleaning and overall repairs and updating. There was no TV in one of the main bedrooms and the one in the living area didn't work until we received special instructions from the owner on day three of our stay. The Pine Mtn. Lake area is quite beautiful and the restaurant good.

The recommendation for renting this property is a big fat NO.

Owner's Response: I do not agree with the guest's negative review, and there was no communication as to the house keeping issues until just now. The house is thoroughly cleaned after each guest and very well maintained as we have many guests stay through the year. The guest contacted me during their stay with a few minor issues that the TV set, Vonage phone, and Arcade Video game were not working. It turns out that the control box for the TV was unplugged and arcade power switch was off. I contacted guests and was quickly resolved without further issue. I have had this property for several years and have received wonderful reviews over the years. I am always doing things to improve the home so that people feel like it is their home away from home. I pride myself on making my home comfortable and enjoyable for my guests and will let my great reviews speak for themselves.
