A wonderful first experience for us with a cottage rental, it was also our first time to Lake Erie area. It was exactly as seen on Vrbo. The lovely reviews and pictures - I'd say everything matched or was even better in person! The waterside Hippo's casual outdoor food stop down the street was a minute walk. Convenient for a quick alternative to cooking and exactly as described. Decent fast food, we liked the fish tacos. Very popular spot. There's a beautiful shady tree looking out at the Lake which provided surprising relief from the heat. That's where most afternoons could be spent. Cooler with the breeze off the Lake. The host was very kind when I had to call and inquire about a few things. One thing that I don't recall reading about the cottage was they have a backup generator. One of the nights big storms had come through, not hitting our area specifically, but taking out the power. For several hours, we have to admit to feeling rather special that all our cooking, A/C and entertainment was able to continue while the rest of the street was in darkness. I think that's an important positive feature. The cottage provided all spices, sugar, cooking utensils. I would say the only items missing could be cooking oil (we used our butter instead) and a BBQ. The owner had one to rent for an additional 80 for set up and propane. We opted to bring our own small camping grill. But I think the extra fee would have been worth it for anyone without another option.Thank you!
