Rustic Charm in an Authentic Cabin

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a quiet country stay near the lake, this is it. The photos don't convey the absolute charm of this authentic restored 1898 cabin. If I could rent the lodge (or even the smaller cabin version next door) for the entire summer, I would, and I've been living in a Colorado mountain cabin for 25+ years, so it's hard for me to be impressed. But I was. The vintage appliances, comfortable furnishings, the welcoming porch, the spacious and clean bathroom (the whole cabin is very clean--and that's tough in rural settings)--it all adds up to a very, very relaxing stay. Towards the end of the week (second week in September), the temperatures dropped a bit, and so we discovered the wood stove works well and heats up the cabin fast. Deer and a flock of turkeys routinely visited the orchard and the pear tree right outside the back door. Now the best part: the views. Listen, you don't get views like these when your cabin is smack on the edge of the lake. The views come from the property located on the rise of the hill--and the views are fabulous any time of day. So if you want to sit by the lake, take your coffee or pack a lunch and walk (maybe) 10 minutes across the street and sit on the bench or the dock of small and friendly Yellow Bay State Park. We launched our kayaks from Yellow Bay and visited the local sights. Originally I was a bit concerned if I could jog on the road safely given the local lake traffic (which wasn't bad at all)--yes, there's plenty of room on the side for joggers/walkers. I was also a little concerned about the proximity of the smaller cabin and the surrounding private homes, but we had LOTS of privacy. I've traveled the world, and in all honesty, I have never been more sorry to leave a rental. This is a gem.

Charming log cabin with privacy and views.

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place! The front porch is wonderful. The interior is decorated with some comfortable antique furniture that is a perfect fit for the style of the cabin. The bathroom was huge and very clean. The views from the front lawn chairs or porch were wonderful. We were only a fifteen minute drive to Bigfork and a short hike to the beach. We would recommend!

Very nice and quiet.

  • 4 of 5

We thought we would be a little closer to the water so was some what disappointed by that. But the house was lovely and in wonderful condition and the location on the hill side was perfect. The town of Big Fork is worth spending the day shopping and having a nice lunch. It is a bit of a drive to Glacier but it is spectacular!

To the owner, thanks so much for sharing wonderful log cabin.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our log cabin. We hope the distance to the lake wasn't a problem for you. We clearly state that this cabin is not right on the water but located about 1/2 mile above the Yellow Bay state park. This is very close and convenient for access but is not the best walk due to the hill and the highway below. Most of our guests drive down the the lake access. Thanks for staying with us.
