About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Full Baths, (Sleeps 14)

This large house has 2,846 square feet with a high cathedral ceiling of more than 20 feet. The five spacious bedrooms and and loft plus three full baths provides comfort for up to 14 people.

To clear up why the house number is 3, but the legal description is 17944. The developer of Sunriver was not aware of future GPS technology, but even if he was, he might have decided to make the house numbers the same as the subdivision parcel numbers because Sunriver was anticipated to be a vacation rental resort, and single and double digit house numbers would be easier for renters to use.

The setting is a half acre heavily treed lot adjoining a 7+ acre greenbelt with a forest covered lava featured ridge which provides privacy and lends to a feeling of being in a large forest. Children and adults enjoy exploring through this area.

The landscaping has been left in a natural state, but the owner performs the necessary cleanup to prevent excessive growth of vegetation which could become a fire hazard.

The house is three stories with the garage, laundry room, three bedrooms and two full baths and the hot tub deck on the first level. The living room, dining room and kitchen forming a great room, as well as an owner's room/ office, two more bedrooms, a full bath and the main deck with barbeque are on the second level. The loft (third level) includes ping pong area and sitting/ reading area. Please call or email for more information.

The house is fully air conditioned, We added a new fully ducted system with the most recent high technology in November 2017.

Sunriver has about 35 miles of ten feet wide paved bicycle/walking trails that course through all the neighborhoods, to the Village Mall, the golf courses, along the Deschutes and Sun Rivers and circle Fort Rock Park which is behind the house. There are several bicycle shops in the village that offer all types of bicycles

Kids and adults will find the lava features and large pine trees on the hill to the rear of the house to be exciting to climb around on. Most families who have stayed here find this green belt and the adjacent Fort Rock Park to be a primary draw for their families as everything is so close to the house, much of it is within 'calling distance'. During the winter kids sled, snowboard and ski for short distances down this hill. The soccer fields, kids playground with lots of well maintained equipment, basketball courts, horseshoes, tennis and pickleball courts are all located just beyond the hill.

The size of the lot, location of the house snuggled among the ponderosa and lodgepole pines 125 feet back from Shamrock Lane, and the forested hill to the rear provide a significant amount of privacy. Most homes in Sunriver are on quarter acre or smaller lots and have other homes quite close on three sides and the road directly in front.

Keywords: Large three level house on Fort Rock Park. Great Room Concept with Loft Above with Reading/Nesting Area and Ping Pong Table, Free WiFi, Large Deck, Hot Tub, Adjacent Green Belt with large lava features and Fort Rock Park for exploring and recreation with Tennis and Pickleball Courts, Bike Trails, Sports Fields, Large Playground, Golf Course Across Street, 35+ miles paved bicycle trails, Mt. Bachelor Ski Area, Deschutes River, Public access to nearby swimming pools, Large number of mountain biking and hiking trails outside of Sunriver.

About John Kloster

Nancy and I, John, have five kids, and eleven grandchildren. Our kids grew up with this house and hope to have their kids develop cherished memories of their own here. We are retired and come to Sunriver whenever possible to enjoy a very contrasting environment from the city in which our permanent residence is located.

John Kloster purchased this house in 1989

Why John Kloster chose Sunriver

We chose to purchase a property in Sunriver because it was a contrast to city living in which we managed our professions and raised our family. Our extended family and many of our friends' families have also enjoyed all the activities offered in and around Sunriver. We have always been oriented toward snow sports in the winter and hiking, climbing, fishing, boating, golf, tennis and pickleball in the summer.

Prior to our purchase we rented homes in Sunriver, both during the winter and summer, and found that we wanted to spend as much time as we could here. We had bicycled through all the neighborhoods and found that this house on a large lot on Shamrock Lane which also backed up to Fort Rock Park and a large green belt (a hill covered with pine trees featuring a ridge of lava formations) offered privacy as well as opportunities for the family to use all the park facilities and still be within a short distance for monitoring many of the activities from the comfort of our home.

What makes this house unique

What I said in the previous section on why we purchased the property is very applicable to why we feel our home offers a very unique vacation experience. The most outstanding feature of the house itself for most families is the great room layout encompassing the living room, dining room and kitchen. In fact the loft above the kitchen and dining room look out over the living room, and the dormitory bedroom which is often the center for kid activities is observable from the kitchen and the landing at the top of the stairs.

Best house for large group, we will be back

  • 5 of 5

One of the great things about this house is that Fort Rock Park is very close, just over a small hill. The park has tennis courts, a full size basketball court, pickelball courts, a horseshoe pit, baseball and soccer fields, kids playground, tetherball. Whatever we wanted to do was always available. The teenagers in our group spend a lot of time here and at the SHARC. The adults mostly went over after dinner for a whiffleball or bocce ball game.

The house is very private. It is on a dead-end street with very little traffic. The lot is quite large and has enough trees to screen out the neighbors on both sides.

Even though the daytime temperature was in the 90's the house was comfortable, especially the downstairs bedrooms. The dry climate cools off quickly so we would open windows at night and close them in the morning. There was always shade somewhere on the deck even during the hottest parts of the day. Also, there was always a sunny area of the deck for anyone wanting that.

There was plenty of room for parking. For a couple days we had five vehicles and it was not a problem. There is a space in the garage big enough for the largest SUV.

The size of the house was good. The loft has a ping pong table, two couches, and a small table with chairs. The teenagers would spend time here when they were not at the park, the SHARC, or washing dishes. The kitchen and dining area were fine and there are enough tables and chairs on the deck for everyone to eat al fresco.

The house is good for groups with babies. There is a Pack N Play in one of the bedrooms and outlet covers everywhere. We brought a baby gate for the stairs and it was easy to baby-proof the main floor kitchen and living room.

Like everywhere we stay there were some maintenance items the owner will be looking into. There was nothing that would keep us from returning the next time we visit Sunriver.

My golf group of 10-11 adults has stayed here two consecutive years and been very pleased. The house was ready for us on both occasions, spotlessly clean, fully equipped and logically organized. The owner is easy to work with, is not a nervous Nelly, and takes pride in this, his family’s longtime vacation home. I recommend this home without any qualms. If you want a palace, a castle or exotic accommodations, look elsewhere. But if you want a comfortable, spacious All American vacation home, this is it.

Great place to stay with large families

  • 4 of 5

We had 4 families stay here with 7 kids and it accommodated us comfortably. The location is great. Very close to the park and a short bike ride to sharc. The climbing rocks in the back were perfect for the kids while the adults could sit on the large deck and play games while still being able to keep a close watch on the kids. John, the owner, was very easy to get in touch with and gave us many tips on staying at his vacation home. Would definitely stay here in the future.

Lots of space - Great location

  • 3 of 5

The house is spacious and handled our group of eleven. Lots of kitchen cooking utensils.

Great location. However, the owner could do some TLC. The house needs screens on the windows so that you can ventilate better, no AC. No kitchen towels, no hairdryers, no shampoo,

minimum soap and Toilet tissue for 11 people. The carpet on the stairs and living room should be replaced. When we arrived the carpet had been cleaned but it took 2 days for the damp smell of an old dirty carpet to dissipate. It's an ok property but expensive for what it is. The loft was great for the teenagers. Location is five stars.

Spring break fun

  • 5 of 5

We have a large family and we get together every spring, this house has something for everyone. Our kids all loved how close we were to the park. I like to give honest review so guests know what to expect, I can't think of anything negative to say. Everything was clean and we were all very comfortable. The homeowner was very easy to get in touch with when I had questions. Thank you for a great time.

Owner provides SHARC (Sunriver Homeowner Acauatic and Recreation Center) passes to the pools, tennis and pickleball courts, marina boat launch as well the new Sunriver Homeowner's Aquatic and Recreation Center which offers indoor and outdoor swimming pools, water slides, simulated river for floating, winter sledding hill and many more activities. Google SHARC to get a complete rundown on facilities and activities.

Our property is unique in the Sunriver market as the lot is quite large and abuts the only public park in Sunriver, Fort Rock Park, and 200 feet from the main tennis courts. The tree covered ridge behind the house provides a very private environment for family or entertaining. The large second floor (main floor) deck brings you up into the trees providing a good observation area for wildlife that wander through the trees every day when dry. There are a number of large lava features along the top of this ridge which interest kids, but adults enjoy exploring when their kids come back delighted with the discovery. My kids who grew up playing there winter and summer are talking about their young kids becoming old enough to enjoy many of the same activities that captured their parents' interest.

The play fields, courts or all kinds, the bicycle path and the youngster oriented playground are just beyond the ridge directly behind the house.
