I have stayed at this house many times and each year the owner has performed some major upgrades. The house was very clean, great location making it easy access to Kayaking, restaurants and a short drive down to Key West.
Great views and Pool. From the dock get some interesting Fish, this year we saw some nurse sharks. Good place to watch the sunset with a glass of wine.
I hesitated, staying here after seeing a previous review, however after our stay we booked it again for next year. There was no carpet in the house the bedrooms have all been recently tiled. The house was very clean and fully stocked with everything we needed. The pool the dock the sunsets all great. My husband and i spent many nights with a glass of wine watching the sun set. Wish they had kayaks, but we did rent some.
The view is excellent and the pool is nice, but that's about it. The house was not clean; in fact, if you were in the house barefoot, by the end of the day, the bottom of your feet were BLACK. There were black trails on the carpet going into each bedroom, so don't know the last time carpets were cleaned. We would have liked to vacuum, but the vacuum sweeper was broke. They had Swiffers, but those just don't the job when the floors are this dirty and you can't use them on carpet! The kitchen was equipped just OK but it didn't even have spatulas (doesn't everyone use spatulas when they cook?) and the microwave was the cheapest model you could buy. The furniture was what you furnish when a house is primarily used for a rental, mismatched and smelly. I had to cover the one couch with a sheet because when we sat on it, we sneezed! The vinyl on the chairs at the breakfast table was flaking off and was another reason we needed a vacuum sweeper. When we arrived, one of the screens on the porch was torn and flapping in the wind. Then we had a storm and it tore even more and was hanging from the frame. We called and insisted it be repaired and they did, but why wasn't it fixed before we arrived? The TV in the front guest room didn't work, we called the rental company, but the TV never got fixed and they never checked back to see if it did get fixed. We have rented homes in the Keys for several years. This is the most expensive one we've rented and the least worth it. We hated having to pay the cleaning fee, because it definitely isn't used for cleaning! To make this place worth the price, it needs a good cleaning, every amenity needs to work, and it basically needs to be updated to meet the price. Or just reduce the price. The owner has been renting this since 2003 according to HomeAway, but this is the first review this house has gotten...now I know why. We have rented a home for the same price next year that has many reviews with all 5-star ratings. We've learned to look for those since we've decided to rent more expensive homes on the water.
