  • The best location!

"This is our 4th or 5th time staying at Shipyard condos and the 1st time at this unit. The location is perfect; a couple of blocks from the center of Duval and 1/4 mile from the best beach on the island,Fort Zach. You don't need a car when staying in Old Town and this spot is quiet but still close to everything. Don't want the sunset crowds of Mallory Square? Just grab one of the beach chairs and head out your back door over to what used to be part of the naval property and enjoy. We have stayed in a Shipyard unit that was strictly a rental income and they did not provide beach chairs, coolers, beach towels, guest book, etc. and staying in an owner occupied unit like Donna's is so much more convenient and personal. The unit is filled w/local artwork and personal, homey touches. If you don't want to eat out every nite, the kitchen is well stocked w/utensils,plates,etc. and there is a grill on the deck along w/spices in the cabinet, foil and ziploc bags. We bungeed our tandem bike rental like a pack mule and brought charcoal, cooler, lunch, chairs to the beach(along w/our travel hammock!) and settled in for a few hours of paradise. Hammock swinging in the shade, the beautiful green blue waters, and the smell of local yellowtail on the grill. The beach has chair rentals and a concession stand if you want to keep it simple. There is a large pool on site but w/the proximity to the beach, we rarely have used it but it's there to enjoy.Check out the guest book for suggestions in the area.We would highly recommend getting out on the water for a snorkel/dolphin watch/kayak excursion and also check out the Hemingway House, the Butterfly Conservatory, Mel Fisher museum, a walk thru KW cemetery and live music and happy hour at one of the bars. And Donna sent us a walking map and other info. Enjoy this little bit of paradise! Thanks! Alison and Mary"

  • Amazing Vacation!

"Ten of us, 5 couples, booked this house for our vacation, for a week, and had a Fantastic time! None of us wanted to leave! The house is even more beautiful in person, than it is in the pictures! There was plenty of space, and privacy. We never felt as though we were invading each other's space. We had a minor issue with the A/C, which was taken care of immediately. We had plenty of parking to accommodate all of our vehicles. The kitchen and bar area were perfect gathering places, and there was also plenty of room for us all to enjoy an Awesome meal together as well.I am saving the BEST for last...The Pool! WoW! we spent much of our time in the pool and hot tub, it was a tropical oasis! We had a relaxing, yet fun time! We are definitely looking forward to staying here again!"

  • Beautiful Resort

"We stayed at this lovely resort for a week in January. What a wonderful time we had. It was a great place for our first retirement vacation. The condo was clean and very well kept. Everything we needed for our "home away from home". We especially enjoyed eating breakfast on our own porch, relaxing at the pool bar in the afternoons and gazing at the enormous and amazing banyan trees. The staff was very helpful recommending places of interest. The Banyan is in an ideal location being within walking distance of most restaurants and shops. We look forward to returning in the future."

  • Improving on Perfection

"For many people, it just doesn’t get better than a holiday in the Florida Keys. We’ve been going, on & off, for the last twenty years, and each time we’ve refined our choice of accommodation. This year we really hit the jackpot with our stay at Villa Southern Comforts in Saddlebunch Key. First of all, the location is outstanding – just 15 miles from all the attractions in Key West, yet set on a quiet road with local amenities (Baby’s Coffee is superb!) Without a doubt, the best feature of the location is that the villa is on the sunset side of the Key. There’s no need to trek down to Mallory Square – just enjoy the most amazing sunsets from the privacy your own back yard – the drinks are cheaper too! Secondly, an excellent local Realtor professionally manages the property. Payment was easy and secure, (often a problem from the UK) there was a point of contact during our stay and nothing was too much trouble. Finally the villa itself: Previous reviewers who have focused on the wear & tear that rental properties acquire over time have, I believe, missed the point. This property’s outstanding feature is the pool. It is completely secluded and as private as you are ever likely to get in the Keys. Everything else was in working order, but even if it hadn’t been – with a pool that good it would have been churlish to complain. Easy access and a sense of security combine to give a real feel-good quality to the property that turns a good holiday into a great one. In short – we loved it, and are already planning our return trip."
