Magnificent 5 Bedroom House Fronting Onto Shoreline with Wifi

Space 3,150 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 6 Baths, (Sleeps 11-13 1-13)

Sycamore House is situated in the picturesque village of Ballyvaughan in the heart of the Burren National Park, a karst limestone region, one of the largest in Europe where you will find arctic, Mediterranean and alpine plants side by side. From the front of the house you can see the rolling hills of the Burren, its limestone pavements with crisscrossing cracks known as 'grikes' leaving isolated rocks called 'glints'. The rear of the house is mostly glazed to take in the views of Ballyvaughan harbour and across Galway Bay and the mountains of Connemara.

With its large gently sloping lawn fronting onto the shoreline, a pathway from the house along by an old stone wall leads to flag stone steps onto the sea shore. There is also a secluded seating area with polished limestone table at the end of this pathway where one can relax and watch the ever changing seascape as the tides go in and out. The house has been designed to optimize the views. From the moment you enter the house you have views of Galway Bay. The sunken open plan kitchen-dining area is the heart of the house and boasts a glass wall 24'long by 12' high. The house is centrally heated throughout and for added comfort there is a solid fuel stove in this area which gives a warm cozy feeling when temperatures outside start to drop. Total floor space in the house is 3200 sq ft so space is generous in every room. All five bedrooms are ensuite and we pride ourselves on the quality of our beds and linen. Between them there are four queen sized beds and three single beds and the master bedroom which stands alone on the upper level has an extra sofa bed which is mostly used for relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book while also gazing out to sea.

Ballyvaughan village regarded as the jewel in the crown of the Burren region has a choice of good restaurants, craft shops and local shops. It is the ideal base to explore the rich heritage of the Burren and surrounding areas. The famous Burren Way (26 miles of green road) starts in Ballyvaughan, goes to Fanore, Doolin and ends in Liscannor taking in the Cliffs of Moher.

For the golfers, the famous links course at Lahinch is only a thirty minute drive from the house and further down the Clare coast is the Greg Norman designed Doonbeg course. There is also a choice of less well known courses such as Gort and Ennis.

Close to the house the unspoiled beaches of Bishops Quarter and Fanore invite you to swim ,kayak and surf. The sheltered Ballyvaughan Bay is suitable for all kinds of water activities. Try a swim in the sea or learn to dive with the Burren Adventure Dive Centre.

Finally when it is time to relax the living room beckons to put your feet up, with its plush leather sofas and soft furnishings and to add to the atmosphere on those cooler nights why not start a fire in the large open fireplace made from polished Burren stone. As an added treat firewood is provided free of charge.

About The Owner

I was raised on a dairy farm that was unique in that we processed and packaged the milk ourselves and distributed it throughout much of County Clare. We sold that side of the business in 1998 but we still live on the farm where we now raise beef cattle. When I married my wife Mary, we built a new home on the farm and since then we totally renovated the old farm house I grew up in and started doing self catering. We now have three beautiful homes in different locations for self catering and enjoy meeting new faces all the time. We have made a lot of new friends over the years ,some of them return on a regular basis. When the opportunity arises we enjoy having a good chat over a glass of wine or a pint of Guinness with our guests.

Seamus & Mary Marlborough

The Owner purchased this house in 2003

Why The Owner chose Ballyvaughan

When the site that this house sits on which is over one and a half acres in area came on the market in 2002, we saw an opportunity to change our lifestyle. Even though we were no longer processing milk, we were still producing it and selling it to a large processor. At this stage we needed a change and decided if we accuire the site and secure planning to build on it, we would stop milk production and concentrate on self catering. To get a site with access onto the shoreline is very unique in Ireland. We paid dearly for it , but after employing a good architect , we ended up with an excellent end product specifically designed for self catering

What makes this house unique

The best thing about this house is its location. From the moment you enter the front door , you have views of the ocean and when you stand at the front door and look out you have views of the Burren Hills. Another benefit is that it is less than a five minute walk into the picturesque village of Ballyvaughan.

The house itself is a unique desigh with a great sense of space and comfort.

This house is stunning!!

  • 5 of 5

Seamus and Mary are the kind of couple you won't find anywhere else. They are so lovely and sweet. They made this trip so enjoyable. And the house was just beautiful. It accommodated all 12 of us perfectly! Having a bathroom in each room was extremely convenient! The pictures didn't do it justice, the views from the house and the house itself are just breathtaking, you have to see for yourself! Please if you are viewing this house as a potential rental home, don't even look anywhere else, this is the perfect home! There is also a five minute walk into the cutest town ever where you can find cafes, restaurants, and shops! It's perfect for anyone loooking to spend time in Ireland. Again, Seamus and Mary were very hospitable and I would definitely come back if I ever go to Ireland again. Thank you Seamus and Mary for our lovely stay!!

What a house!

  • 5 of 5

We booked Sycamore House for a weekend get together of 15 , including 2 children and could not have been happier with the house. The photos do not do it justice. Spacious, clean, beautifully designed and very well equipped it comfortably held our big group and the views from the kitchen/ dining room were unreal. We loved getting a roaring fire going at the end of the day and having the sea on your doorstep was a great bonus. Seamus was incredibly kind and helpful throughout and very quick to respond to our many queries leading up to the stay. Would highly recommend!

We have just returned from spending two weeks in the breathtaking Burren area of northwest County Clare in Ireland with its ancient landscape teeming with life. Using a rental car, a dozen not-to-be-missed sights including a 5,000 year old dolmen tomb, an underground cave, ancient monastic ruins, and the majestic Cliffs of Moher, were within east reach. There was traditional music in the village of Doolin, golf in Lahinch, restaurants and shops in Galway and (very close to where we stayed) a shop with special cheeses produced locally – also another place with serious chocolate (available for purchase, of course) with the opportunity to see every step of the chocolate-making process. Most amazing of all was the beautiful rental home where we stayed. We rented a house in Ballyvaughan ( where, from a back door, the property extended right down to the water of the Atlantic Ocean. The place was very clean and magnificently appointed throughout. There were five bedrooms en suite. Mirabile dictu, the weekly tab for this place (in May) was perhaps on par with what it would cost for one couple to have a room in any 3 or 4 star hotel.

The owners could not have been more helpful. They helped by storing our own luggage at their home a day or two before we were due to move in (and transporting it to Sycamore House before our arrival to the house) so that we would have additional room in our rental car for three friends arriving into Dublin airport. After spending two weeks, we liked the place so much that we inquired with the owner if it might be possible for us to extend our stay for another half a week. Already booked from the day when our two weeks were up, the owner solved this problem for us by letting us know that (probably because of a cancellation) it would be possible for us to stay at another of his houses (Lisheen) approximately10/15 minutes away in the direction of Kinvara. Again here the view was magnifique. The house was situated just up from the Atlantic Ocean, a block from Linnane's, award-winning restaurant. Less than a five minute walk took us to "Flaggy Shore," and the swans which have been immortalized in the Seamus Heaney poem. Thanks to Seamus and Mary, this VRBO near Ballyvaughan enabled ourselves (and relatives who spent the 2nd week with us at Sycamore House) to cancel hotel reservations and, of course, to save some euros. We are happy to recommend wholeheartedly both houses

wonderful stay at Sycamore House

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated a milestone birthday in Ballyvaughan with family and friends from Australia and the UK. Sycamore House was perfect for our large group and comfortably accommodated our group of 12. The booking process was smooth, the owners Seamus and Mary met us on arrival and provided all the information required. The house is roomy, beds are comfortable, showers are lovely and warm and the ambience is perfect. Its a short stroll to the local village. We hadca great week and hope to be back again soon.

Such a treat!

  • 5 of 5

We were at the house with my two kids (6 and 7, ) mother, sister and my wife and I. More then enough room for everyone and such a great base to explore the area. Pictures don't do the place justice as every room, bathroom, everything is super nice. The two fireplaces keep the place warm and the views just can't be beat.

Take a walk down to the shore in the morning with a cup of coffee and you'll know you made the right choice.

There are a few pubs in town that were fun to visit, but it doesn't feel as transient as some of the bigger villages in the area. We made it to the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, St. John's Castle and into Galway and this house was great base. I'd highly recommend staying here, you won't be sorry.

First of all, Seamus was wonderful in communicating timely to any inquiry. The house is perfect for a large group, nice bedrooms and private bathrooms. Everything is well kept, up to date and very clean. The location is perfect for a get away, you can walk into town (3 great pubs, good food), quiet surroundings and incredible view. I look forward to visiting again.
