Come and enjoy one of Virginia’s and North Carolina’s best kept secrets! Lake Gaston is a clear and beautiful lake located in the Piedmont of southern Virginia and northern North Carolina. It is the last major impoundment on the Roanoke River, and offers excellent water quality and water level fluctuations that are less than one foot. It is 35 miles long and has over 350 miles of shoreline. Lake Gaston is within a three hour drive of Washington DC, an hour and a half to two hours from Raleigh North Carolina and Virginia Beach Virginia.
A Food Lion grocery, an Ace Hardware, a Subway, and an indoor/outdoor flea market (Friday through Sunday) are all located less than 15 minutes from the house. Thursday night, it’s bingo at the local fire hall. Restaurants are scattered around the lake and they range from diner style to more upscale. The closest large town is Roanoke Rapids, and is a 20 minute drive from the house. A large mall with a Belk Store, Super Wal-Mart, movie theater, and numerous eateries are located there.
You can find paradise at our lake house! It is two levels and has everything you will need to make your stay at Lake Gaston an enjoyable one. We have tv, video and DVD players (movies provided), board games, books and puzzles...everything that will provide inside entertainment for family evenings or during inclement weather.
Outside is where the real fun is! Our backyard leads right to the water and our boat dock, which is the center of lake life. The water off the dock is about 6 feet deep which is great for older kids and adults. Younger kids do well with the shallow water by the shore. Swimming, fishing, sunbathing (don’t forget the sunscreen), and relaxing all happen right there. It’s a great place to view the beautiful evening sky and sunsets. Skiing and tubing can be started right in front of the dock.
Besides the water sports, fishing is excellent at Lake Gaston! Available species include striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie, perch, sunfish, and our favorite dinner fish, channel catfish. Fishing from the dock is a favorite pastime for both young and old alike. Early mornings and evenings are usually better, but when is fishing not good?
Lastly, one of the best pastimes at the lake is RELAXING! Whether it be enjoying the view, reading a book, napping in the sun, soaking in the hot tub, roasting marshmallows over the fire pit at night, or mountain biking on the nearby trails. There is something about the lake that lets you leave everyday stress behind for awhile. This is what we most enjoy about our lake house. One day of vacation and you will feel as if you've been there a week already! We invite you to come and see for yourselves.

This is a picture of me having fun in Vail a few years ago. My kids are mostly grown now, my youngest is 29 and we aren't using the house much, so we thought we would share the fun!!!
Lakeside Rentals purchased this house in 2005
My family enjoyed staying here. Beautiful home. Everything we expected. Great for families with children/teenagers/pets.. One of the highlights was the shallow water right before the dock where the kids and dogs played!
We had a great family vacation. Home is beautiful and view of lake is tranquil. We all loved both jacuzzi tubs, split level bedroom plans and hot tub I think they are an added rental benefit. We were able to bring our fur baby with us and she loved being with us; as much as we loved having her. Fishing was good right off the dock. Wish there was little more to do in the area, but if you are here just to relax and take in the view, perfect place. Boat renal is a must to get in all the lake has to offer.
My family and I really enjoyed this home. It had everything we needed and more with plenty of space. Make sure you read the book when you get there and check the closet for all sorts of goodies for you to use! The house was clean, well maintained with plenty of seating space. We loved BOTH outside decks! That was our go to place for morning coffee! The cove is perfect for not wanting to be on main lake traffic and just around the corner from friends of ours. Would definitely stay again!
Really nice place. Stayed with the wife and MIL. Really pretty. Makes the best usage out of every square foot in the house. I guess there were some hooligans in the house the week before that caused a little carpet damage, but it was so minor and I'll bet its been cleaned by now.
Fishing was great. Rented a pontoon a couple days, really cool with the exception of the one day it really rained on us. Oh well, we were on vacation and who cared. This is the first time I've to Gaston and I must say I really have taken a liking. I'm thinking of moving from N Virginia to NC sometime in the next couple years and I think lake Gaston just might be my retirement location.
The size of this home was perfect. I would like a place this size. I also like the NE quad of Gaston as it's close to Food Lion, shopping and the few restaurants in the area.
Plan on staying at Gaston again sometime in the near future. Definitely would recommend this place, very clean and charming.
Our family (5 adults, including 2 seniors) enjoyed this beautiful house during an off season vacation. Spotlessly clean. Well-maintained - all in working order. New construction, with a lot of high end features. Unobstructed view of lake cove right out the back door, from 2 decks. Very helpful owner who communicated promptly. Reasonable price (it was off season). Very well furnished and equipped. It's in the country, not too close to any retail, etc, somewhat hard to find especially at night. Some of us had no cell reception, others did. There is no internet or wi-fi, so prepare to kick back. Water sports are the big draw. Since we were here in winter, we didn't expect to be able to use boats, swim, jetski, etc. Dog-friendly--- our little dog was happy. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, cooked, soaked in the hot tub, watched movies, visited some of the local restaurants, shopped at a antique mall, walked by the lake, discovered a little 19th century family graveyard across the road, toured a battlefield national park, and beat each other at Monopoly. Stairs to second floor are steep - keep in mind if this is a problem for anyone.
Our stay at the lake house was nothing short of relaxing- a much needed family vacation for a big family with two dogs. The property was as described and the pictures were accurate. The porch was beautiful, very comfortable and offered nice views of the beautiful lake. We rented kayaks for the week so we were able to enojoy the lake to the fullest. Megan was a pleasure to deal with and attentive to any concerns. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
