Forget your alarm clock; awaken to the sounds of conga/howler monkeys and tropical birds in this Caribbean style home just 300 meters from Cocles Beach for surfing, swimming and sun bathing.
Made of Costa Rican hardwoods and ceramic tiles, this nearly 2000 square feet, 2 BR/2&1/2 Baths home has an open floor plan downstairs, where the hummingbirds like to visit, and a wrap around balcony upstairs with 2 spacious bedrooms. The home is surrounded by forests and beautiful fruit trees affording a lot of privacy (with luck you might see toucans eating the papaya); and yet you will not be isolated as there are neighbors close by. The next door neighbor has a guide and taxi service. And another neighbor, Johanna, (just a 2 minute walk away) has a very nice family run restaurant (called a soda in Costa Rica). You must try her Caribbean style corvina (sea bass). A car is not necessary as you will be only minutes walking or biking for anything you may want to see: beautiful beaches, jaguar refuge, horseback riding, restaurants, night life, grocery stores, internet cafe, etc. As an option, 4 banana bikes are at the home available for your use for an extra fee of $4 day/bike, with 2 boogie/body boards included for playing in the ocean. The banana bikes are a popular way to see the sights (if you need more, others are available in town for $4-6/day/bike).
The home is located in Miss Winnie Town, a small community within the city of Cocles, less than 2 miles south of Puerto Viejo. The neighborhood is named in honor of Winnie who is the mother of the property manager, Oscar. They will take good care of you during your holiday. In the neighborhood there are vacation and permanent Tico homes(Tico is a friendly nickname for a Costa Rican). Here you will enjoy a lot of privacy and at the same time you will have friends and neighbors close to you. Thanks for your interest in this wonderful home we call Casa del Caribe in Costa Rica's most beautiful and most unspoiled tropical paradise!

About Shelly St.Hilaire
Originally from California, and later from New Jersey, I began visiting Costa Rica in 2005. I traveled most of the country and fell in love with the Southern Caribbean. Over time, my visits became more frequent and lasted longer until I decided to make my move to Costa Rica. After some time, I met my Tico husband and our son was born in Costa Rica. Now, we share time between countries, raising our son. We have seen most of this spectacular and friendly little country. Without a doubt the Caribbean coast is the most beautiful, most natural, and most unspoiled part of Costa Rica. Open minds, amazing fusion of foods, magnificent beaches, tropical forests, monkeys, birds and other wildlife are but a few of the wonders this area has to offer. Casa del Caribe is a great place to stay, where you can relax in open-air living surrounded by breathtaking nature.

The house is perfect for a family vacation .
This house is perfect if you want to wake up surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest! It was so great for our grandkids to see sloths right out their window and hear howler monkeys . It is within walking and biking distance to stores and restaurants, near the Jaguar rescue center ( a great tour) Fred next door is the caretaker and he will help with anything you need , and is a great host . We were6 people of 3 generations and had wonderful time. The house is big enough that you can spread out, two levels for nice bird and animal watching . Would love to spend another vacation here!
well located home in the middle of the jungle
Beautiful home in Cocles, close to everything you may need on a vacation. Fred the administrator of the house is very nice and will help you with recommendations if needed while in town.
First the bad, then the good. The worst part about this place was the parking. You have to drive down a narrow long path which makes backing out very difficult. The other bad thing about the place was the bugs. They are everywhere, welcome to Costa Rica! The good things...there was plenty of room for our family of 6. Its a couple of blocks from the beach. We loved the 2 hammocks. We saw 3 sloths in a tree just one block away. Fred, the caretaker was very helpful and arranged for us to go snorkeling. Although i wouldn't recommend the snorkeling it was the worst i have ever done. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
We are glad that overall you enjoyed your stay. Yes, Fred, our property manager is a true gem! Our guests really seem to appreciate him and his tour company.
The lane that you mentioned is 30 meters long (apx 100 feet) and 2 meters wide (apx. 7 feet) at it's narrowest point, ending directly in front of the house where there is a large parking space. A car is not necessary, however for guests who do bring a car, they are welcome to park in front of the house, or, if it is more comfortable, on the private street the entrance to the house. Yes, Costa Rica has bugs, and monkies, and sloths as well as beautiful birds and other wild life. We keep our grounds well maintained and we take measures to keep pest out while remaining friendly to non pest creatures... Like esperanzas (the name means Hope and they look like a giant grass hoppers) as well as several types of frogs, hummingbirds and butterflies. Agian, we are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again at Casa Del Caribe!
Beautiful spot for a family vacation
We've booked Casa Del Caribe twice now for our family vacations and love it! Close to great beaches, restaurants and shops, we are able to bike or bus everywhere. The property manager Fred is really helpful and always available if you have questions about the house or area.
The house is clean, comfortable and full of beautiful local artwork. We shall be back!
Thank you for taking the time to review Cas Del Caribe. We look forward to having you back in the future!
Amazing, Authentic, Experience
My friends and I recently stayed at Shelly's Casa del Caribe for 7 nights. We had six people. The house is spacious, comfortable, fun, and convenient. The property is alive with lush plant life and dressed in beautiful art. The beach (playa cocles) is about a 5-10 minute walk from the house. And puerto viejo is just under 2 kilometers.
Shelly was in town getting the house ready for our group, so when we arrived with easy directions, we got to meet her. She went over everything about the house and area so we all were confident about things and we really appreciated that. Then Shelly introduced us to her neighbor Fred and he was Awesome! After we met Fred he took care of us the whole time. Fred took us to waterfalls and nature reserves. He gave us rides into town when we didn't want to ride our bikes. He was available to take care of us the whole time. He speaks english and knows everyone and is knowledgeable about the whole area. Fred was cool, peaceful, and very helpful. The trip was on a whole other level with him there.
The house is special and so much fun! When we return as a group again we will try to stay at Casa del Caribe. I give the rating of this experience a 10 out of 10. Thank you Shelly and Fred! - pura vida!
This was our first ever tropical family experience and it was one that we really enjoyed. The house is charming and close enough to conveniences that you can walk or cycle. The property manager, Fred, was a big help with suggestions for activities, took us on tours, and generous with his knowledge of the area. We can't help but love Costa Rica.
