Overall, very much enjoyed our stay 10/3-10/6. Property was clean and decorated nicely. Host was VERY available via text or email/message but overall had little we needed during our stay. The view from the deck was a primary reason for renting and it did not disappoint! We enjoyed relaxing outside listening to nature each morning and evening. Good water pressure with plenty of hot water and a nice shower head. Pleasantly surprised to find very few bugs outside given the remote locale! Appeared to be lots of in house entertainment with board games and DVDs available.
It boils down to-would I stay again if ever in the area? Yes, depending on my needs.
That said, as other reviews mention, a few things to be aware of....
No street lights outside=very dark! Yay!!! But... bring a flashlight or 2.
Believe the master bed to be a full size, not queen. Both full beds have footboards-so may be a challenge for the taller population.
It's not listed, and I truly missed it, I just assumed, but no microwave is available. Factor this in for food prep and food reheating.
The train, yes the host pointedly advised us an amtrak comes by sporadically and gave us the option of canceling. I scoped out the amtrak schedule for that line and figured no problem.... but it's freight trains too. Various times....3am, 4am, 5am on thru 9am a few a day on average during our stay. They do sound the horn at a local crossing but the wheels screeching is what continues for a few minutes. As adults
This property overlooks beautiful Lake Champlain but to get to the Lake requires going down three sets of steep steps which are not well maintained (you may get splinters from the railings), and when you get to the bottom of the stairs, there is about 5' of rocks to climb over to get to the Lake. We do not recommend this for any but the most agile.
The home itself is basic; the kitchen has no microwave and is lacking basic cooking items. However everything that is there works. The washing machine works, but the dryer is missing the part that turns on the Power so getting it started with a pencil is a challenge.
Jeff, the owner, is a nice fellow but that does not make up for the challenges of living in this rental property.
We rented this property for the sole purpose of kayaking.
When we discovered that we couldn't climb over the rocks to get to the Lake, we requested an early termination and a refund, but Jeff refused. Despite that, we could not stay at this place, and had to leave without positive feelings about the listing, the property, and the host.
Pros: Really nice well-kept place with everything you need, great deck overlooking the lake, lots to do in the area. Con: Freight train noise at night. The train tracks are located right behind the property. During our stay (9/15/24 – 9/22/24), one or more freight trains (not Amtrak) came by every night in the wee hours (on the two nights that I checked, 4:30 AM and 3:30 AM). If you’ve ever stood close to a train track when a large train goes by, you know how loud it is. The weather was warm so we didn’t close the two bedroom windows though I doubt it would have helped much. So, depending on your sleep requirements/rhythms, you may want to take this into account. I tried to get more information about these trains from the owner since it would affect my decision to return but he didn’t have any other than it seemed “irregular”.

Seul point négatif est le train a proximité. Bel endroit tranquille, avec une superbe vue sur le lac!
This home was just what we needed! Spotless clean, well appointed, the host was wonderful. The view of the lake is breathtaking night and day. Easy to get to, and the driveway was not an issue for us at all. Highly recommend this home!
