'Rosella' is a cottage built on the shores of the beautiful and private Mountain Island Lake. Much of this lake is parklands, wildlife, sanctuaries and properties restricted from development. This home was built in 1952 by Ben Douglas, long time Charlotte Mayor and name sake of the Charlotte Douglas Airport. It was common at that time for Charlottes wealthier residents to have little lake cabins for vacation
homes. This cabin has provided decades of lakefront fun and fishing. Inside and out the place looks very much like it did in 1952. Years ago the house was divided into two separate apartments. In 2011 we converted the upstairs into a vacation rental. In March 2014 we completely updated the decor. We provide high speed wireless, flat screen TV's, Wii and a state of the art karaoke machine with thousands of songs, but you can get most of that at a Holiday Inn. The unique experience you get with a stay here is that little step back in time. It starts when you pull in to the skinny gravel drive and end up at a plain but well kept mid-century home. There are paneled walls unit a/c and no dishwasher. No subdivision, no pool, no tennis courts. There are only two other neighbors. There is a 1 bed room unit below that is also available for rent(.VRBO 453657) Unless you plan on renting both units you should be planning a quiet stay. Prior guests that have most enjoyed Rosella spend much of their time on the screened porch overlooking the lake. Rosella was built right on the lake's shoreline. You are so close to the boats going by you can see right inside them. At night when they cruise by you could truly join in their conversation. The place is very popular and in our few short years leasing it we have had hundreds of guests. In that time we have learned that Rosella is not for everyone. We have done our best to accurately describe the "experience." If that slow paced step back in time is not what you are looking for you may not enjoy Rosella, if on the other hand, you would like to relive the way things used to be or experience it for the first time we don't think you will be disappointed. We look forward to your arrival. In 2014, we just purchased a new Harris Floteboat that will be docked at the home and available for rent. Rental fee is $150/day and includes gas and insurance. This rate is approximately 1/2 the going rate in the area. Boat rental is scheduled separately from the vacation rental. It is strongly advised that you reserve it prior to your stay. A security deposit and application is required in advance.

About Bob Rudolph
We are Bob and Kim and we are lake enthusiast. We own homes on several of the lakes in the area. We presently live on a lake close by and we love this place so much we spend many weekends here.
Bob Rudolph purchased this House in 1990
Why Bob Rudolph chose Harwood Lane
We lived here at one time and knew we could never part with it. 'Rosella' is not an investment for us. She is part of the family. We know that if you stay here and get to know Mountain Island Lake you will be 'hooked' too. If you need to be in or around the city for any reason there is no other lake front property available closer or more convenient. The airport is truly just 10 minutes away. You would never guess that you were so close to everything when you are at Rosella. The county has bought all but three house to build a future 100+ acre lake front park. Rosella is surrounded by the park and lake. There is a small vacation home to the left that you can see. Other than that it is trees, lake and sky!
What makes this House unique
Many of our guests come to experience the National Whitewater Center. If you come, we strongly suggest you visit there. It's a man made river rapids that you can kayak or do a guided raft run. This is the only man made Olympic qualifying rapids in the country. There is vertical rock climbing, zip lining and a lot more outdoor adventures. If you don't feel quite that adventurous there is a riverside restaurant where you can get a great meal and a glass of wine while you watch crazy people careen down a wall of water and rocks. There are also summer concerts and island sunset parties. It costs just $5 to park and nothing to visit the center. You can drive from Rosella, park your car, and walk to the river's edge in less than 10 minutes.

Relaxing place by the lake, nice for a weekend getaway.
Pleasant stay in this little lake house.
Good location, secluded enough for relaxation and getting away, while minutes from a walmart, gas station, restaurants, and so on.
Relaxing place to spend a weekend or otherwise get away to.
Owners communicate well and work with you to accommodate flexibility.
As stated in their description, it's not a 5 star modern hotel, and there were some points of cleanliness that weren't the best, but other than that, it was a good, peaceful, and quaint place to spend a few days on the lake and relax away from everyday hustle & bustle. Definitely would consider staying here again.
Right from our arrival we were impressed with the property and the amazing views from the sunrise bedroom and the main part of the home. We'll definitely stay here again when were visiting this part of the country!
We had a wonderful time at this lake house. It was very clean and cheerfully decorated. Bob was very helpful and responded quickly to any questions I had. The location was great. Thank you Bob.
This is the fourth time that my wife and I have stayed at this Lakefront Cottage and will be returning again. It is so easy to get caught up in the view of the lake everyday. The Cottage is simple, but has everything you need. I was disappointed that my time did not allow me to use the smoker, and one of the visits in the future we will use the hot tub. Bob is always helpful, he returns any communication in a rapid fashion.
This house has a great view of the lake; clean linens and very comfortable beds. However, the unit is listed for 4 adults yet there are only 3 chairs at the only place you can eat in the kitchen, and only 1 wine glass.
It desperately needs a deep clean; the paper towels that line the kitchen shelves were disgusting, there was dirt everywhere; under and in the couches, the windows, floors and bath were really gross. The shower caddy had so much rust on it that it should be thrown out. We did encounter a cockroach in the bathroom on our last day.
Let me address the constructive comments first. The shower caddy and shower head
needed replacing and that has been done.
We replaced the wine glasses. Those type
of things get gone all of the time. We catch it most times but we live fairly close so if you need something please call us, we are happy to help.
In regard to the missing stool...We have a set of 4 matching stools. The space looks better
with three so we put the extra at a make up table in the bedroom. It takes a minute to bring it to the kitchen and you have all four seats.
In regard to the "gross" and"disgusting" comments... I urge potential guests to refer to comments left by guests before and after these guests which were quite positive. Further, these guests asked for and were granted an extra days stay. They also asked about a short term monthly rental but we declined due to the terms offered.
It defies logic that people that found the place gross and disgusting would have ever asked for an extended stay. I think it a misuse of the review system when people exaggerate or make statements they don't mean to settle a score or to achieve some sort of undisclosed agenda they may have.
Most of our guests are so great and we do appreciate any constructive comments. We take them all to heart and address every issue that we can.
We will continue to do our best to make sure
you can enjoy our place just as much as we do!
The cottage was neat and clean and the view was awesome. There were some issues the coffee maker which would have been a huge plus wasn't working right because it needed to be descaled. Also there were no batteries for the remote in the 2nd bedroom so that TV could not be used. Overall though I found my vacation very enjoyable and again the view is awesome.
A unique feature to this property is that we have a boat rental company that provides your choice of either a pontoon boat or ski boat right from the dock in front of the house. Please inquire for additional details. Please note We are struggling to continue to offer the boats. We have had guests that over estimated their nautical expertise and have had numerous accidents and mechanical break downs due to inexperience. We will have to have a large deposit to secure a boat and please be honest about your experience level. I am more than glad to take you out and show you the ropes. Boats will be available as it is mechanically possible.
