Overview

About the property

Quiet countryside living with spectacular riverfront view

Special home in a unique private, riverfront setting, only 90 minutes by car or train from NYC, available for longer term, single family rental. Enjoy mountain biking, rock climbing, summer and winter hiking, boating, the world-famous Culinary Institute, Hyde Park, the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt Homes, the village of New Paltz, and Mohonk Lodge and Preserve, all less than 20 minutes away. Or just nap on the deck and go for a swim.

Three formal bedrooms, an additional bedroom off the master suite, and a cozy walk-out basement game room and sleeping area with the same beautiful river view as the rest of the house. Sweeping living room with adjacent dining area that seats 10, a giant fireplace and piano, large kitchen and family-room adjacent to the pool. All connected by a 50-ft deck overlooking the Hudson River. Play ping pong, sing along at the piano, shoot pool on an antique Brunswick table, watch Apple TV, play selections from an extensive Jazz and Classical music collection, sing Karaoke from the big-screen HDTV. Invite family and friends. Room to roam.

Master suite has its own balcony overlooking the pool and river, king-size 4-poster bed, huge walk-in closet, sitting area, private bath and dressing counter. Bedrooms #2 and #3 have queen beds, river views, and shared bath. Basement game room and the room off the master suite have queen beds for the occasional overnight guests. High-quality linens, towels, cotton blankets, down pillows and comforters throughout.

High speed wireless internet, great firewood, strong cell signal, solid kitchen appliances, large charcoal and gas grills with utensils. Garage, W/D, central air/heat, smoke-free. Portable door gates for small pets and kids.

The house is situated off Bellevue Avenue which, like its name suggests, affords spectacular views of Dutchess County across the Hudson River. The village of Highland, a classic New England hamlet with no Starbucks or Home Depot, is perfectly located with mountains to the west, river to the east, and bigger historic towns (Kingston and Newburgh/Beacon) to the north and south, respectively.

You'll be five minutes from the Mid-Hudson Bridge and not-to-be-missed Walkway Over the Hudson, the world's longest pedestrian bridge that you can walk or bike. A short drive across the river finds you at the Culinary Institute of America, FDR and Vanderbilt historical mansions. Just west is Mohonk Mountain House, rock climbing and mountain biking in the famous 'Gunks', wine trails, apple picking, horseback riding, and colleges including New Paltz, Vassar, Marist, Bard. Music, art and cultural events, antiquing, hiking. The property extends to the Hudson river, accessible down the slope in early spring and late fall.
