About Lauren Fowlkes or Adeline Schowengerdt
We began ranching in Presidio County in 2003 and found ourselves spending more time in the region after changing professions and wanted house in Marfa to help break up our long drive from Central Texas. We walked in this house and were immediately drawn to the positive energy of the home and landscaping. The Austinite has become a wonderful place for us to bring friends and family who want to see both sides of our lives in West Texas- the rugged ranch terrain and the charm of Marfa. As we split our time, we wanted to be able to share this wonderful adobe home with others who love Far West Texas as much as we do.
Lauren Fowlkes or Adeline Schowengerdt purchased this House in 2009
Why Lauren Fowlkes or Adeline Schowengerdt chose Marfa
Location! You can walk to almost every Marfa attraction. The historic turn-of-the-century adobe house has been nicely updated blending original period details with modern amenities. The large landscaped and fully fenced corner lot offers space for pets and people to relax and lounge outdoors. The interior is light and calm and comfortably furnished. If you enjoy entertaining, this property also offers great outdoor options.
What makes this House unique
We are repeatedly told by guests that the house has great energy- calm and uplifting. 2 bathrooms! The pond with fountain and goldfish in back yard is soothing and the yard is a great place to drag chairs into and relax. The dishwasher, central air and heat, and quality kitchen accouterments are nice creature comforts not commonly found in Marfa.

We spent a great weekend at the Austinite with our family. The house fit everyone comfortably and Lauren is very responsive.
Wonderful house in close proximity to downtown Marfa! Great lay-out and outside space - would definitely do it again. Thank you, Thank you Lauren!
Has to be the best of the whole Marfa area.
The house interior is a great balance of the prior generation's decor and furniture, but with modern updating that is cool and pragmatic. Something we appreciate after numerous VRBO stays across the US: It's exactly as advertised - what you see is what you get. Upsides:
- Beds are very comfortable.
- It's quiet here 99.5% of the time (see below)
- Yard is perfect for smaller pets
- You can walk (outside of summer days I guess) to the "main drag" of Marfa for restaurants, etc.
- Legitimate sleeping for 2 couples plus 4 others of any size.
- I-net always worked for us, though owner notes glitches owing to rural location generally. Cell coverage on Verizon was solid the whole time.
There really aren't any downsides, but read the description and look at the pics. There's no dishwasher (I brought two with me - kids!). The railroad runs through Marfa - no way around that no matter where you stay in/near town. I'm a light sleeper and it never bothered me.
Worth every penny and the management was cool and courteous.
Great Stay in Marfa!
The house is spacious, clean, and well appointed. Close to everything and great communication with our host - definitely recommend!
