About Lauren Fowlkes or Adeline Schowengerdt

We began ranching in Presidio County in 2003 and found ourselves spending more time in the region after changing professions and wanted house in Marfa to help break up our long drive from Central Texas. We walked in this house and were immediately drawn to the positive energy of the home and landscaping. The Austinite has become a wonderful place for us to bring friends and family who want to see both sides of our lives in West Texas- the rugged ranch terrain and the charm of Marfa. As we split our time, we wanted to be able to share this wonderful adobe home with others who love Far West Texas as much as we do.

Lauren Fowlkes or Adeline Schowengerdt purchased this house in 2009

Why Lauren Fowlkes or Adeline Schowengerdt chose Marfa

Location! You can walk to almost every Marfa attraction. The historic turn-of-the-century adobe house has been nicely updated blending original period details with modern amenities. The large landscaped and fully fenced corner lot offers space for pets and people to relax and lounge outdoors. The interior is light and calm and comfortably furnished. If you enjoy entertaining, this property also offers great outdoor options.

What makes this house unique

We are repeatedly told by guests that the house has great energy- calm and uplifting. 2 bathrooms! The pond with fountain and goldfish in back yard is soothing and the yard is a great place to drag chairs into and relax. The dishwasher, central air and heat, and quality kitchen accouterments are nice creature comforts not commonly found in Marfa.

Charming. Comfortable. Perfect.

2 Blocks from downtown so there's a good bit a person can do without firing up the automobile. The Overlook Trail (5 miles round trip) is at the end of Austin Street and that's where I jogged every morning and watched the rising sun light up the Davis Mountains in the distance.

But you likely are more interested in the house itself. Our party of 6 adults enjoyed it very much and would book it again without question. The house is clean and the beds are comfortable. Lots of art and style if you like that sort of thing (we do). Ice maker in the fridge--always a good thing in West Texas because you're going to want ice.

When we arrived I was looking for an iron (it was included in the amenities on VRBO) but couldn't locate one anywhere. Sent the owner a text and within 30 minutes a knock at the door and an iron presented. That right there is taking care of the guests. Yes. See "would book it again without question" above.

And so, person reading this, I'd recommend you book this house. Good luck and bon voyage.

ThIs lovely adobe home offers comfortable spaces to gather and to enjoy quiet moments.

We started each morning with coffee on the patio listening to the birds and the burbling waterfall. The house is well-furnished for comfort and flexibility. We made good memories in Marfa, and loved our stay in this house!

Very good for groups. Very close - walking distance to everything.

Very cute house on a corner of a quiet street. We walked to all our destinations. Our host said the house was not kid friendly however, we only had to move a couple of things to keep our grandson (2 years old) safe. The kitchen is well stocked with everything needed to cook. The stove and refrigerator are new. The kitchen lacks a dishwasher. So, if we go again, I will bring a dish pan to make washing easier since the sink is not a double. We washed the pots and pans before we used them due to food still stuck to them.

The master bathroom is very nice, especially for tall people. Everyone used that shower, as it was more convenient than the claw foot shower in the other bathroom. The main bathroom is very cute and quaint but if you are tall, the bathroom sink is too short and small to use.

We spent a lot of time outside in the yard. We hung a hammock under the trees and the birds are very vocal. We used the gas grill and enjoyed the nice weather.

The dining room is large and was great for the 7 of us. The living room is small but we rarely used it.

it was nice having a carport for one of our cars. We got stopped by the police at the corner of the house due to non-use turning indicators. We got a warning ticket - so if out late be very careful. We were chatted up by the very nice cop and it felt like he was testing us to make sure we were sober. We were. I would stay there again.
