About Lauren Meader

We began ranching in Presidio County in 2003 and found ourselves spending more time in the region after changing professions and wanted house in Marfa to help break up our long drive from Central Texas. We walked in this house and were immediately drawn to the positive energy of the home and landscaping. The Austinite has become a wonderful place for us to bring friends and family who want to see both sides of our lives in West Texas- the rugged ranch terrain and the charm of Marfa. As we split our time, we wanted to be able to share this wonderful adobe home with others who love Far West Texas as much as we do.

Lauren Meader purchased this house in 2009

Why Lauren Meader chose Marfa

Location! You can walk to almost every Marfa attraction. The historic turn-of-the-century adobe house has been nicely updated blending original period details with modern amenities. The large landscaped and fully fenced corner lot offers space for pets and people to relax and lounge outdoors. The interior is light and calm and comfortably furnished. If you enjoy entertaining, this property also offers great outdoor options.

What makes this house unique

We are repeatedly told by guests that the house has great energy- calm and uplifting. 2 bathrooms! The pond with fountain and goldfish in back yard is soothing and the yard is a great place to drag chairs into and relax. The dishwasher, central air and heat, and quality kitchen accouterments are nice creature comforts not commonly found in Marfa.

Charming. Comfortable. Perfect.

  • 5 of 5

2 Blocks from downtown so there's a good bit a person can do without firing up the automobile. The Overlook Trail (5 miles round trip) is at the end of Austin Street and that's where I jogged every morning and watched the rising sun light up the Davis Mountains in the distance.

But you likely are more interested in the house itself. Our party of 6 adults enjoyed it very much and would book it again without question. The house is clean and the beds are comfortable. Lots of art and style if you like that sort of thing (we do). Ice maker in the fridge--always a good thing in West Texas because you're going to want ice.

When we arrived I was looking for an iron (it was included in the amenities on VRBO) but couldn't locate one anywhere. Sent the owner a text and within 30 minutes a knock at the door and an iron presented. That right there is taking care of the guests. Yes. See "would book it again without question" above.

And so, person reading this, I'd recommend you book this house. Good luck and bon voyage.

Marfa quiet, accessible.

  • 4 of 5

Right downtown, walk to everything. Plenty of beds, decent kitchen. Met our needs - we were not there to hang out in the house, but rather explore galleries and museums.

Great location, comfortable and fun.

  • 4 of 5

Four of us had a great time and were very comfortable in the house and enjoyed the garden. Well equipped kitchen (no dishwasher) comes in handy as the few restaurants in Marfa seem to have irregular hours. All the tech (WiFi, sat tv, hvac) in good order. Bath shower faucets could use an update but bathrooms good. Would recommend to others!

Nice property and location

  • 5 of 5

4 adults and 3 children stayed here for a long weekend in the July 4th holiday.

The location is great and you're a 5-15 minute walk to anywhere near the Main Street if Marfa.

The layout was perfect for our group b/c there was a room for each of the adults and a bunk room for the kids.

Additionally, there was indoor and outdoor space for sitting around and eating.

Perfect Marfa Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I rented this house for my birthday weekend in Marfa with 6 other girls. It was the perfect house for everyone to spread out comfortably and still have extra room! Only the back bedroom has an attached bath, but the other bathroom was conveniently located off the dining room. We brought two smalls dogs with us and they LOVED the backyard! The koi pond and lush greenery made for a wonderful outdoor entertaining environment. The house is central located within easy walking distance to nearby restaurants and bars. The automated door lock made access easy for all guests. I would definitely rent this home again!

Great location - perfect spot to enjoy a Marfa weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed walking to dinner and shopping. My favorite part of vacation is sitting around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and this house has a cozy kitchen for visiting around the table. The beds were super comfortable ensuring a great night sleep. The backyard is an oasis for a relaxing afternoon. While a small thing, plenty of hot water for all six of us. I look forward to a return visit because we didn't take advantage of the fire pit yet!
