About this property
Rustic Cottage on the St Louis River
Enjoy panoramic views on the spacious deck overlooking the St Louis River. Newer constructed bar/grilling shed. On-site parking for trucks with boat/snowmobile trailers. Boat landing and snowmobile trail located adjacent to the property. Pet friendly! Only 35 minutes from Duluth. Attractions within driving distance: Gooseberry Falls, Jay Cooke Park and Echo Valley Racing.
4 Rivers Retreat
Three waterways, Cloquet and Artichoke Rivers and Stoney Brook, flow into the St. Louis River near the small town of Brookston. Thus, we present “4 Rivers Retreat”!
Start your day with a cup of coffee on the unique deck overlooking the St. Louis River. After a day of exploring the area, relax with a cocktail and enjoy the sunset. Every season offers spectacular panoramic views from this amazing deck! Gather for drinks, snacks or meals in the newly constructed bar/grilling shed, the “Whistle Stop”, or around the campfire ring. Enjoy laying out on the double-wide hammock next to the river. Pass some time with available corn hole and ring toss yard games. Take a leisurely romantic stroll down the rural roads and paths or follow the train tracks and look for agates. Launch your boat from the nearby public landing or fish from the public shorelines and have a picnic! Visiting in winter? Enjoy snowshoeing right from the property; cross country ski trails in nearby Cloquet and Duluth and downhill skiing at Spirit Mountain. Grab a quick bite at the self-described “small town country bar”, Houle'igans Saloon, within walking distance across the tracks. Meet around the campfire for s’mores. Relax with Netflix in the cabin to wind down the day or cozy up with a good book.
Pet friendly cottage has ample parking for trucks with boat/snowmobile trailers. Large back yard with fire pit, picnic table and hammock. Fire wood is free. New grilling area with gas grill or weber charcoal grill available. Bar/shed with a tailgate bar perfect for setting food and drinks on. Garage and pump house are locked. We request guests to stay out of old buildings on west side of property.
Pet friendly! Yard has ample parking for trucks with boat/snowmobile trailers. Firewood is free. Quiet river, best for small boats, kayaks or canoes. (Lots of rocks) Ceiling fans are usable by chain in bedroom and living room. Bring your own beach towels if you plan on swimming. Washer and dryer and clothesline available for use. Wearing water shoes advisable because of rocky riverbed. In winter months, slippers suggested for cold hardwood floors. Be aware, there are working train tracks nearby; they do use their horns/whistles! (Trains can be loud and there is no set schedule to follow).
If you need anything we are just a message away! We are excited to host you.
If you are interested in an OFF GRID experience, check out our other VRBO located in Kelsey, MN called Rustic Retreat on the River OFF Grid.
Security: We have two actively recording cameras overlooking the back yard to where you access back yard & deck. There is also one actively recording camera facing the driveway. All devices are on the exterior of the property.

About the host
Hosted by Sarah Caywood

We are from just outside Duluth, born and raised here. We love the outdoors! Fishing, hiking, kayaking, four wheeling and being on the water. We love nature and we fell in love with this place the moment we found it. We are so thankful and blessed to be able to share this space.
Why they chose this property
This rustic cottage is nestled in the town of Brookston. Its peaceful, quiet and on the beautiful river. The community is very welcoming, we truly have great neighbors.
What makes this property unique
The cottage is located just about 25-30 minutes from Duluth, MN, 20 minutes from Cloquet. Its just close enough to get to the nearby cities but in its own quiet area. There are beautiful sunsets and sunrises on the deck - it is truly an amazing view in all seasons.
