Star Gazing At It's Finest

In the center of it all. Wineries, theater, beaches and of course star gazing - on a clear night the stars (not city lights) light up the sky. Amenities galore, more than any hotel could ever offer. This licensed vacation home is in the rural area of Atascadero. A spacious no smoking, no pet home ideally located to visit the Historic Hearst Castle, more than 300 wineries - it will take you a couple visits to the area to get to them all and we are close enough to a dozen beaches to be there within an hour or less. You can play golf on a couple tough courses or are car shows on the top of your list? This home has covered parking and an abundance of space so there is no need to worry about your precious vehicle - there is enough parking for all. Summer evenings are warmer than the beach or southern locations yet we are cooler than the northern sister city of Paso Robles. Any time of year you can enjoy activities ranging from cycling, hiking, historical tours of California's missions, surfing, golfing, fishing and of course wine tasting. For the little ones there is the Paso Robles Fire House Museum and the Atascadero Zoo. After a fun filled day you can come back and enjoy a glass of wine in the hot tub or take a dip in the pool. This vacation home truly has it all. In case you need a little more space for guests than the 3000 square foot main Lodge - there is a Casita ideal for two, it is a separate fee not included in the main Lodge . The Casita is also ideal for a romantic stay (they are not rented to different parties at the same time so if you have rented the main Lodge you will not have anyone other than your invited guests on site. The same is true if you have rented the Casita. So bring the family invite your friends and have a wonderful time at the Gateway to the Central Coast.

Gary & Linda know how much enjoyment comes from visiting the central coast and love being able to share this wonderful home with guests coming to the area. You will enjoy the rural feel, yet you are close enough for shopping, cultural events, wineries, local events, wildlife and nature. Week ends are packed full of activities around the Central Coast.

There are so many wineries we can't keep track. There is the Zoo and the Paso Robles Fire House museum for the kiddies as well as the Historic Hearst Castel that has amazing tours. If cycling is your thing Santa Ana is a great ride and a challenging hill.

A fantastic retreat for a large family gathering!

This house and property absolutely exceeded every expectation that we had! The pictures on the website do not do it justice, it is much larger than it appears, with the master bedroom (and Jacuzzi tub) isolated from the other three bedrooms in another wing of the house, so we never heard our 14 month and 20 month old grandchildren crying in the night. The TWO hot tubs and pool were a wonderful perk for the grandchildren and adults alike, and it was enchanting to see a doe and two tiny fawns come down the hill in the “back yard”, while another evening there were 5-6 deer in the front of the house, including two bucks with decent-sized antlers. The kitchen was spacious and had everything a person needs to cook a gourmet meal, as well as a nice BBQ grill on the rear deck. The pool table on the rear deck was also very popular! The entire house was very clean and organized, with all switches and drawers labeled so there was no confusion at all; it was one of the easiest houses to stay in that we have ever rented. Pool towels were provided separate from the bath towels, and a very nice croquet set provided a new experience for several family members who had never played the game before. Lots of parking space with two spaces covered by a carport, and room for multiple other cars in the drive. The house is set well back from the road, with a wooded hillside in the back, and so was extremely quiet. We also rented the casita back by the pool, a small house with its own bathroom, kitchen, and queen bed and sitting area, which was perfect for one of our couples. The owners Linda and Gary dropped by the first afternoon (after checking with us) to give us a tour of the house and property with all its amenities, and show us how to work various equipment and appliances, and were extremely helpful and personable. We only had one question, “Why did you ever give up living in this house?” It made for a truly special time for three of our children’s families to get together for 4 days while our fourth child was getting married nearby in S.L.O. When we left, my wife and I both wished we could have stayed a month. We give it our strongest recommendation for anybody needing to accommodate a large number of people. We had 8 adults, two teenagers, and two babies, but there was so much space indoors and out that it never felt “close” in the slightest, and in fact one could entertain quite a few more people than what we had and still be extremely comfortable. We're ready to move in!

Very comfortable, private property with plenty of room for everyone!

Positives; Labeling of where items were placed was great, nice amenities upon arrival (wine and chocolates), very quiet and private even though neighbors were not that far away, plenty of room for everyone, and owners put lots of effort into making their guests comfortable. Definitely a place that worked for us 4 couples.

Negatives; Issue with the hot tub that owner tried to fix but was unable at the time, was not able to get the heat lamp working although the owner was able to (maybe too tricky for guests?), would have been nice to have a DVR to record sports during the day so we could watch at night, garbage disposal would have been nice, wireless worked but kept kicking us out after a short period of time so had to sign back in.

Overall, you have a lovely place and we all could tell that you take great pride in making it a comfortable homey rental. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Owner's Response: We are truly sorry the hot tub was not working while you were here. We have purchased a new one, however, we did find it was working after you had left. We do not have a garbage disposal as we are on a septic system. We are sorry we have not been able to get an internet service provider that is more reliable - we do have that noted on the website and we apologize again for any inconvenience it created.

Relaxing, clean, spacious, & welcoming!

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Linda & Gary's house! The house was very clean and spacious. There is so much to do with the pool, hot tub, pool table, deer watching, croquet set, and is perfect for a family gathering. We had 6 adults and 4 children (age 5 and under) and there was plenty of space and activities to keep everyone entertained! Linda & Gary also provided a high chair, crib, baby monitor, & toys when I told them the ages of the children which was so convenient! We really enjoyed our visit and would definitely book the Lodge West again if we are in the area!

Great home and responsive owners

This is the second year my friends and I get together at this house in Atascadero. The house is large, clean and perfect for a relaxing weekend around the pool. We have small children and the owners were extremely accomodating. They had a crib and a pack and play ready for us. Great property in a scenic setting. We will be back next year!!

The property was the perfect place to relax and reconnect with friends

The house is very comfortable. It has everything you need. The layout is very conducive to gatherings and to being outside with friends. Linda and Gary were great hosts... Really grateful for everything.

Beautiful house fit for a large family

Our large family all shared this wonderful home that was well situated between wine country and beach towns. The layout was clearly well thought out in the building of it, so that there is a central outdoor deck with hot tub that overlooks open scenery, with the pool area to the side. We didn't rent the casita but the 4 bedrooms were large enough for the 7 of us plus 2 kids. The hosts were readily available but left us to our privacy throughout the stay. Overall we would definitely come back!

We are a no smoking, no pet Estate in a quiet residential area located about 2 miles west of highway 101 off the Traffic Way off ramp. We are in a bit of a canyon so wifi is sketchy. There are about a dozen beaches within 15 to 25 miles west and wineries are as close as 5 to 30 miles in any direction. Hearts Castle is a must see while your in the area. It is a wonderful area for cycling, hiking, seasonal ice skating, sight seeing and best of all relaxing.

Rates are subject to change.
Reservations made less than 30 days in advance will pay the higher rate of $600.00 / nite regardless of the length of stay .
In the event there is evidence of smoking anywhere on the property or evidence of a pet anywhere on the property there will be a charge of $500.00 from your security / damage deposit.
A 2 night minimum rate is slightly higher at the rate of $600.00 / night. If occupancy is greater than 8 in the main Lodge a $ 25.00 per person - per day fee will be charged for adults and children over 2 years of age. No charge for children age 2 or under.
If additional space is needed for guests renting the main lodge a Casita is available for $175.00 / night for a 3 night minimum or $225.00 / nite for a 2 nite minimum. The Casita has a cleaning & maintenance fee of $100.00 and a tax of 13%.
The Casita only (without the main house) has a rate of $200.00 per night for a 3 night minimum, and $250.00 per night for a 2 night minimum; plus a cleaning & maintenance fee of $100.00 and a tax rate of 13%.
In the event you wish to check in early or check out late there will be a fee of $ 75.00 / hour for each hour requested.
Normal check in time is 3PM and check out time is 12 noon
Refunds are as follows: Full refund less credit card transaction fees if cancelled prior to 45 days. Between 44 to 31 days 25% plus credit card fees will be charged if reservation is cancelled and if cancelled 30 days or less no refund will be granted.
The Casita and main Lodge are not rented to guests from separate parties so you will not need to worry about sharing space with strangers.
Please do not use the self cleaning feature on the oven or a charge of $100.00 will be deducted from your security / damage deposit. This fee is due to the previous oven being burnt up due to over use of the cleaning feature.
Please do not use the wood stove without instructions –a fee of $ 100.00 will be deducted from your security / damage deposit if this is noted.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
