Overview

About the property

Hidden Lake, Farmstead, 7 Bedrooms, 6 Baths, Organic Vegetable Gardens!

The hand painted sign saying Well Fed Farm will cue you to the turn onto Christina's Way. You will then see the sweet garden

shed, the fenced in organic vegetable gardens, and old apple tree (yes the children and you are welcome to come and pick vegetables for dinner!) As you drive slowly down the winding half mile path that will enfold and welcome you, we imagine you will anticipate the house and environs you have chosen for your family vacation, reunion, celebration, wedding or romantic week for two.

Built in 2007 our luxurious lakeside camp consists of a magnificent hand made adirondack style cedar shingle home and two cozy cabins. Privacy for all. You will enter the main house onto an 1,200sq/ft screened in porch with an outdoor stone fire place, pingpong, handcrafted pine harvest table that seats fourteen. French doors afford access into every room and can be left open to feel the Maine breezes. The great room in the center of the house boasts a magnificent indoor stone fireplace, multiple couches and handcrafted game table. For the chef in you the large chef’s kitchen fully appointed with huge 60" Wolf griddle top to make loads of pancakes, a double oven for baking and it is brand new 2017! , We have just added a new 42" new Sub Zero refrigerator for all your beautiful Maine produce! An original Monson slate farm troth sink will bring smiles as you and your family or friends create meals overlooking the lake and listening to the loons. Behind the kitchen is our Herb Garden and a grassy lawn for the children to run around on. Each bedroom has it’s own private bath each decorated in a different style. Each bedroom and cabin has a private screened porch with lake views. The furniture throughout the house was handmade by local carpenters and artisans.

The Bunk House Cabin and Loft Cabin each consist of their own screened in porch, propane gas fireplace, kitchenette, sitting area, full bath and views of the lake. The Loft House Cabin has a Queen Bedroom and Loft upstairs with twin beds. The Love Bunk House Cabin has a Queen Bedroom (magnificent views of the lake) and a Bunk Bedded room with X large Bunk beds).

The property sits on 100 private wooded acres and 3,000 ft of water frontage, ripe for exploring. The lake has only five families and much of the time you will have the lake to yourself...it is rare and magical. Sunsets and breezes and quiet...The grounds boast hidden hammocks to swing on and sway in the waterfront breezes and read. There is a large outdoor stone fire grill for barbecues and picnic tables. The waterfront has a large dock, lounge chairs, 4 kayaks, a canoe, two paddle boards (new!) and a row boat/little sail boat. Perfect for swimming, boating, or fishing!

You can walk or run the 6 mile loop in the morning before jumping into the pristine water that has no motor boats and swim to your hearts content.

The property is mostly solar powered and we ask renters to be mindful of conservation.

It can comfortably sleep 14 (perfect for a family reunion) while promising everyone privacy and yet is also cozy enough for an individual couple’s retreat.

If you ever want to leave the camp you can be in Camden or Belfast in under 15 minutes and enjoy the natural beauty of the Maine Coast or the wonderful shops, farm market, sailing and restaurants along Route 1.

We built this camp as our family’s sanctuary, but we do like to share it on a limited basis with people who would also respect and appreciate it.

*There is a newly built exterior pizza oven for those who know how to use it, with permission can be used to make pizza or bread etc.

About Christina Sidoti

I am a chef and designer. I have two children and four brand new grand babies! I tend to my farm, and am dedicated to issues of Global Security, the environment and protection of children and animals. My friends and family are the world to me. This is our third season renting our home and we have met the most beautiful wonderful families from around the world who come and celebrate milestone events and have family reunions...and it is my absolute joy to have our home available for these milestone celebrations...if my walls could talk they'd be very happy! I rent my home now because I spend more and more time watching my grand babies grow which they keep doing...but they don't not live in Maine...it's been an extraordinary experience to meet through VRBO and Home Away the most wonderful people who want a shared Maine experience and we find ourselves all very likeminded. Many of our vacationers now come back year after year leaving behind some goodies like Ice Cream makers for the following year :) I love design and developing properties with an eye to sustainability and being tender with the earth. I love to create recipes from the vegetables in the garden and you'll find me parousing the Green Markets in Camden and Belfast and the Co op in Belfast for local goodies to cook. I love doing Yoga at High Mountain Hall...mostly I love playing the guitar and singing silly songs with the babies. I have traveled the world for work and such and I find no more beautiful place on earth than this home on this lake...I hope you will feel the same...most of our vacationing families feel exactly the same.

Christina Sidoti purchased this estate in 2008

Why Christina Sidoti chose Searsmont

There is a magical story behind my acquisition of the land the house is built on. Let's just say that childhood dreams come true if you never let the dream go. My grand babies now ask about when they'll be in Maine again and we dream about picking vegetables and swimming in the lake all year long! We have created extraordinary memories here, weddings and births...in the early mornings I often awake now with a baby and slip down to the lake (about 30 steps) and sit quietly with my coffee and watch the sunrise and listen for the loons. As the family awakes, the smell of coffee and bacon, frying pancakes fill the air along with the sounds of giggles and family chatter. This all warms my heart. I built this home for such moments, while fleeting they are the deepest memories. Sometimes now I see my son in law coming in on a kayak earlier than I'd expect with one of his kids they'd be out watching the mist lift and looking for an eagle...the kayak slicing through the water with one of the toddlers sitting happily the mist pulling up. What more can I tell you except that I've tried to recreate paradise where there is joy for every age and every level of adventure or no adventure just napping and reading and shopping in town. I have curated the home and cabins, the garden and waterfront to be private and social at the same time. You should want for nothing but your toothbrushes! If you need anything at all in advance of your booking and after your reserve, we are here to accommodate you from booking Lobster Clam Bakes at the waterfront to massages and sailing trips to babysitting...

What makes this estate unique

The lake has never had a motor boat on it, it's pristine and so tranquil and quiet, swimming from end to end, kayaking at sunrise or sunset, paddle boarding, fishing the bass, it is unusual because it's so private and secluded, it feels like time stands still here. A half mile private driveway, large vegetable and herb gardens to pick from. Private spaces and communal spaces so that everyone can enjoy their vacation in their own way. Yoga set up for four people. And now a new playset with swings and a slide and clubhouse. My favorite things are the paddle boards.

The Perfect Back to Nature Holiday Camp

  • 5 of 5

This past October I had the opportunity to spend a glorious week at Christina’s Way with friends. Now I know why everyone I know who has spent time in Maine always describes it with such love and reverence. This property and all it offers is the definition of the Maine experience and more.

As I drove up to the house, all I could think was wow. There’s a long drive down through the woods to a clearing on a lake where the house and cabins are situated. Before even entering the house I was drawn to the beauty of the lake through the trees. We were lucky to visit at the peak of autumn colors and it was stunning.

My partner and I stayed in the main house, which was also the main gathering space where we all cooked, ate and drank together in the great room. The house had all the amenities we needed. The kitchen was fully kitted out. The bedrooms were very comfortable and each had its own bathroom. There were also two very charming cabins, rustic, but with all the luxuries. The design of the house, screened porch and cabins allows for equal enjoyment as a group or if you need time on your own. There is something for everyone, which is so important when travelling with a larger group.

On the first night, we fired up the outdoor oven and made our own pizzas. It was a perfect way to start the week, very social and a fun way to cook with a group of people.

During the day, Christina’s Way offered varied activities to suit most everyone’s interests and to keep them happy, whether it was escaping with a book on the porch to spending time hiking or on the water. It was too cold to swim but there are more than enough kayaks, paddleboards and canoes to enjoy the lake. Paddling across the lake in the autumnal sun was spectacular. Floating the day away was the perfect antidote to the stress of life.

For a bit of civilization, Camden and Belfast were easily accessible from the house both towns are worth visiting. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, which is not to be missed, was an easy day trip.

The property felt like an adult camp, a well-loved family home, that became our home for the time we were there. As others have said, Christina was very welcoming and a generous host. She ensured we were very well looked after.

I hadn’t had much time away from work this year. Well Fed Farm provided the perfect setting to leave any stresses behind and reconnect with friends in a natural setting. I’m already making plans to go back next year.

Rustic and Remote-the way vacation should be

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week stay with friends at this property. We all agreed that this home felt like home, even though it is in a very rural area, which is much different from the environment we are used to. We were lucky to be visiting during the fall foilage, which was breathtaking.

The property is very well maintained, and we had the opporunity to pick and cook up the last of the produce from the farm.

The main house and cabins had everything we needed to make our stay relaxing and easy. Even the cabins were stocked with plenty of kitchen gear, blankets, fresh towels and sheets. We loved spending time on the screened-in patios to watch the nature around us-sunrises, sunsets, birds and chipmunks.

We had full access to kayaks, boats, board games and both an outdoor fire stove and outdoor grill.

In addition to its serenity, it is perfectly located to explore the many coastal Maine towns such as Belfast, Camden, Rockland, Rockport and Bar Harbor as easy day trips by car.

We highly recommend this rental! We hope to stay here again and next time bring more friends and family.

An ANSWER TO PRAYERS!!

  • 5 of 5

Don't even know where to begin?! By the grace of GOD and I mean that, my husband and I realized we had a small window to grab our 3 teenagers for a much needed quick vacation (one week away) - just the five of us after a very busy summer! Upon finding this amazing property, and seeing that it happened to have an unexpected opening, we immediately reached out to Christina, shared our story and crazy schedule, and were able to work it out! We packed our bags and drove!

Upon getting out of the car, I turned to my husband as I breathed in the fresh Maine air, gazed over at the lake upon sunset, and said - "Oh my gosh!! You can HEAR the silence!" That may sound crazy, but it is true. The grounds, the house, the cabins, the lake, the boats, the lake, the fire-pit, the lake... did I say the lake?...were all beautiful. It was the perfect rustic, yet classy, escape we very much needed.

Morning quiet times on the screened in porch, watching the sun rise while sipping an amazing cup of coffee, or on the dock watching the morning fog lift off the glass covered water, followed by pristine runs on a lightly traveled road, followed by a swim in the lake to cool off - it was PERFECT! Our three teenagers, 12, 14 and 16 enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding around the lake - large enough for independence, small enough to keep parents at ease! They enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks, playing ping pong around the clock, fishing off the dock or in the kayaks around the island - (husband caught a 2 lb bass - at least that's what he "claimed")... playing cards on the porch, playing charades in front of the campfire...Hiking at nearby Mt. Battie, eating out in Belfast, John's amazing lemon custard ice cream, farmer's markets... We had an amazing time, and couldn't be more appreciative that Christina was so helpful in our last minute vacation!

Christina was a complete JOY to work with, was incredibly accommodating and responsive, has an incredible sense of hospitality and has built and provided a truly amazing place to vacation!! We simply cannot say enough, and hope to be back MANY more times in the future, only this time, with more planning! Thank you, Christina, truly!!

Owner's Response: It feels as if all of the beautiful people who rent our home are brilliant writers!!!! Or, this place is so inspiring...or both! :) I am overwhelmed by your eloquent review of our place! I bet that Bass was 2lbs...sometimes the lake seems to offer up magic Bass for "fish tales". We look forward to your returning again. With all of our best for a lovely year and warmest regards, Christina and family

WONDERFUL, RELAXING VACATION

  • 5 of 5

For the third year, our family came from California, Texas and Maine to Christina's beautiful home. This gathering is the one time of the year that we are all. together. There is adequate space and privacy for our three sons, their spouses/partners and the grand children. At the same time, the great screened porch allowed us to be together as much as we wanted. We had barely unpacked when the waters of Lawry Pond began to wash away all of the tensions accumulated over the year. The fleet of kayaks, paddle boards, a canoe, sailing dinghy and row boat accommodated all of our various skill levels and abilities. The call of the loons reminded us of our place in a larger nature. We've seen beaver, herons, an eagle and numerous birds as well as turtles sunning themselves on rocks protruding from the pond. The children loved to see the minnows swimming along the dock. The location is ideal for trips to Belfast or Camden for ocean adventures. We enjoy cooking and have prepared some great meals in the well equipped kitchen. I can personally attest that one can steam numerous lobsters in that large blackened pot over a wood fire. Afterward, as darkness falls and the sky is filled with stars, we've roasted marshmallows and made smores - a timeless tradition. Christina, Thank you.

What Can I Say

  • 5 of 5

There are almost no words. I am so grateful our family was able to spend a week at Christina's magical home. I was stressed about going on vacation with two little babies and it certainly was work but not very many little ones learn to swim and kayak and enjoy the taste of freshly picked basil in just one week! Christina's place somehow allows you to feel incredibly luxurious while playing (and letting your kids play) barefoot in the dirt! My three-year old fell asleep in a sleeping bag under the starts on our last night *gush* and my five-month old was happy spending all day looking up at the leaves in a hammock. The adults in our group took full advantage of the lake front, expansive kitchen, and local offerings. Though, honestly we did not participate in nearly as many adventures as we had planned. Next summer we may try for the sunset sail, and island bike trip, that Christina suggested but this summer everyone was so happy hanging by a lake! How often do you get to do that so privately with just your peeps!? My mother was supremely comfortable and happy and she is rather hard to please. Thank you Christina! We will be back.

Lovely, private, comfortable, fun place.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place for family gathering of 10 adults and 4 little children ages 14 months to 75 years. Our two children and their children stayed in the cabins, which provided privacy for all. We gathered for meals at the large table on the great screened in porch. Lake was divine. Kitchen was fabulous. Biggest disappointment was non-existent organic farm, although there was lettuce and herbs in a small bed behind the house. Nicest surprise was no neighbors on the road or to the sides of the property. Wonderfully peaceful, comfortable, and fun place. Would highly recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: Dear Mary, Thank you for your lovely review. Regarding the garden: we had terrible weather in late May and early June and we kept trying to till the garden, and it kept flooding, we set our seedlings in twice as the first time they drowned in two back to back rain storms. Because of this are you mentioned we planted lettuces and other greens into the raised beds in the back and are glad that you were able to enjoy the mesclun greens, other lettuces and herbs that we planted there. We are so glad that you had a lovely peaceful time, we aspire to this for our guests. Wishing you and your family safe travels and warmest regards, Christina and family
