Overview

About the property

Welcome to Casa Aracari...Let your imagination soar where the Sky meets the Sea, located at a comfortable 400 meters above the coastline of Punta de Ballena in Costa Rica. This ideal tropical vacation home is nestled in the jungle on one acre of Paradise. Its unique architecture and original design by Eva offers a spacious open-air indoor/outdoor floor plan. Walk in and pinch yourself to make sure you are not dreaming!

We take pleasure in sharing the beauty of Costa Rica by using materials manufactured locally and incorporated in the design throughout the house. Construction was done by local craftsmen/artists Wilberth Acuna and Dagoberto Mora. The spiral teak staircase at the heart of the home, wraps itself around a locally grown Guanacaste tree. The railings are artistically handcrafted with local Mangrove roots and Bejuco vine. The ceiling is lined with grass mats made by skilled Mayan Indians especially for Casa Aracari.

The fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances and beautiful custom wood counters is the social center of the home. For an extra special treat, create your own gourmet dinner and serve it in the dining room while enjoying the sunset views over the ocean. Sit in the living room, open the tall folding glass doors, and create a large indoor/outdoor living space with panoramic views of the pool, surrounding jungle covered mountains, ocean, Bahia Ballena, and Bird life. You will experience the Best of Nature!

Relax under the covered deck in a hammock or lounge chair, go for a swim in the beautiful infinity pool, or enjoy an ice cold drink made from delicious fruits of the region while sitting on one of the four bar stools at the table shaded by the palapya covered umbrella in the pool.

So many beautiful scenes will delight you as you sit on the upstairs balcony and watch in awe as the sunrise and sunset transform the sky! Watch from the balcony for the many varieties of wildlife in the area... the jungle surrounding the house promises an abundance of tropical sights and sounds that will continue day and night. Be sure to have your camera ready! Howler Monkeys, Toucans, Parrots, and Dart frogs are frequent visitors.

There is a casita on the property but is not available for rent currently. Guests who rent our home will always have the use of our entire property to themselves for total peace and tranquility.

Guests of our home can enjoy the use of a beautiful nearby beach at no charge with our special Beach Club membership. Our Beach Club has a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, showers, restrooms, parking, and the private access to one of the most beautiful beaches in Marino Ballena National Park.

Neighboring towns of Uvita, Dominical and Ojochal offer fabulous Restaurants to delight your taste. As a guest of Casa Aracari you are also welcome to enjoy the special cuisine at the nearby Kura Boutique Hotel. Let us know if you are interested and we will put you in contact with our friend, the owner of Kura directly.

The road to Casa Aracari will take you on an Adventure passing by waterfalls, small bridges over streams, tree ferns, tropical flowers, surrounding jungle life and ocean views. You will see Costa Rica at its best!

There are many thrilling and educational activities in the area...Something to please everyone. Our staff is available to assist with questions and bookings. Please see list of Activities below.

We hope you enjoy planning your trip to Casa Aracari in beautiful Uvita, Costa Rica.

About Claire & Carol

Living in southern California, our family has always enjoyed outdoor activities at the Beach, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, Nature, and hiking. Our interests then were a perfect fit to purchase a home at the beach in Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula. Our favorite beaches in the Osa Peninsula are Playa Ballena, Playa Ventanas, and Playa Hermosa.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband, our two-year-old daughter, and I loved our stay at Casa Aracari! The place is even more beautiful in person! We woke up every morning with the howler monkeys, ate breakfast while watching the toucans fly from tree to tree, swam in the infinity pool after the sun came up, and checked in on the dart frogs by the gate each day before heading to the beach or whatever activity we had planned. The house is fully stocked with any kitchen items you could need, and the grocery stores in town had everything we needed. We loved stopping at the Waterfall Café on our way back to the house each day to have ice cream (we heard their chips and guacamole and fish tacos are fantastic too) and see the beautiful waterfall. We loved the Uvita area as well. Our daughter was a big fan of the beaches so we checked out quite a few. Playa Hermosa is the "free" beach just on the north side of Uvita where you can park in the shade and walk 20 meters down to beach any time. (The other closest beaches charge $6 a person because they are part of national parks, though this entry fee is good for all of them in the same day once paid.) We also loved walking out on the Whale's Tail beach, it's so unique with waves crashing on both sides. We ate at La Casona several times, which is the restaurant in the same shopping center with the Uvita information center where you pick up the key. The food was very good (we liked the "typical dish" and the chicken and rice). We also walked the nature trails around Hacienda Baru (just north of Dominical) and saw monkeys there. We had lunch in Dominical, which is a fun and unique little "surf" town on the beach. If you want to see crocodiles, stop by the crocodile bridge on the drive down to Uvita. It is north of Jaco, and you will probably see people standing on it looking down. As our guide on the mangrove tour told us, "You will see crocodiles, 200%." Getting to the house does require 4x4, our little loaded down Jimny was up to the task no problem (Alamo rental from airport was great with very transparent charges… the 3rd party liability insurance is required at $12/day, the CDW can be declined if your credit card covers it; most Visa’s do cover CDW including collisions off a paved surface, not the case for MasterCard). The instructions are tough, but they worked. Know that the house is about 5km up the mountain; this will keep you patient as you follow the directions. So glad we got to experience this slice of heaven!

Amazing Views from this Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Aracari is truly a paradise! To provide some recent insight and honestly related to the the road up to the house...it's about a 15 minute drive up the hill from town on a dirt road and has some stretches of steep hills. We rented a Toyota Fortuner 4x4 and felt very confident driving up and down daily...even once in pouring rain! We never had to be in actual 4WD on the road, but the big car helped for power which is most important.

Upon arrival you will be amazed with the lush gardens and beautiful home....and that view!! The cleanliness, style, accents and furnishings were all impressive. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool in the lounge chairs and hammock, and bird watching the toucans, aracaris, etc. The house itself has all of the needed amenities including a wonderful kitchen for cooking, DVD player and board games, and a strong wifi connection.

As an added bonus to staying at the house (for a tour fee), you are have option to experience Tico life with Marvin the gardener, taking a trip to his family farm to milk cows, eat tropical fruits, ride horses to Nauyaca falls and have a traditional Tico home-cooked lunch.

In addition, everything was seamless logistically with both Claire (the owner) and Trina (the property manager)! Thank you Claire! Was a wonderful way to end our 2 month vacation in Costa Rica! We would hands down recommend this place for couples or families looking for spectacular views in a luxurious home!

Amazing Adventure!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Aracari is an amazingly beautiful home. It is even more majestic than its pictures. It is open and airy with a lovely kitchen and pool. We spent many hours enjoying the beautiful garden, refreshing pool, and lazy hammock. I can not recommend this home enough and I will be returning next year.

I have lived near the beach for almost 30 years and collected shells throughout my lifetime and I have finally found where many of them originated. It is impossible to describe the magical experience of seeing these little shells, whole and in vibrant colors, running around on the back of a tiny Hermit crab. Watching hundreds of shells “move” at the private beach early in the morning at the beach club was a highlight of my trip.

We enjoyed the Sierpe Mangrove Boat Tour booked through the Uvita Welcome center. The guides were charming and very knowledgeable. We also enjoyed meeting Marvin and visiting the farm for a real Tico lunch.

I highly recommend the Baker Bean for coffee and a quick bite for breakfast. They make the best latte I have ever had! They have amazing empanadas and we split a bagel with eggs almost every morning while sipping our coffee and hot chocolate at the Baker Bean. I also recommend Marino Ballena Restaurant for casual food and families with children. For a more upscale breakfast and lunch experience I recommend Sibu, and lastly I have to give kudos the charming La Fogata. It will live on in infamy in our pictures of their beautiful pizzas.

The most important thing I can impart is to get a good 4x4 to drive. The vast majority of roads, with the exception of main highways, are dirt roads so you need the appropriate vehicle!

I will be back!

Gorgeous home and view

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I along with another couple recently visited Uvita and stayed in Casa Aracari. Having vacationed many times in CR, we have commented that this trip was our best, and primarily because of Casa Aracari. What an exquisite home that overlooks the Pacific and is centered to have a great view of the Whale's Tail. The property offers complete privacy, with the only noise you hear being those of nature. Perhaps our favorite time of day was day break listening to the hills awaken with the troops of howler monkeys, the many parrots flying by, the colorful toucans, including the unusual Aracari. The home offers spectacular landscaping with many lipstick palms, crotons, and flowering bushes to attract humming birds and butterflies. We spent two days without leaving the home, enjoying the tranquility of the home and pool.

The home is decorated as seen in the pics, and is very comfortable for four two couples. We loved the gourmet kitchen, and spent every evening preparing meals and recalling the days' events over wine. One day was spent in Sierpe fishing, which was very successful with many large cubera snapper being caught. Each meal afterwards was prepared with fish as the entree. By the end of our stay we had to give Marvin 2/3s of our fish.

All in all a dream vacation at a gorgeous home. There was no downside to this locale, and an unusual plus was we had a daily sampling of the rainy season, which is unusual for March. The home is without AC, but it was not needed as we slept very comfortably under the fans.

We will return to Casa Aracari, and highly recommend this home.

Pura Vida!!

Amazing house

  • 5 of 5

Where to start with Casa Aracari?! I guess from the beginning but warning, this might be lengthy! So many good things to say about it.

This was our 1st trip to CR. We were not sure where to start our trip, but after some research, I realized that the South Pacific region is where we wanted to stay, more specifically, Uvita.

Once I got connected with Claire, I knew it was the right house for us (we brought our boys along with us, 8 & 10 yrs old). Claire was instrumental in helping & guiding us on what we needed to know before we arrived to CR & what to expect during our trip. We couldn't have had such a great trip without her guidance.

Once we arrived in Uvita, we met Trina, the house manager & she guided us up the mountain. Trina was very helpful, even with the small questions :)

Claire & Trina will tell you that you need a 4x4 and they are not kidding! But the ride up to the house is worth it. It is so spectacular to look out & see the Whale's Tale (low tide) & the beautiful garden. It is so peaceful. Just you & the nature.

The wood work in the house is so impressive but yet the house is so comfortable. The kitchen is very well stocked, with more than just the basics. The house even has a cooler, which came in very handy as we went to the beach & other trips.

Every morning we woke up to the jungle sounds, followed by a swim in the pool as we were admiring the view or the toucans flying by.

While we stayed at the house, we did so many things: zip lining w/ OSA Peninsula canopy tours, Ballena Nat'l Park, Corcovado natl park w/ La Perla del Sur, Nauyaca waterfall (bring a lot of water), Uvita waterfall (just down the road from the house) & we visited the nearby beaches (Ventanas, Hermosa, Dominicalito & Dominical).

The last day we stopped at the Ballena Beach club. I wish we had more time to spend there. The beach is empty & just amazingly beautiful. The food is also supposed to be very good.

Our favorite place to eat was Sibu coffee shop. Their coffee is excellent & they have delicious breakfast & sandwiches. It is a must if you are in Uvita.

We also tried a local place "Terrazzana" which had excellent local food & seafood; it was recommended to us by a local after we did the zip line tour.

If you go to Dominical, try Tortilla's flats. Really good nachos!

I can go on & on! Our first trip couldn't have been any better & we are so greatful that we picked Casa Aracari. Thank you for sharing your beautiful place with us. Can't wait to return!

Adventure Travel in Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much Claire, what a spectacular place!

So much to say, but have seen lots of fantastic reviews in the past that I would echo. Yes, you do want to have a good 4 wheel drive vehicle. We were following another family in on the first day and their mid-sized 4 wheel drive SUV struggled getting up the hill. They had to unload 4 passengers, turn off the AC, and then were able to make it up.

The hike to the waterfall with Marvin is amazing. So is lunch at his neighbor Maria's. My son said his meal was: "the best chicken he had ever had".

We loved heading into Dominical for food, and activities. As a family we loved the whitewater rafting, zip lining at Osa, surfing lessons, and on and on. We were travelling with two boys, 12 and 10. This was their favourite vacation!

Casa Aracari is amazing. You will not be disappointed if you are thinking about renting this house. There is not any air conditioning, and it was hot while we were there. We found it a bit too warm a couple of nights, but with the fans going and the high ceilings, it did cool off during the night.

Fantastic trip, such a wonderful experience. Thanks again Claire for everything.

Fabulous View, House, and Pool

  • 5 of 5

Our family had the best vacation ever! We saw lots of birds and wildlife, and the Whales Tail was impressive at low tide. We loved being outside in the pool and beautiful gardens of Casa Aracari. The house is designed for a great indoor-outdoor experience with plenty of cross ventilation and is quite comfortable with the doors open. The owner was always very helpful. Our favorite tours were the Mangrove boat ride and the visit to Nauyaca waterfalls. The hardest part of this trip was leaving Casa Aracari to go home. We will be back!
