About the property

Beach House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 2 kitchens (Sleeps 8)

Casa Mira Mar hovers over the breaking waves of Dominical Beach. It is perched on a hill 200 meters from the ocean on a secluded beach and is a perfect home base for beach and mountain adventures. This 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 2 kitchen home is perfectly located in one of Costa Rica's most wild and scenic areas, right between Playa Dominical and Playa Dominicalito. The National Wildlife Reserve, Hacienda Baru, is less then 5 minutes away and the "must see" Whale's Tail National Park is 20 minutes away. Also, the world famous Maunuel Antonio National Park is 45 minutes away and makes for a great day trip. Corcovado and the Osa Penninsula are right around the corner and would make for a great weekend trip.

The house itself is set up with an amazing covered deck that quickly becomes the hang out area for everyone. There is also an outdoor patio downstairs that is perched above the ocean. It is the perfect spot to watch the sun set into the pacific and enjoy a tasty beverage. Manuel Antonio can be seen clearly from this perch, as well as the waves crashing on dominical beach.

Both kitchens are set up with everything you need to make a healthy and delicious tropical meal.

The house is furnished with artistic and locally made tropical hard wood pieces that are a nice compliment to the clean/tiled feel of the place.

All 3 bedrooms have their own full bathroom. From the beds in each of the rooms, you can wake up and see and hear the ocean without lifting your head off the pillow. Then have a cup of coffee and walk 5 minutes down the hill for a quick dip in the pacific. That's how we like to start the day.

Our house works great for friends, couples, or families. The upstairs deck is completely baby proof with railings on all sides :-)

The yard has citrus trees, mango trees, coconuts palms, bamboo and many flowers. It slopes down towards the main road and ocean. Birds are bountiful (especially parakeets) and a monkey has been eating the papayas lately.

Located 200 meters from the ocean, the beach is accessible via driving or walking. Althouth the beach is close (there is a trail to the beach down the short driveway, and across the street), we recommend driving unless you are very steady on your feet. The road is gravel and steep and it can be easy to lose your balance. There are many beaches within a 2 minute drive where you can park right under a sea almond tree and watch the waves roll in. Our favorites are Dominicalito and Dominical beaches.

Its truly a sweet little spot for relaxing and makes for a great home base for your Costa Rican adventures.

About Jane and Ryan Lubbers

I first came to Costa Rica as an English Teacher back in 1998. I was fresh out of college and was interested in exploring the planet and learning Spanish. Costa Rica proved to be the most ideal place on earth for me. Its the perfect nature lover's paradise. I love the biological diversity, tropical cuisine and most all i have come to love and respect the people of Costa Rica. I have traveled the country extensively and can give advice on all Costa Rican travel plans.

Jane and Ryan Lubbers purchased this house in 2010

Why Jane and Ryan Lubbers chose Dominical

Although Costa Rica has many great beaches, we love Dominical the best. The town is very manageable and the house is a 5 minute drive to shopping, banks, tours, surfing restaurants, bars, night life and a national park. The house itself is not like other houses which are 15 minutes drive from the ocean. This casita is so close to everything and that just makes more beach time and less car time which I like on vacation. The mountains meet the ocean here like nowhere else in Costa Rica. You can be swimming in the ocean at Dominicalito beach and walk 5 minutes up the hill and be bathing under a 20 foot waterfall at posa azul. I also feel safe in Dominical. I like the eclectic crowd and the tranquillo vibe. Its a magical spot in the world and I feel good when I'm there drinking a pipa (coconut water) on the beach.

What makes this house unique

Being a two minute walk from a secluded beach is the most unique aspect of this home. The casita is so close to Playa Dominicalito, Playa Dominical, Hacienda Baru and Posa Azul Waterfall and swimming hole. Being so close to the ocean and having an ocean view are priceless. Also being so close to the great restaurants, grocery stores and tour operators of Dominical is very convenient. Its a superb house and location. Also, the house has a guest book that has descriptions of many activities to do in the area. That way each visitor can add his/her input and we can all learn from those experiences making our short time there more enjoyable. Its like a house journal that holds the memories and experiences of all who enjoy themselves there and want to share their stories.

The proximity to the ocean is the best amenity of this house! A few things to know: Water- Tap water is fine to use for cooking, dishes, and brushing teeth. Use bottled water for drinking. You can return the extra large water bottle to any grocery store and exchange it for a full one. Toilet Paper- Pipes in Costa Rica cannot handle toilet paper. Please dispose of toilet paper in the trash cans next to each toilet. Be sure to rent a 4x4 car for the short road up to the casita. Please contact our housemanager immediatly if there are any issues with the property during our stay.

We loved Miramar. The view was fabulous, we could see the beach below, and the sunsets were wonderful. Jane was very helpful for advice about Costa Rica in general and how to reach the house from San Jose. Edwin was always available, even when we arrived late at night. He had great suggestions for activities, and also came immediately when we had a problem with hot water. Although there was a road below, it did not disturb us. The pool was great.

wish i could stay forever

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Casa Mira Mar. My husband and our 2 small children loved every minute of our time in Dominical. The house was well set up for kids and we spent a lot of our time enjoying the view from the upstairs deck. You can see the ocean from each room, which made waking up a pleasure everyday. Edwin, the manager, was a treasure. He helped us plan our adventures and was an mazing resource. We are already planning our next trip!

Lovely View, Great Home

  • 4 of 5

This is not your typical sit around the house and watch TV home. It's great for sleeping, light cooking and sitting on the deck to watching the surf but does not have a central living room. We really didn't need one though because we were usually out enjoying the culture. When we did want to regroup, watching the ocean from the deck was wonderful, even into the evening. There are 3 bathrooms with showers which made it nice for all of us to have our own. The beds were comfortable and very clean. The A/C worked great and were glad we had it. Edwin, the house manager, was terrific to work with. Anything we needed and more he was available to help. He spoke great English too. The house came with a landline phone which was available to use for local calls. The neighbors were great and we felt very safe. It is only a 5 minute walk to the beach but the driveway is extremely steep so you have to be in pretty good shape to walk up it. We choose to drive it. The thing I liked most about this home was the privacy of each of the rooms from each other. It's a great place to share with other couples.

Dream spot!

  • 5 of 5

Being a wildlife enthusiast, I was pumped to head down to Costa Rica. My friend and I were looking for a spot that not only had amazing wildlife viewing potential, but also close proximity to the beach so we could kick back and enjoy the waves. We ended up deciding on Casa MiraMar and we were both blown away when we arrived. Not only was the house beautiful and spacious, offering daily sunset viewings, but we basically had our own canopy deck for birding! While we were pumped for the close proximity to the amazing wildlife preserve, Hacienda Baru, we were surprised that we didn't even have to leave the house for wildlife viewing opportunities! The beauty of the house, view and proximity to the ocean, and nearby Pacific Lowland Rainforest make this place a no brainer. We will be back!
