Cindy Lou's 3BR/3BA Beachfront 10th Floor East Corner Unit in Island Royale!

Sleeps8
Bedrooms 3

Property type condo
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

Overview

About the property

Cindy Lou’s TOP TEN reasons to rent unit 1001 in Island Royale:

1. Beach/Gulf Front! Nothing separates you from the Gulf of Mexico other than a short walk on sugar white sand!

2. Balcony and Views! The private and spacious balcony is on the 10th floor and on the east corner of the building. The unobstructed views of the Gulf’s emerald green water and white sand beaches are to die for!! The sunrises and sunsets are will take your breath away! (Please view my photos!)

3. Location! The condo is located 0.8 miles from downtown Gulf Shores, making it an easy walk (along the street or beach) to restaurants like The Hangout and Bahama Bob’s, and The Pink Pony Pub. Pier 33 (a small carryout/grocery store) is just across the street.

4. Beach! Our beach is huge, clean and sugar white! Unlike other larger condo complexes where guests crowd the beach, Island Royale is a smaller but newer building which allows for a comfortable beach population! Set up your beach camp and have plenty of room to play!

5. Condo Layout! My family friendly, 3 bedroom, 3 bath condo sleeps 8 and has plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have their own space. Each bedroom has an attached bath for each guest’s privacy. There is a flat screen TV and Blu-ray or DVD player in each bedroom. The dining area seats 9. If you have an extended family and you need more space, check out my penthouse unit that’s just 5 floors above this unit (VRBO 838652). It will sleep 8 people too, so that gives a total of 16 family and friends all located in the same building and on the same beach!!

6. Convenient Beach Gear Storage: No need to lug your beach gear for miles after your day in the sun. Unit 1001 has parking near the entrance to the beach. Simply walk off the beach and drop your heavy beach gear in the back of your vehicle. Done!

7. Clean! How many units have you had to clean when you arrived to begin your vacation? Not here!! My unit is cleaned by a wonderful couple who treat my unit as if it were their own home. They do not cut corners, they clean ‘em!!

8. Updated! My unit has brand new carpet in all 3 bedrooms, a new dining set and bar stools. The bedrooms have been freshly painted for the 2017 season and 2 of the 3 bathrooms were remodeled in 2014.

9. Extra Features! There is a fabulous indoor/outdoor swim through heated pool and indoor and outdoor hot tubs. The Island Royale building has 2 outdoor charcoal grills, a fitness center, and sauna and steam room and upgraded Wi-Fi for 2017!

10. Owner Operated! I own my unit and I manage it. I do not use a hard to reach Management Company. You may call me 24/7 and I will either pick up my phone or return your call within minutes. If you have any issues, I will address them immediately!! Your vacation is very important to me and I want to make it the best ever! My goal, for my guests, is to have such a positive experience they want to make my condo and Gulf Shores part of their family tradition year after year!

About Cindy Winkeljohn

Hi! My name is Cindy Winkeljohn (my friends call me Cindy Lou) and I (along with my husband) own Island Royale units 1001 and P201. I really enjoy managing our condos and I truly wish for all who spend their vacation there to have a great time and a good experience! I live in a suburb of Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, but grew up on a hog/dairy farm in western Ohio with my 4 brothers and sisters, a horde of dogs, cats, chickens, pony, cows and pigs. I'm a Physical Therapist but my true love is spending time at the beach and managing these properties. I have twin boys and a daughter who are now out of college and doing their own thing, but every summer while they were growing up, we vacationed at the beaches along the Atlantic coast and the Gulf of Mexico. In 1996 we started vacationing in Gulf Shores and since our first visit, we never went anywhere else. When the real estate market corrected in 2008 and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill happened in 2010, it created the perfect opportunity for us to purchase in Gulf Shores and Island Royale. We purchased unit 1001 in 2012 and added P201 in 2016. We absolutely love the Island Royale property and love sharing it and all it has to offer with our guests.

Cindy Winkeljohn purchased this condo in 2012

Why Cindy Winkeljohn chose Alabama

When I was growing up and newly married, I lived in Ohio and Northern Virginia. We always went to the beach for vacation, so I’ve vacationed at Cape Cod, Long Beach Island, Virginia Beach, Emerald Isle, Oak Island, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head Island, Amelia Island, Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Cape San Blas. In 1996 we moved to Collierville, TN, and the closest beach was Gulf Shores, Alabama. I had never heard of the beach in L.A. (Lower Alabama), but was blown away by what I found. The beach was sugar white and the people very relaxed and laid back. Gulf Shores has managed to stay a well kept secret that allows us to stay at a perfect beach that is not nearly as commercialized as any of the other beaches we visited. After we moved to Texas, Gulf Shores was still the best beach we had visited, so rather than go to the Texas beaches, we kept making the trip to Gulf Shores, and eventually purchased our first Island Royale property there in 2012.

What makes this condo unique

The best feature of this property is the corner view! The wide open east end balcony offers a panoramic view of the Gulf of Mexico to the south and to the east. Most of your time at this property will be spent on the balcony. Another unique feature is the inclusion of a full bath in each of the three bedrooms. This really presents itself as three individual suites where you can get away from your group for some down time if desired. Each bedroom has a HDTV along with either a DVD or Blu ray player.

Finally, unlike many of the properties in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, I manage the properties I own...so this is truly a vacation rental by owner, and you will always work directly with me. The majority of properties are managed by BIG real estate companies that are hard to contact and add big fees to their total rental price.

I hope you will love Gulf Shores as much as I do, and I look forward to working with you to provide a wonderful vacation experience.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Once again we had a wonderful and relaxing time in your condo. Thank you so much the wonderful gift. Condo is still as pretty as last time we stayed.

Truly as advertised

Condo is very nice, cutely decorated, very clean, beautiful views, and has everything you need to enjoy a great vacation. Construction next door created a little bit of noise but that is almost complete, and I was surprised that it didn't really interfere with the views of the beach or gulf. This was our 12th year in gulf shores and this was one of the nicest condos we've rented. Our only complaint was the 2 hot tubs were not working properly, which is not the fault of the owners, and hopefully will be fixed as we would like to rent this condo again next year.

I stayed for a month and the entire experience at this condo was wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The condo had all the amenities we wanted both inside and on the property. Decor was well done, invitingly, colorful and functional. The ocean view from the spacious balcony was truly breathtaking. We watched many beautiful sun rises and sun sets. This balcony could be accessed from the main living area and the master bedroom. Each of the three bedrooms had its own bathroom and TV allowing privacy if one chose not to be out in the common living, dining and kitchen area. Kitchen was well equppped and laundry was in its own room. Back bedroom also had a balcony and great waterway view.

On the property are an exercise room, sauna, steam room, indoor and outdoor pools as well as hot tubs.

The process and owners are easy to deal with. It was obvious they care about the details in their condo and the experience of their guests.

There is much to see and do in the immediate area as well as Mobile, Pensacola and Fairhope, including restaurants, shops,, museums, fish markets and outdoor amusements. Frankly we also loved beach walking and sitting on the balcony watching the ocean. I also joined the rec center in Gulf Shores so I could participate in yoga and Pilates classes.

The condo is well located in a beautiful building. It is pretty, beachy and comfortable. I loved my time there and my only complaint was having to leave!

An honest review .... The good & thebad...

  • 4 of 5

We sadly say good-bye to beautiful Gulf Shores today.

The good: This condo was nice sized, fit our family of 5 adults & 2 kids perfectly. Nicely equiped. Some beds were great & others (mine) one twin was as hard as a rock the other not so much. The view is to die for. The beach access is great. The pools are awesome! The outside hot tub does not work tho.

The bad:

The couch cushions are worn out.

There were ample pillows but all of them flat as a pancake. We had to go buy some to make it thru the week.

I was awakened each morning by the construction noise of the condo building next door starting before 6:00am! Saws, heavy equipment, constant beep, beep, beep, beep, men yelling, etc. and it continued til 4:00p. everyday (even Sat).

Here's the worst for us.... And I only mention this in case the owner does not know....

The condo cleaning staff should be fired! They apparently only hit the centers & move on. We had dust on the vent, ceiling, & fan in the twin room. All ceiling fans were dusty... The master even had dust on the fan pull chains! The baseboards & chair rails were covered in dust. We moved some of the LR furniture only to find piles of dirt under the tables, behind the couch. Walls were marked & gouged throughout. We decided to check the ac filters & they looked like they had never been replaced! So, we replaced them with two from the closet. The master ceiling has some kind of water damage covering the entire ceiling, looked moldy, but not sure if it was.

So, bottom line... Would we return to this condo? No. The visual signs of how this condo is being cared for just turns us off. The pictures online don't show the real condition of the unit. I hope the owner is totally unaware of how it is being taken care of & may visit herself more often to check on it.... If she is aware, then shame on her. I took lots of pics & intend to share them with her.

Owner's Response: Lynn, thanks for your review. I’m glad you found the condo to be a nice fit for your family and that it had everything you needed. I agree with you completely that “the view is to die for”. It is the best part of my stay when I am in Gulf Shores. You and I exchanged many emails prior to your stay about the condo’s amenities. I am confused as to why you did not call me during your stay to report the things you were not happy about. In the last conversation we had, the day you arrived at my condo, you (or someone from your group) spoke with my husband about some confusion with the keyless entry. The last thing he said was “don’t hesitate to call if anything comes up during your stay. We want you to have a great vacation.” So again…if there were problems or if you were unhappy, why didn’t you reach out to me? I have many people in place in Gulf Shores who I can call to help my guests. They can be at my unit within the hour. If you had only called, I would have had the things that you perceived as problems, taken care of immediately. I even have paint stored in the unit. They could have touched up the areas of the walls where the luggage carts leave marks. One of my favorite sayings is “Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.” I wish you and your group would have given me the opportunity to “react to” anything that you perceived to be lacking. I would have happily addressed your concerns.

Great condo

  • 5 of 5

The condo was beautiful and well equipped with plenty of things we needed daily. We had 2 adults and 6 kids and had plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. The location was perfect. Close enough to all the fun things but still quiet for the most part. One thing my kids hated (coming from a country living family) was the fire station was just down the road and sirens from the emergency vehicles went off many times day/night. The beds were all comfortable and I loved the doors in the master that we could leave open a crack to hear the ocean. We had to limit who was on the wifi or it wouldn't work for anyone. Doing a set time for each set of kids worked well. Overall the place was great. Wish the weather had cooperated a little more but definitely a place we would stay at again! Thanks!!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind words! I'm so happy you found the beds comfortable! Isn't it great that you can hear the ocean from the master bedroom and living room? That's one of my favorite things! Hope to have you back next year!
