About Diane Powers

Eric and I grew up in Lake Luzerne, NY...and even though we've since moved away, still consider it Home. More than ever, we appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the Adirondacks...and the incredible gift of having grown up there. We've enjoyed renting our pondhouse since 2006...and have many guests returning year after year!

Diane Powers purchased this house in 2006

Why Diane Powers chose New York

Our 'pondhouse' was built by Eric's grandfather. It is a magical place, full of fond memories of family gatherings centered around the peaceful natural surroundings.

What makes this house unique

The house is not a camp or cabin; it is a year round home, heated, and available for rent year-round. It is not 'closed up for the winter'...and therefore does not smell like a camp or cabin!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The property had everything we needed and more. It was great! The property had a private pond where we enjoyed using the paddleboat and the outdoor deck to bbq. The house had everything we needed and it was very clean. The owner was great and it was even better to have a relative live near the property if we needed something or had any questions about the property. The location of the property was close to lake george and other attractions. They had great restaurants nearby and had many activities and attractions that we could enjoy. it was a great and relaxing memorial day weekend.

Peaceful retreat at the Adirondacks

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week and Diane was very responsive. We appreciated her greeting us and showing us around the property. It was great to be able to sit outside and enjoy the large pond. There were several boats which were used by my family every day. We also walked up to the beach at Lake Luzerne many of the days. The water at the pond was sometimes not ideal for swimming because of floating stuff from the pond but the beach up the street is really great. We liked walking into the village to eat at the Upriver Cafe - a fabulous lunch & dinner spot. The village has a pharmacy and a small grocery store. We also went to a great weekend bazaar in the park by the beach and made several great finds.

The house is a typical lake house, older, a bit musty, but charming and great for our family. We are a family of four and were able to stay in the upstairs bedrooms. This left us a guest room downstairs with a queen and twin bed in it. This came in handy as we had guests on two different nights who utilized the room.

It was quite warm when we were there but the bedroom we stayed in had a wall air conditioner and Diane added another one in the living room during our stay. It cools down so much at night though, that window fans work fine too. The shower is good as well. (No tub)

We are runners and there is a great run from the house if you are interested. Just head out Lake Road and it goes along the river (ironically). It's quite pretty. As for things to do, we could not fit in all we wanted in a week. There are multiple white water raft and tubing companies within a couple miles. We went to a place called Tubby Tubes with a tube slide that you do on a hill. The kids really enjoyed it (age 9&12). Six Flags at Great Escape makes for a full day and we had a wonderful time on the roller coasters and at water park there. We also went to Adirondack Extreme Adeventure which is a zip line, ropes course kind of place. It is well worth the cost and unforgettable! It was scary but very fun. There are many great hikes. We missed out on climbing Hadley, but it is recommended.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and the time went much too fast. Enjoy your visit to this sweet location.

Very quiet pond-side home

  • 4 of 5

This property is beautiful, and the pond is pretty quiet. It's not a huge pond, but it's definitely enough for fishing and kayaking, which are included with the property. The neighbors are nice and keep to themselves. There is a lot to do nearby, with Lake George only about 10 minutes away. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet time away.

Everything you need for a cozy and relaxing get-away in nature

  • 5 of 5

Michael and I felt wonderfully refreshed after our 3 night stay at Diane's pond house near Lake Lazerne, a 20-minute drive from Lake George.

We had originally planned on staying at Diane's river house on the Hudson, but due to an unexpected delay in renovations there, Diane offered to switch us to this cozy property on a privately-owned pond where swimming was very pleasant and much less frigid than Lake George at the beginning of June. The change in reservation went smoothly and Diane was extremely helpful in providing information for our stay, most of which has to do with guest access to the pond for swimming or taking out the row boat, kayaks or paddle boat.

The water is clear and refreshing, a natural ecosystem to enjoy around the private cove, or out on the water in a boat where peace and quiet accompanies the warm sunshine. Signs are posted on the land surrounding the pond to dissuade guests from climbing on the small dam or walking on the neighbors' property. However, as the listing's description and photos accurately show, there is more than enough space indoors and outdoors for couples, groups of friends and families to enjoy the yard, the Gazebo, the Dam Landing, and the house in beautiful surroundings. Inside, the living areas are clean and comfortable with everything needed to prepare food, sleep well and simply relax. Of course, a cottage in the woods comes with the usual earthly smells and critters, but the fresh air and pond constantly give an outdoor feel to the place.

Diane kindly offered suggestions/brochures for activities and restaurants in the area. We enjoyed eating dinner at Upriver Cafe overlooking the falls and taking a hike up Prospect Mountain. Driving the entire length of Lake George is a 3-hour road trip with gorgeous views and historical sites beyond Bolton Landing and Fort Ann. The town of Lake George itself has lots of places to shop, eat and drink with views of the lake and live music. The weekend turned out to be great for visiting local breweries and enjoying delicious meals with freshly prepared produce, including lunch at Battle Hill Brewing Company and dinner at Smokey Joe's Saloon & Grill.

We highly recommend Diane and this property, and we look forward to returning to the area for a stay at the river house in the Fall.

Many thanks,

Thomas and Michael
