About the property

Townhome, 3 Bedrooms + sleeper sofa, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)+Outdoor shower

A peaceful gated beachfront community awaits! Enjoy morning coffee w/ a serene lakeview and VERY short walk (less than 3 minutes) to one the Gulf of Mexico's finest pristine beaches. Leave your shoes at the beachside pavillion and don't miss the relaxing feel of the fine sand between your toes! Barrier Dunes' beach offers a nice sandbar during low tide, extensive shelling, and access to miles of shoreline for running or strolling. The sunsets are fantastic and you can catch the dolphins patrolling the beach and jumping clear out of the water, leaving you with the question 'Did I just see that?'. Bring along some frozen shrimp for surf fishing and hook ladyfish, pompano, sailcats, whiting, rays, and an occasional king mackerel. Off the beach, enjoy two pools, one of which is oceanfront and the other is heated, two lighted tennis courts, and boat storage and cleaning station.

Free Wifi!

We have updated with new flooring throughout in Fall 2013 (no more carpet)! Fresh interior paint throughout in 2012 with beach themed colors! New king sized bed in the master bedroom. The guest room contains a queen sized bed and the third bedroom has two single beds and its own private bath. Each bedroom has a private deck. Our unit comfortably sleeps six in beds and has a sleeper sofa for two more in the living room.

Nearby you can access the bay from Saint Joe Peninsula State Park. Less than a five minute drive away, you can launch your boat here or simply walk to the bay for excellent fishing, crabbing, and bird watching. The entrance fee is $6.00 per vehicle or $11.00 if you are launching a boat.

A bike path extends for the length of the peninsula and kayaks can be rented for a day on the bay. Horseback riding is available close by at Salinas Park.

For those who enjoying fishing, you can charter bay fishing guides for redfish, flounder, speckled trout, tarpon, Spanish mackerel, and scallops. Off shore fishing is available at the Port Saint Joe marina, as are sunset sailing cruises, which I highly recommend.

Drive a short distance to the world famous Indian Pass Trading Post for raw oysters and stuffed shrimp. Several excellent seafood restaurants are in the area and you can walk to Cone Heads for grilled grouper or an awesome cheeseburger. Gas is available on the peninsula, as is pizza, ice cream, and other convenience items. A large Piggly Wiggly is located in Port Saint Joe for groceries. If you want to explore the area, Port Saint Joe and Apalachicola offer great restaurants and shopping. Want to prepare your own seafood? Several fresh seafood markets are nearby and we have a gas grill for the perfect shrimp ka-bob or you can use the george foreman grill for your blackened mahi-mahi.

Barrier Dunes is an exceptional vacation spot where you can relax. Have dogs? They are welcome on the beach! We leave our chairs, toys, tent, etc.. on the beach during our entire stay! Our kids enjoy riding their bikes on the paved street and there are streetlights for added security. What you will not find on your vacation here are traffic jams, crowds, and high rise buildings.

About Jim McElroy

We are Jim and Christy McElroy from Knoxville, TN and we love the beach! Our kids will dig in the sugar white sand for hours while we watch our surf rod for action. Sunshine, salt water, and seafood just seem to be the right ingredients for our family's vacation. We enjoy the abundance of butterflies, fishing in the bay, and the serenity of a sunset on the beach.

Jim McElroy purchased this townhome in 2011

Why Jim McElroy chose Florida Main North West

We really like the fact that Barrier Dunes is a gated, beach-front community where everyone seems friendly! As if the sugary white sand and knee deep sand bar weren't enough, Saint Joe state park offers 2500 acres, miles of shoreline, and access to Saint Joe bay, a splendid habitat for marine life. Everyone we talk to loves Cape San Blas and returns year after year, and we know why.

What makes this townhome unique

Our vacation home provides cable TV, w/ HBO, High Speed internet access w/ wifi, free long distance, as well as a Verizon network extender for maximum cell phone coverage for Verizon subscribers (A must if you need your cell phone while on vacation). We are located very close to the solar heated pool and also a small playground for the children. Fish in a well stocked lake right from our backyard or just relax on the deck on Adirondack style furniture crafted by a local woodsmen from gorgeous Florida Cypress.

For convenience, we have an outdoor shower w/ hot and cold to rinse off after returning from the beach. We also provide a nice beach cart for toting your toys to the beach.

A Great Townhome

  • 5 of 5

Jim, Thank you for sharing your townhome with me and my family. It was very clean and had everything we needed. Location was very close to the pool and tennis courts. We enjoyed getting to know Gary & Vicki who owned the townhome beside us. They gave us information on places to eat and visit; also the quickest way back home. We had so much fun on the beach. We built a bonfire one night and roasted wieners. We had a relaxing time. Thanks again for a terrific place to stay.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The owner was extremely helpful in getting the paperwork done on a short notice. He was also quick to return the damage deposit once it was cleaned. The condo was clean and well stocked with all the amenities for four adults.

The location is convenient to the beach (about a three minute walk from the condo) and the entire complex was well maintained.

I would recommend this condo to any of my family or friends for a relaxing get away.

A great condo

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Barrier Dunes many times and this is the best of the units we have rented. It is well located near one of the pools and a short walk to the beach. This roomy condo was clean and well maintained. There was even decent cookware! Three bedrooms and baths gave us plenty of room. Thanks for providing a terrific place to stay.

Great Getaway, kids loved it! Slow and away with no cell signal, fell off the grid for a week

Great Getaway, kids loved it! Slow and away with no cell signal, fell off the grid for a week!

Only cell service is verizon and we have AT&T. Had great internet speed though and etc. Great beach and pools. Awesome place to let kids ride their bikes and play outside. If you are looking for a PCB type vacation this is not the place, it is a slower lifestyle place with no wal marts close! It was exactly what we wanted. Thanks we will probably be back! Great place for pets because there are as many dogs as people at this resort!

Great experience!

  • 5 of 5

This place was just what my wife and I were looking for. Spacious living space, fully furnished kitchen, a grill, a beautiful beach, the friendliest beachgoers, and several uncrowded pools. We really enjoyed the seclusion of area, not wanting the hussle and bussle of a crowded vacation spot. The condo did have a Verizon Hot Spot so we had cell phone and internet capabilities, which other secluded rentals did not offer. We did our research and knew that the closest big chain grocery store was more than 20 minutes away, so we planned ahead, causing no issues for us. This week was a chance for my wife and I to enjoy the beach and what is really important- each other, without the distractions of the usual tourist environment. The adjoining Natural Wildlife Reserver was also awesome!

Great place to stay in beachfront community

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Barrier Dunes! The setting is ideal for peaceful relaxation and everyone is very friendly! We felt very safe in Barrier Dunes and enjoyed the multiple pools after our times on the beach. We also took advantage of St. Joe Bay for boating and fishing. This condo is clean and the kitchen is well prepared for meal preparation. The gas grill came in very handy, too. The main deck was perfect for evening winding down and we fed the turtles without leaving the deck. We used the outdoor shower daily. Highly recommend!
