Our fully renovated, converted one-room schoolhouse, built in 1883, is located in a private rural setting on a semi-wooded one acre lot, complete with a meandering stream and plenty of property for relaxing or entertaining guests. The 1200 square foot house has many of its original historic features, including hardwood floors with marks still visible where the school desks were bolted down, slate chalkboards, schoolhouse lights, and all ten of the original seven foot tall windows.

The floor plan is open and furnished with a mix of old and new, with a fully equipped stainless steel & granite kitchen that opens into a large dining and living area with 14 foot ceilings. The dining table seats six, and there are 3 bar stools for additional seating at the kitchen counter. There is a full bath on the first floor with a tiled walk-in shower. The living area has two couches, one with a queen size pullout bed. The loft bedroom has a queen size pillow top bed, a half bath and walk-in closet. There is a laundry room on the basement level.

The schoolhouse is located just 5.5 miles from downtown Westfield, NY and 16 miles from the world renowned Chautauqua Institution (Named best small town to visit in 2014 by Smithsonian Magazine) which offers concerts, theater performances and world famous speakers. You will be staying in the heart of Lake Erie Wine Country, with 24+ estate and commercial wineries located in the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies, and extending roughly 40 miles from Silver Creek, New York to North East, Pennsylvania. Head west or east from the schoolhouse and you will hit wineries - we are very centrally located to the wine trail. We are 6 miles from the Barcelona Harbor (home to the first gas-lit lighthouse in the world) and the public beach on Lake Erie, and just 1.5 hours from the Buffalo Airport and Niagara Falls. There are several golf courses nearby as well as ski resorts, nature trails, numerous restaurants, shops, malls, museums, and a casino - most within a 30 mile radius. Enjoy some of the best fishing in the world with the Steelhead fishery found in Chautauqua Creek, or charter a boat for some Lake Erie fishing. There is so much to do, it is impossible to list it all here!

About Wendy Gollnitz Santilli

My husband and I purchased this property in 2005 with a vision of restoring it into something that we could enjoy ourselves, and share with others.

Wendy Gollnitz Santilli purchased this house in 2005

Why Wendy Gollnitz Santilli chose Chautauqua-Allegheny

We both grew up in the area and we love where we live! Knowing how much our friends from out of town love the area too, we felt we couldn't go wrong investing in our own back yard.

Anniversary Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful stay for our anniversary. The owner was very pleasant and gave us a lot of helpful information about places to visit and events going on in the area. The owner did an amazing job at restoring this old schoolhouse! All of the historical items decorating the place are very interesting to look at. The location of the schoolhouse is very convenient for traveling around the area. There are plenty of wineries, antique shops, local restaurants, and other places of interest to stop nearby. We highly recommend staying here. We are already talking about staying again next year.

Even nicer in person

  • 5 of 5

The weather was chilly and rainy but that didn't put a damper on our stay. In fact, it gave us all the more reason to enjoy our time along Lake Erie staying warm and cozy in the schoolhouse. The space is even more inviting in person than the pictures capture. Attention to detail is everywhere. An eye for decor and respect for the history of the space are obvious. The property is secluded enough to feel like a retreat, yet close enough to vineyards, nearby city centers, etc. to strike the perfect balance. We look forward to visiting again in warmer weather. Communication was terrific. We couldn't have asked for a more pleasant place to stay.

Beautifully renovated and decorated.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our weekend in the school house. It is truly beautiful and unique. Very clean, spacious and well equipped. The owners were very nice to deal with. Lots to do in immediate area with wineries, hiking, shopping and restaurants. I had a meeting at Chautauqua institute and it was less than 20 minute drive. We hope to return during different seasons to see all the beauty this area has to offer.

Can't wait to go back

  • 5 of 5

Visited the Schoolhouse for a get away... it was perfect to help two friends de-stress. The Schoolhouse has been renovated with taste, comfort, and charm. It doesn't take long to realize this home is loved.

Wendy was the best hostess; she provided information and recommendations both prior and during the visit. She was very responsive and answered questions.

The Schoolhouse is the perfect place to stay. We've stayed in lots of vacation rentals and this was one of the best. We had a great time checking out the local wineries and restaurants. The area is beautiful.

Surprisingly awesome!

  • 5 of 5

The moment we waked into the door, we were charmed and surrounded with restoration done explicitly, tasteful, in great detail by craftsmen, and all with a love for this schoolhouse. This is a very comfortable homey getaway, located a few minuets away from well know attractions. We will diffinately be back.
