About this property
Charming Renovated 1922 Bungalow in Heart of Yachats Village
This historic 1922 bungalow in the heart of Yachats village was restored from the foundation up, started in 2010 and completed in 2012. It's located at 362 W. 2nd Street and as the name says, everything is just a “stone’s throw” away. You’re just two doors down from Yachats’ State Park where you can whale watch, play frisbee, or wander down to the rocky marine preserve where tide pools and agates abound. Watch flocks of pelicans wheel by, as otters and seals peek from the surf. When the tide is low, you can walk all the way down to where the 804 trail meets the ocean at the Adobe, and from there it is just another short walk along the 804 to the sandy beach – seven miles of it.
Or, head into town, just two blocks away, where you’ll find restaurants like Heidi’s Homemade Italian and the Drift Inn or head down to the Wine Place for some fine wine tasting. Enjoy some of the many events held at the Yachats commons, or wander through the farmer’s market in front of the commons on a Sunday morning. If you have kids with you, you’ll find a playground just behind the commons with the best tree house on the coast. Just a block and a half from your doorway, you’ll find the Little Log Church, now a historical museum, or wander over to Toad Hall or Rain Dogs for some gift shopping. And for breakfast and the best locally roasted coffee, we recommend The Green Salmon, just two blocks from your doorstep.
If you want to stay inside, you’ll find retro charm and modern comfort. A wood-fired stove warms the living room, next to a sofa and two easy chairs and a bookcase full of everything from mysteries to classics. There’s even a piano for the musically inclined. One bedroom features a queen bed, the second, a king, four-poster bed, mood lighting and a faux fireplace for warmth and atmosphere. There's also a fold-out double in the den, so the house sleeps a total of six. The dining area seats 6 to 8, or head into the kitchen and enjoy the great view from the retro bar. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and entertaining, including a microwave. And beyond that, the den opens up on an incredible view through four large picture windows. Enjoy the sight of Cape Perpetua as the sun sinks toward the sea. Relax in the cozy sofa or armchair and watch TV or one of the many DVD’s on hand. There are plenty of board games and puzzles in the den as well. The bathroom is also fully remodeled with a roomy, tiled shower and bath tub (and a great shower head!).
This little gem of a house is a unique property. The historic Yachats village neighborhood comprises just a few square blocks, and this is one of the few remaining original bungalows restored to its former glory. Unlike many properties, no driving is required once you park your car! It’s great for a couple seeking a romantic weekend close to everything, for a family with kids looking for some easy, family fun, or two couples enjoying a joint vacation. It sleeps four comfortably in the first bedroom, two in the den, and two in the second bedroom (you can fight over who gets the king-sized bed). Whatever your requirements, give Stones Throw Bungalow a try, and we promise you’ll enjoy your stay.

Very clean, well maintained house with lots of character (in a great way) in an incredible location. We stayed are 2 nights on a road trip of the Oregon Coast and we would gladly stay here again. Both the house and the area were just what we were looking for on our trip.
Had a wonderful 4 day stay in Yachats. House itself and location was great. Quiet neighborhood, easy to get to the ocean and local businesses. Highly recommend.
Great house super close to the coast. Good food and coffee in town. Had a great time exploring the beach and watching seals at the river's mouth. Comfy beds and a stocked kitchen.
Staying in this cute, clean house so close to town and beach makes hiking and exploring Yachats so fun and convenient! It's the second time we've stayed here with family. We cooked full meals in the well-stocked kitchen and enjoyed breakfast on the back deck. We visited Cape Perpetua and hiked up to the old CCC built stone structure with fantastic ocean views.I'm sure we'll be back again and again when we come to Yachats.
Wonderful bungalow near the park, the rocks and the 804 trail. This home is well maintained and within walking distance of almost the whole town. We really enjoyed our weeks stay here.

We really loved our stay. The cottage was cozy and spotless and very comfortable. It had all the kitchen tools we needed and in intuitive places. Plenty of hot water and the bright, sunroom was a joy every day. The 20’s decor was so cool. I felt like i was at my grandmother’s cottage.

The cabin was nice and clean, with 2 good sized bedrooms and a nice sunroom. Very good location, just a stroll to "downtown" Yachats as well as the ocean (1/2 block away). House was in good condition (everything working, etc.) - the "biggest" issues were things like no shampoo/conditioner/body soap available (they had hand soap, but we ended up buying a bar of soap), no paper towels put out, limited pots/pans to cook with (and no condiments, excluding salt). The only other complaint was the requirement to wash and put in the dryer before leaving the used linens. Given 2 beds and towels/kitchen towels for 3 people, meant we had to do 2 loads of laundry in the morning before we left, which took about 2 hours just for the washer loads to finish. Luckily, we had the time to spare.

Hello! Thanks for all the great feedback -- glad you enjoyed your stay :) Regarding the provisions, we do notify people in the guest letter about what is provided so they can prepare ("We supply dish soap, laundry soap, hand soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, and there is a cabinet with salt, sugar etc. -- non-perishables guests have left.") The non-perishable food and spice items come and go depending on what guests leave and use. I will definitely tell our cleaner that paper towels were not left out for you -- she is charged with making sure those are on the counter. I'm a little confused about the insufficient pots and pans, though -- with the three cast iron pans and the full set of stainless plans and lids, I would think there would be too many, not too few, lol! Lastly, we do appreciate your complaint about having start the laundry (which means a load can be left drying, but you're right, it has to be the last load). We do this to keep cleaning costs down for our guests. We have a local cleaner who has been with us for 15 years, and we pay her well. But if she had to wait around for full loads to finish, we'd be passing on a significantly higher cleaning fee to our guests. Again, we tell guests before they arrive about the laundry expectation, and if a guest really objected, I suppose we'd be happy to charge more on a case by case basis for the cleaner to do the laundry as well. Thanks for your feedback and for being respectful guests, and we wish you happy travels.
Our best,
Julie and Johnny

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
Okay stay but was disappointed.
Based on the reviews I had my her higher expectations for this stay.
Property was dirty (mostly dusty) but also stains on extra mattress and fold out couch.
Grime/mold on shower doors.
No shampoo and no bath soap.
Lots of ants.
French press was old and needs to be replaced or just discarded.
Sofa bed was very uncomfortable.
The location was great! The house and floor plan is very comfortable, too bad they are falling down on maintenance…..

Hi David! Wow -- this is a late reply to your review. I seem to remember that we discussed your concerns, but if not, thank you so much for sharing your experience. It's been a few years now, and we have done a fair amount of work to tune up the place. Thanks for your honesty, and if you ever want to stay again, you can tell us how we did :)

Just Wish We'd had More Time Here!
Our family of 7 adults spent two nights here and we could not have been more pleased. First, the communications from the owners, Julie and John, and the housecleaner on the day we arrived, made us feel welcome and confident. The house is everything the other reviewers say it is: clean, cozy, comfortable, spacious. The kitchen and utility room (with a nice, deep sink of its own) are well supplied, beds very comfortable, sun room bright and inviting. We brought a small bbq grill and cooked outside on the deck as well as in the kitchen... never got around to using the nice big firepit in the back yard, although it would have been great for s'mores. (That deck is really a plus -- big, sunny, relaxing.) The dining table was great, not just for meals but also for playing table games after dinner. It may go without saying that one bathroom for 7-8 adults could cause some inconvenience, but the public restroom at the waterfront park is a minute's walk away, and it's clean too! Truly, Stone's Throw Bungalow is the PERFECT place to start each day and, after hiking and tidepooling in the Cape Perpetual area and picking up groceries at C&K Market, to then regather for an evening of cooking and activities. It was HOME for us, and we are all grateful!
I enjoyed it by myself for 7 days. There was so much to do. The folks in town were friendly and helpful. My adult daughter, son in law & son joined me for 2 days and we loved it.
It is a cozy, quirky coastal cottage that brought back many memories of living on another coast. Do bring slippers with hard soles as the floor stays cold for awhile. It was so nice to have someone playing a piano again, what a special treat. Also, I left hearing aids there and they were kind enough to ship them to me.!!!!!! Great trip after Covid.
We loved staying at the house in Yachats. We love the area so it was great to find such a lovely house with reasonable rates where we could relax and enjoy the area.
The house has a great location, just a couple minutes' walk from the beach and the tide pools, as well as a couple minutes in the other direction to visit town. Several other great beach areas are within 15 minutes driving.
The house itself is nice. The kitchen has everything you might need. There is a washer and dryer for laundry. We didn't have any complaints about the beds. The WiFi is decent. The water stays warm even with a couple of people showering in succession. I would stay here again without any misgivings.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the house. It’s been well remodeled, the location is fantastic and it has plenty of pans, mugs, utensils and even a slow cooker, but a few things kept me from giving it 5 stars.
There was no oil or salt so if you want to cook at all, bring that stuff with you. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable, we found pizza in the couch right after we sat on it for the first time and there’s the normal early checkout of 10 since covid, but they want you to do laundry.
If both beds are used that means multiple loads of laundry. As someone who’s not a morning person I had to wake up early to make sure we had time to wash and dry the towels and sheets.
I loved the town of Yahats and the house, but probably wouldn’t stay again until 11 or later checkouts are then norm again.
Enjoyed the would stove, playing piano and games and snuggling in for a good read. Cooking together and going for windy walks were additional pleasures. A cozy bungalow in a convenient location!
We fell in love with Yachats years ago and knew when we found this unique, historic bungalow that it was ideal for restoration. Yachats is a special village, like a step back into simpler times. We've always loved the natural beauty, but what we learned after spending time in Yachats is just how wonderful the community is. It's a tight knit community filled with people who care and get involved. We hope you find it to be as special as we have.
What makes this property unique
Historic character coupled with modern comfort and attention to detail. Materials and design were selected to harken back to the 40s and 50s. Very few vacation rentals are situated in this historic neighborhood, so close to everything. We've also retained the beach bungalow style.
