The house was great, location was amazing. My problem was the smell, I guess from the people staying there before us. It just smelled like a seafood boil restaurant. And the sheets did not look very clean on one of the beds. Loved that they had a gate on the patio that way my dog wouldn't run off. Had lots of accessories in the kitchen for cooking and storage. I loved the beach was available only a few steps away.
We loved our time at Pelican Watch. The house had beautiful views and all the essentials we needed. We loved being on the bay side but still being super close to walk to the gulf side. It was quiet and peaceful for the duration of our stay. The beds were comfortable and the outdoor showers were great for rinsing off after a day at the beach. We would definitely stay here again.
This property is perfect for pet parents. But it advertised as a 4 bedroom and it is only 3. the 4th bedroom is a reading nook with a crib in it. Luckily we are locals and my brother drove home every night. If it had been a true 4th bedroom we could have used our blow up mattress which was our extension. However there was no room for that. The internet company is terrible so no luck with watching tv at night in the rooms. Also no tv on rainy days. The thermostat is also on WiFi and shut off during our unloading of the vehicles so we couldn’t escape the heat. They do make it a very personal stay with the door code and the small touches. There is no space for groceries if you enjoy cooking. The guest bed (not master or children’s room) is only comfy in the center, the sides droop and make it very uncomfortable. Overall the owners were very responsive and easy to communicate with and even worked around our plans to try to improve the internet for future guests. It is a great house with an awesome host it just did not fit our family.

Thank you for staying at Pelican Watch. I'm sorry you felt that our home was not satisfactory. The crib room can support a twin bed or bunk bed; however, we made the choice to furnish it as a quiet crib room for families who are traveling with babies or toddlers. The description of our home lists the beds available. We have addressed the Wi-Fi. A new router replaced the older one. We will also be switching over to Starlink this winter. Our HVAC system will shut off after there is a discrepancy between the setting and the indoor temperature. Often families will leave the doors or windows open. However, that causes condensation in the ductwork which can lead to mold. For example, if the HVAC is set at 65, but the indoor temp is 78, while the outdoor temp is 95, the system shuts off until all doors and windows are closed. There is a large pantry in the hallway with two large open shelves specifically for our guests to store groceries. Sometimes, during the busy season, guests may start to fill the shelves with pots and pans instead of putting them in the kitchen cabinets, but they should be open. Finally, we have a new mattress set for the Queen bedroom, waiting for this fall when we can bring it to Pelican Watch. I am grateful that you mentioned our willingness to work with our guests, and that we include many personal touches. Pelican Watch is a beautiful home. We enjoy hosting and look at our guests as visiting friends. Thank you for your review and Safe Travels!
We spent a week at Pelican Watch on Dauphin Island and had an awesome time. The house was clean, comfy, and stocked with everything we needed, plus the private bayside beach access was perfect for quiet mornings by the water. We packed in plenty of fun — checked out Fort Gaines, grabbed some seriously good pizza from Pirates Pizza, took the ferry to Fort Morgan and drove over to Orange Beach, and went on a deep sea fishing trip at Captain Mike’s, which made for an unforgettable day on the water.Evenings were super relaxing with beautiful sunsets and a great outdoor seating area to wind down. The hosts, Mike and Susan, were easy to communicate with, and check‑in was no hassle at all. Pelican Watch made for a laid‑back, memorable getaway we’d definitely recommend.

About the host

Welcome to Pelican Watch!
We are Mike and Susan, your hosts. We would like to thank you for visiting our site and hope you choose Pelican Watch to be your vacation home. We are relatively new owners, and we love our house. We have four grown kids and one grand baby. Our family has always cherished our vacations at the beach and owning a beach home has been a dream of ours for years. Now that we have one, we have lots of plans for it! It is an honor for us to provide a well-appointed and relaxing vacation home where your family can make the memories that last a lifetime. We hope you enjoy the surf, sand, and sun on Dauphin Island!
Why they chose this property
Pelican Watch sits on the Mississippi Sound side of the island. The clear water of the sound is right out the back door, and it provides a quiet, private beach experience. The water laps on the shore and the sand slopes gently out into the water. It's perfect for families with littles!
For those who enjoy boating or fishing, the shallow water allows for boats to be anchored right offshore. If your family enjoys kayaking or paddle boarding, this is the place for you. It's also the perfect location for quiet sunset walks.
If your family enjoys the waves of the Gulf of America, it's an easy four-minute walk to the Sehoy Street beach access. Load up the cart or carry your chairs to the sugar white sands. To go to the West End public beach, it's only a 1.5-mile drive, perfect for biking or golf cart rentals!
What makes this property unique
Pelican Watch is not just a vacation rental house; it's our vacation home. When you walk in the door, you are made to feel like a part of our family visiting the family beach house. We provide lots of towels, beach towels, pet sheets and towels, beach chairs, and a beach cart. The views of the Mississippi Sound are beautiful. We love to sit and watch the sail boats, fishing boats, and occasional barge. A sharp eye can sometimes spot a dolphin or two. In the evening, we enjoy watching the sun set and, as the darkness falls, see the twinkling lights across the sound. Pelican Watch has a way of making all our guests feel relaxed and refreshed.
