Lakeside Ferns is our family's lakefront vacation home, and we’ve been sharing with other families on Vrbo/HomeAway since July 2015. Add your family’s happy memories here in East Hampton, CT!
WHY WE LOVE LAKESIDE FERNS: ** The 50 feet of private frontage on Lake Pocotopaug with a lakeside covered patio and Solostove fire pit. We provide plenty of water toys, too, including a canoe, a stand-up paddleboard (on request), sit-on-top kayaks, life vests and beach towels.
** Because this is also our personal vacation home, we’ve made it as comfortable and clean as possible. We also equipped and stocked it with family-friendly goodies like WiFi, Netflix, Keurig coffee machine (+ pods), outdoor-safe tumblers for cool drinks by the lake, Igloo coolers, charcoal and gas grills, even a jogging stroller (please request at booking)! ** Our home is an allergen-reduced environment, which means: Regular air filter maintenance Allergen-reducing protectors on all mattresses, box springs and pillows. (These also protect against bed bugs and dust mites.) All linens are laundered in hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly, non-toxic soap (Charlie’s). Two Himalayan salt lamps, which may help to reduce allergy and asthma symptoms. ** Every bed is a King-size bed (3 total). The bunk beds have been replaced with a daybed and trundle.

End a day of antiquing at The Shops at Marlborough Barn with some comfort food from Sadler's Ordinary. Nearby Belltown Hill Orchards is the place to pick seasonal produce like apples, blueberries, cherries, and peaches.
We’re within 35 miles of Bradley International airport, Glastonbury (11 mi.), Hartford (20 mi.), and Middleton (9 mi.).
Located at the street level, there is a garage apartment where the caretaker of the property resides. The caretaker does not access the home, driveway or lakeside yard during guests stays. Please note our trash service pickup is early morning Wednesday as is our landscape service. You will see the caretaker removing and returning trash and recycle cans from the garage parking area to the street and back. The lawn service requires all outside furniture and watercraft to be put away as found at check in so they can mow on Wednesday mornings. Both trash pick up and lawn service days are subject to change without notice.
Minimum age requirements and maximum occupancy of 8
Events (house parties, reunions or weddings), pets and smoking are not permitted.
PLEASE READ: Why is the final rate higher than the rate listed? We use variable rates so that we don’t exclude smaller groups. If I set just one flat rate, it would likely be too expensive for a couple or a small family—and a total steal for a group of 8! So the rate increases along with the number of guests.
If you divide the total rate by the number of guests, you’ll find the per-night fee per guest is a value for the experience you receive at Lakeside Ferns!

Another great stay at Lakeside Ferns. This house is the most fully appointed house we've ever stayed in - from the fully equipped kitchen, to the nice bed linens and comfy family room. And the view! The host is very easy to reach and pleasant to deal with.
Our second trip back and it was great!! Beautiful lakefront house. Very comfortable beds with a fully stocked kitchen. Plenty of water toys to enjoy the lake with. Marian is a gracious host and very helpful.
The property was gorgeous with all comforts provided. Marian was a great host - accommodating, responsive and professional. We would love to stay here again and highly recommended it to those considering it.

Ami, thank you for your stay. We hope to host you again someday, maybe in a warmer season when you can enjoy the lake! Safe travels in 2025.
Marian accepted our last-minute reservation and went above & beyond to ensure my family had everything we needed. The place is immaculate, clean, cozy, and well stocked. Beautiful home!
Perfect family trip for my husband’s 70th birthday
Clean, very well-supplied property on a beautiful lake. Lovely, responsive host. Three comfortable king-size beds ideal for us five adults We had great weather in which to make excellent use of the canoe, three kayaks, and paddle board, to swim, to read and relax on the back porch, and to just really enjoy our time together.
This is our third holiday stay here. It is easily the most fully equipped rental we have ever stayed at - the kitchen has everything you could want to cook and serve meals, the bed linens and towels are of very good quality, and little details like extra chargers, binoculars, and firewood are thought of and provided. On top of that, it is exceptionally clean. Our family loves staying here.
This house is such a fantastic find! It's a beautiful spot on the lake and has all the amenities. Easy check in and out. Super comfortable bed, amazing firepit (they even had stuff for smores). I highly recommend - you will not be disappointed!
The house is clean, charming and the lake views are magnificent! The master bedroom is very beautiful with majestic lake views. We had a very enjoyable weekend and the host was available and helpful!
My family and I had a lovely stay at the home, location was perfect! A lot of cozy and cute restaurants around the area. We took the kayaks out and that was fun! The house was clean and very spacious. The host was very responsive and provided accurate description of property. We highly recommend it!
This house was in the perfect location and had everything we needed for a 3 night stay. Marian, the host, was very accommodating and responsive to all our needs. The bedrooms were spacious, and the availability of boating equipment was a big plus! We wouldn’t hesitate to visit again!
We were in town for a family wedding and this house was perfect for our group. Well equipped and despite the cooler weather we enjoyed kayaking and canoeing on the lake. The fire pit was a nice bonus!
The host is the best! We loved our welcome s’mores! This was our second stay and look forward to our next one. The house is spotless and there are so many little touches that make you feel welcome.
We rented this place for overflow guests for our family reunion. Our family members didn’t spend much time there, since the main action was down the street, but they loved the view and reported that the beds were very comfortable. We live down the street from this VRBO location and we love Lake Pocotopaug!

Thank you Linda for your feedback. I hope you and your extended family enjoyed your time at the lake.
This is by far the most well equipped VRBO property we've ever used - from the kitchen with enough items to prepare a meal for 16+ to the bedrooms (3 kings!) and baths. We love to lounge in the cozy family room with its beautiful lake views and wood fireplace. We hope to go back again in the summer to enjoy the lake itself.

Very impressive!
The pictures were beautiful, but the house surpassed them, very well appointed. My husband surprised me with a Valentine's getaway and the spa like bathroom was just the thing. Very romantic and the view from my breakfast in bed was outstanding. Highly impressed with Marian and her team. Best home away stay to date, and we have done many.

Thank you for recognizing the efforts of my team members. Together, we strive to offer all guests a value added experience. Glad to hear your romantic getaway was pleasant. Safe travels wherever life takes you! - Marian
Our visit was center around Trinity College in Hartford. My grandson was playing his first college lacrosse game and parents and grandparents were visiting from Virginia and attended the game. This turned out to be a wonderful location with all the accommodations to make it a mini vacation for the weekend. We loved the house and lake and plan to come back for many more stays in the next four years!

About the host
Hosted by Marian
Greetings Travelers! I'm Marian, mother to 4 active boys ranging in age from 8-17 yrs old. We reside in a suburb of Austin, TX where I keep busy with my sons' football, basketball, baseball and school activities. "Me time" revolves around living the vacation life. Whether it is working on my own vacation home business, consulting other vacation home owners on generating income through short term rentals or helping clients purchase their dream vacation home, I LOVE everything about vacation homes.
I'm a life long collector of miniatures and dollhouses. As an adult, I have trained in glass blowing and lampwork at Wheaton Arts in Millville, NJ. Each summer I become a HomeAway traveler when I visit Tigard, OR to glass blow at Live Laugh Love Art studio. I have a green thumb for growing a variety of ferns in my Texas home. Both owls and cardinals have a special meaning to my family. I've incorporated a little of each of these hobbies into the decor at Lakeside Ferns.
Prior to opening Lakeside Ferns to HomeAway families, my family would evacuate Austin, Texas each May - August for cooler weather on Lake Pocotopaug. We made many memories each summer biking, boating, tubing and jet skiing on the water. For my sons, the memories they made with their dad over each year's 3 month vacation will stay with them forever.
Why they chose this property
Lakeside Ferns became a vacation home as the result of the sudden and unexpected loss of my husband Eric in the fall of 2014. In an effort to delay any decision on what to do with our vacation home, I decided to share our beloved retreat with other families. What started out as a way to cover property taxes soon became the best business adventure I have ever experienced.
Over the past two years I have had the pleasure of hosting the most wonderful guests ranging from Wesleyan University parents, wedding attendees, corporate relocation families, business travelers, girls' weekends, romantic getaways, and the usual family vacations. I appreciate the guests who have shared their reasons for travel being due to a loved one's illness or loss. My heart goes out to these travelers who I know in their time of sadness and grief can take comfort being together in a space that feels like home.
What I have come to learn as a result of loss is that the time we take to be together is what matters in life. My sons will not likely remember the gifts their dad gave them for birthdays or holidays. I know they will remember the days spent laying on dad's chest while rocking in the hammock. The memories my boys have with their dad at the lake are what remain. I am grateful for the time we took out of our busy lives in Texas to enjoy our family while at Lake Pocotopaug.
It has been my goal to provide a consistent vacation home experience in an environment which is clean, comfortable, safe and welcoming. It is my hope that this home allows guests of all ages to rest, relax and enjoy spending time with each other. Regardless of guests' reason for travel, I want every guest to connect with each other and take home what matters in life, experiences with each other.
What makes this property unique
Lakeside Ferns is not an investment property. It is a home, it is my family's vacation home which we enjoy through out the year.
Teamwork has enabled Lakeside Ferns to provide travelers with a top notch experience. Living in Texas, I cannot be there for the day to day operations. Thanks to our original caretaker, Mark and current caretaker, Robert, maintenance of the home, yard, and and water equipment keeps the property running smoothly and safely. The housekeeping crew deserve much credit for making the inside of the home clean, safe and well stocked with all of the comforts of home. I have been fortunate to find a partners who share my vision for this business.
