Why Marc and Jenniffer chose Kiwanda Shores
We purchased our home in 2004 so our kids would be able to experience the beauty of the beach and surfing... and particularly the beauty of this spot, since it's such a classic beach town.

Need a new house keeper and some basic maintenance.
My family and I stayed at the Kiwanda cabana for a weekend over spring break.
We were so excited to get away and have a relaxing weekend!
Upon arriving I noticed that there were chip crumbs in the garbage cabinet next to the trash can. Not a super big deal, but a little gross.
The kids loved the bunk bed room and settled in easily. We went to the local market to get groceries and whatnot. When we came back to cook dinner, I found what looked like a crumpled up donuts in the utensil drawer..which was gross. I messaged the owners, and they were really nice and responded quickly with an apology. I just didn't want to get charged extra for having that mess in there.
My husband noticed that the cadet heaters in the front main room did not work, so we tried to start a fire with the logs that were in the fireplace. BIG mistake..the house got smokey quickly. So we let the little fire go out, and opened the slider door to air out the room. Pretty frustrating, it was even colder in there at this point.
We bundled up and made the best of it. I was thankful that there was a DVD player, because we could not get the cable TV to work, it kept saying that the channels we chose were not included in the cable package...which was every single channel we tried.
**On that same note..there was no remote in the master bedroom for the cable box**
The next day we enjoyed the house and had a great time! It is close to the beach and is in a nice neighborhood. The house has the basics that you need for a nice stay. It just needs some maintenance..heaters, chimney cleaning, a good dusting, a new mattress in the master (that thing is HARD AS A ROCK!)..etc.
Lastly..back to the house keeping.. It did not appear that the house keeper did a very thorough job.
*The floor in the kitchen was sticky, I cleaned it with paper towels and it was filthy.
*We quickly discovered that the master bedroom comforter was soiled with something pretty gross..thank goodness there were spare blankets!..if only I could add pictures!
*Things were pretty dusty.
*There was one roll of toilet paper in the entire bathroom...one roll..for a family for an entire weekend.
*It would be good to have someone go through the spice cupboard and tidy it at least a little and wipe things down.
Overall, this home is real cute and has great potential. But we will not be staying here again in the future. The owners were great with communication and were as nice as can be, but that's just not enough in this case
Thanks for the heads up, it is appreciated.
Until yours we have only received 4-star and 5-star reviews, over the past 6 years, so this is concerning on our part as well.
We are glad your kids enjoyed the bunk room. Ours find it nice too.
We made a punch list of the items you mentioned for us to tend to, as until you no one mentioned the heaters or fireplace not working, neither this past winter or prior. But things do fail of course and if anything needs attention it will be addressed. And apparently our housekeeper missed some items inside the drawers and cabinets for which we apologize.
I can’t speak for the wood that was left in the fireplace by a prior guest, but it sounds like it was wet/green wood, and not properly dried and ready for burning. Assuming the damper was open. And of course we will check the flue and if a cleaning is due that will be done.
Per our vacation rental agreement we only provide “basic channels” so folks know that if they want the deluxe cable TV package ours is not a good fit. Starting at Channel no. 2 we have all the basic Portland news channels, ESPN, cartoon, some movie channels, etc., which for the coast is plenty -- and two new flat screens. We also provide the number for the cable company just in case there is an issue on their end. We’ll have to check for the master bedroom remote. It should be on top of the cable box but sometimes the remote does get lost. Hopefully it will reappear when we check, if not we’ll get another one.
Great to hear that the next day you enjoyed the house and had a great time! It is close to the beach and in a nice neighborhood. And we try to keep it stocked with the basics needed for a nice stay.
Rock hard mattress in the master? Maybe. It’s a top quality mattress and if we could get the same one at home we would. Our June 29, 2015, guest, Jodi P., wrote “comfortable beds,” but Amy W., July 21, 2015, agreed with you, yet Tim M., June 1, 2017, loves our mattress: “Comfy and clean, this place has one of the most comfortable master beds we have slept on in a vacation rental.”
Anyhow, glad you thought our home is real cute and at least has great potential and that we were great with communication and were as nice as can be. We want our guests to tell us when there are problems, otherwise we might not know and can’t make it right. Thanks again for staying at our vacation home. And thanks even more for your feedback.
Great spot for a few days away
Nice little house with all the amenities one would need.
Quaint and charming!
Perfect for a family getaway! The Oregon coast never fails in it's beauty and this house is perfectly located to enjoy it - rain or shine!
Everything we needed!
Nice little house. Our little one loved the bunk beds!
The property had everything we needed. Perfect time at the beach.
Beautiful cabin in a great location.
We stayed at the cabana for three nights. The weather was beautiful, a five minute walk and your on the beach! Walking distance to a grocery store, a cafe with great coffee drinks, a pizza place and of course, Pelican Brewing Company. The house is well appointed, everything you need to cook your own meals and plenty of room to feed everyone. For a quiet, uncrowded beach, this is the place to be and the Kiwanda Cabana is the place to stay.
Tidepools, Sand dunes, Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP), Beach! Beach! Beach!
