House....two bedrooms...each room has a double bed and is $135 a night
nestled amongst the pines and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, on the high road to Taos, lies the village of Truchas. The Village was founded in the year 1754 by the King of Spain who granted land to several families (of which many still remain). There are numerous artisans that live and work in the village. Weavers, potters, sculptors, painters, wood carvers, furniture makers, contemporary and traditional. We have many galleries and open studios for you to explore. I have two bedrooms each with wireless internet, the larger of the two has a kiva fireplace and a wood burning stove. Both rooms have a flat screen TV. A small library with internet access (where I serve coffee, tea, fresh juice and homemade biscuits and jams) also has a wood burning stove for those chilly winter mornings. Down comforters and pillows are in both rooms. A shared bathroom with new mexican tiles around the shower and sink areas.WE DO NOT OFFER KITCHEN FACILITIES, there is a refrigerator, microwave and an outdoor barbecue for your use. Restaurants are within a ten to twenty minute drive. Pets allowed (if agreeable with my pets) Laundry facilities are available. Hiking and Biking out the front door. And for those who fish, ski, golf or horse back ride, you can find all of that and much more within a twenty mile range. Santa Fe is 45 minutes south, Ojo Caliente Hot Springs 45 minutes West and Taos one hour north. If you are a writer, an artist or someone who just enjoys the clean mountain air and the beauty that surrounds you, you will find paradise in our home and the magic of Truchas and Northern New Mexico.

Down to Earth at the Top of the World
For most of us, the gateway to northern New Mexico is probably Santa Fe or Taos, but the name of Lorey’s B&B seems to suggest that the tiny village of Truchas should also be considered. We heartily agree. Truchas is located midway between Santa Fe and Taos, and being situated at a high elevation (8000 ft / 2500 m) with breathtaking views of valleys to the south and mountains to the north, it would be an excellent gateway. Ours this time was Santa Fe (two nights in town), and we made a day trip to Taos between our two nights at Lorey’s, but staying first in Truchas, or maybe even exclusively in Truchas, would be an impressive way to experience northern New Mexico, especially for the first-time visitor. Lorey, a long-time Truchas resident, was a wonderful host, the accommodations were perfect (loved the wood stove in winter), and the breakfasts of homemade muffins with fresh fruit and yoghurt, coffee, were delicious, not to mention a bottle of wine on arrival! I did stay once in Truchas 12 years ago, at a different place, and while Santa Fe and Taos have grown since then (try to arrive in Taos in the morning or you’ll get stuck in traffic!), Truchas has hardly changed at all. We happily recommend Lorey’s Northern New Mexico Gateway. (Oops, was that NNM Getaway?? Oh well! My review still stands…) If you would like to read some history of New Mexico before coming, you might like "New Mexico: An Interpretive History" by Marc Simmons (recommended to me by the Brodsky Bookshop in Taos).
it was my pleasure to have you and Madoka stay with me....i only would have liked it to be longer....many untold stories.
my best to you both, lorey
A true gem
My husband and I had a wonderful stay. The property has all of the comforts of home. Wonderful breakfast of homemade muffins, berries and yogurt. I thought I lost a bracelet and Lorey found it and mailed it to me. We will most definitely return again for a longer stay.
charming settings, very peaceful, a delight
charming little get away, lorey was a absolute delight and funny, the setting is very peaceful and tranquil, the accommodations where wonderful. i would highly recommend this to anyone looking to step out of the busy world and enjoy themselves, especially couples

An Adventure in Tranquility
Northern New Mexico Getaway is perfectly named. New Mexico is a land of beautiful and varied landscapes but this is the only area where I’ve found absolute tranquility and magnificence at the same time. The town of Truchas, a Spanish land grant village, is less than an hour north of Santa Fe, the site of Robert Redford’s 1988 “The Milagro Beanfield War,” and easily passed by if you are on the High Road to Taos. All of these elements make it an intriguing and extraordinarily peaceful destination. Once you turn south off the main road, you are “on retreat.” There are unimaginable vistas and an absolute quiet I have only known at Buddhist retreats. It is so aptly named, a “getaway.”
Our host, Lorey, provided us with all the amenities we could have asked for. Her home is lovely and the perfect place from which to take long walks through the striking landscape. Her knowledge and stories of the area are fascinating, and her hospitality was both enthusiastic and comforting. And we were pleased to learn of the new restaurant in town. After all our needs were taken care of by her, the sunset out one window and the full moon rising out the other did the rest.
Northern New Mexico Beauty
We were attending a memorial service in Truchas and I found Lorey's place which was just up the road. It was a bit cool for an April day when we arrived, and Lorey had a fire warming the rental. Her place is very comfortable and inviting. She had a bottle of wine awaiting us and when we let her know we wanted to use the grill in the evening she got it ready so all we had to do was strike a match. In the morning she had a delicious breakfast of muffins, yogurt, fresh berries and coffee awaiting us. I highly recommend that if your are looking for a place to get away and relax, Lorey's rental is the place!! Thanks Lorey!!
Lovely honeymoon suite!
Cozy, charming, clean, lovely, and wonderful cherry muffins! We were absolutely delighted with our stay, and will be back when we need a staycation. Thanks, Lorey!
