History, shopping, and beer? Let's get on down to Georgetown
Home of the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas, Downtown Georgetown is a real treat to visit. Aside from its packed calendar of festivals and events, it's just as nice to potter around the independent shops, museums, and art galleries of historic Downtown. Sample some local cuisine, or the booze and brews from 1 of the microbreweries or wineries Georgetown is famous for. Fancy escaping the heat of the town? Then cool off in the Blue Hole, a vast, attractive lagoon on the South San Gabriel River.
By George, it's hot, hot, hot in Texas
Georgetown is a booming year-round destination. Like the rest of Central Texas, it benefits from a humid subtropical climate, with hot and sticky summers when the mercury booms at 90-100 degrees. Even during the short, mild winters, Georgetown can see temperatures reach a balmy 60 degrees. The summer is largely dry, but the rain tends to drench the city throughout fall, so pack an umbrella. As a university town, Georgetown vacation rentals get snapped up all through the year, but especially in spring and summer, so for the widest choice visit in fall and winter.
Wild thing, you make my heart sing (like a bird)
Located 30 miles north of Austin, Georgetown is a buzzing small city famous for its old university. To find the best hiking trails, escape the city and head 30 miles east to Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. Surrounded by the lush lands of Texas Hill Country, the Balcones Canyonlands stretch across 23,000 acres. It has 7 miles of marked hiking trails and sweeping views of lush wildflower-strewn Texas terrain. It's a magnet for birdwatchers, who come to spot some of Texas' rarest feathered residents. If you're lucky, you may spot the endangered golden-cheeked warbler or the black-capped vireo.
