Cozy beachfront house!

We stayed in this house for a week and loved it! It had more of a rustic cabin feel, which we were fine with. We loved the outdoor private shower and used this a lot when coming in from the beach. We also loved the second floor balcony and were out there all the time! Loved listening to the ocean waves from there. The kitchen had all necessary amenities and stocked with pots and pans, and things needed for cooking. We appreciated the very short walk to the beach directly from the deck. It was also a less crowded area of the beach too. This house was plenty big for our party of seven and was exactly what we were looking for!

Good Location

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It was a great location. The pictures of the living space don't match what it looks like, we had no clue what to do during the hurricane, only 1 TV worked in the living room that was way too small. Cable was out in bedroom, no tv in double bed room, and roku didn't work in other bedroom, great outdoor shower, although near a couple larger condos it was quiet and peaceful. The mattresses were not comfortable at all. my son slept on the couch and we woke up sore every morning. It was worth it overall being on the beach, but when expectations of prior rentals are high it was a little disappointing we didn't have space for everyone to be in one room when photos show this big space when it was tiny tiny. If their wasn't a hurricane the living room space wouldn't have been as important.

spectacular views with old world craftsmanship

I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved this house. We stayed for 5 weeks and are coming back! It was perfect for our 5 week stay with various family and friends coming down for a visit. The top deck is awesome for watching the ocean and hearing the waves. The only issue is the rental company which told me I would have to pay to have them come clean mid rental. we paid the same rate every week as the weekly rentals and should have been allowed at least one cleaning. Not stopping us from coming back though!!! So refreshing that this little gem remains unchanged except for modern updates!

Inaccurate listing & uncomfortably humid

I paid for and trusted that there would be 2.5 bathrooms enclosed in the main house for me and my children to comfortably shower and spread out. The second full bath was not connected to the main house and required us to unlock a separate door under the house. It was uncomfortable, inconvenient and unsafe for my kids and I to be apart in essentially two different homes. Four people had to share 1 shower for the week. The house is very old and is uncomfortably humid even when the temperature is only reaching lower 80s. A rate adjustment was not made by the owner when requested.

I Survived

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house has charm and it is amazing. There is a few small issues. One being the walkway to the beach. The first two pictures are not what we had. If you are older and disabled getting to the top is like facing the sands of Iwo Jima. The second thing is the roach problem. It’s great on a rainy day bringing the family together tryin to get them little suckers.

Ocean front

Other than the house being a little dated ( could definitely use some remodeling, paint , updated decor etc.,) one of the rooms was unusable due to water damage so we had to use air mattresses on the screened in porch ( waking up to the sound of the crashing waves was a plus) and it was dirty when we checked in and the lights underneath did not work so when we went on the beach at night to fish we couldn’t see under there to wash our feet when we cane back! It was over all an ok rental considering. It is on the ocean front with it’s on beach access and it could really use some stairs to help climbing the sand hill to get back up to the walk way and house. Also the bushes at the end of the driveway make it hard to see when pulling out! I would definitely recommend.

Don’t go there!

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The cottage The Sea Chanty was in a wonderful place but the house has issues It leaked when raining which who knows for how long the leaked has been letting water into the carpeted house All three floors smelled of mold . the ground floor bedroom if you can call it that was unusable because of the rain leaks and the air conditioning also was dripping water onto the bed which had the wall panels wrapped and and also smelling moldy with blackish mold on the walls The ceiling was coming apart with the water pouring through during the rains .We had cockroaches on the kitchen floor on several occasions stepped on a few of them .The carpet in the den and dinning room was damp from the leaks and smelled .I was very disappointed with the condition of the house .The outside under the cottage was not clean ,old floats,toys and beer cans had not been clean up from the previous guest .Sorry to say I can not recommend this cottage to anyone

Quaint Rustic home with great beach access

Renter Beware if concerned with Mice & Roaches

We decided to visit the area at the last minute, and prefer to stay on the beach, so our options were limited. Location was acceptable. It is pricey for the condition of the cottage. The room layout of the cottage was unusual. Downstairs bedroom / bath was basically a utility room with Washer & drier. The upstairs bedroom warmer than rest of the cottage. Unfortunately we saw several roaches each day. Also mice were eating into our food containers, so we kept everything in the refrigerator. We will plan future trips more in advance for better availability options.

Not great especially for price

Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The only reason they’re getting away with charging this price is because it’s essentially on the beach. The cottage is OLD AND OUTDATED. it was built in the 30’s and I don’t think it’s been updated since. Lots of bugs. The bedroom on the bottom floor wasn’t even cleaned. There are two bedrooms upstairs and you have to duck your head to get up the stairs, it’s almost like they converted an attic to bedrooms. Extremely hot upstairs. Also when you’re on the beach it’s difficult to find the access back to the house. I wouldn’t recommend unless this was your last resort.

Cozy Sea Chanty

This property is in a very convenient location. It is very charming with cute architecture and rooms. It is not quote updated, but that would ruin it! So it's okay. It is very neat and tidy. And well taken care of. We had a great stay! Right on the ocean.

Beautiful house , relaxing view

Beautiful old style house with a fantastic view from the balcony. You can see the dolphins swimming while enjoying a cup of coffee in the mornings.

Rustic beach cottage

The cottage is cute and with a little more love could be amazing. We wished it wasn’t between two rowdy condos. We encountered some cockroaches and mice during our stay. The rental company sent someone out two days later with. No notice to expect them. At that point we were on our last day. I will say that this rental has everything you need for the beach , many sand toys, and beach equipment as well as a grill, washer and dryer, outdoor shower for removing sand. We never had an issue with hot water even when we had 3 showers going at once! It’s a nice rental but a bit pricey for the condition of the property.

There are some maintenance issues. The decking should probably be replaced and the 4th bedroom is not connected to the rest of the house so we didn’t use it.

Nice location but house needs work

Don't stay here. The house is on the beach and is quaint but it needs work and is lacking basic things to make it acceptable. Note the 4th bedroom is only accessed from the outside and you walk straight into and odd bathroom/ laundry room. No wall or door around the shower or toilet! The screened in porch has no screens. Nice location on the beach, would have been nice to eat outside on the deck but there was no table. I could go on but just don't recommend this place. Oh and there were several different large groups staying at the place right next door that had loud parties almost every night we were there. One bed had no covers, just a sheet and there were no extras blankets to cover it. Not enough utensils for a family of four. No coffee maker, just a Keurig . This was not the relaxing stay we were expecting and the owner/property managers could do more to ensure the house is adequate for clients.

Good not great

The home is well situated and beach access is awesome. Old house is nostalgic but does require minor updates. Roof leaks, nails sticking up on deck and rusted metal screens deteriorating. Needs an additional shower to sleep 9 comfortably.

Visit to Sea Chanty

Reviewer Comments: Disappointed with beach access, steps would make access easier. We took my 85 year old Mom there thinking she could walk to the beach, disappointed that didn't happen. Enjoyed the old beach cottage feel of this home and the furnishing were fine with the exception of the beds. I know mattresses can be expensive but a great mattress and good nights sleep is the one thing that would bring us back, also a king would be nice and they do have room for one! We were surprised the second bath could not be accessed from the cottage, had to go outside. We did enjoy the outdoor shower! With all the growth in this area, hoping the owner does not join in and tear down this little gem!

PERFECT BEACHOUSE - Old School Outer Banks at its FINEST!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: As a child, I spent many late summer days on the Outer Banks with my father. Long days on the beach and sound side fishing with the occasional day trip by boat to the Gulf Stream. My son and daughter we blessed to have the Outer Banks experience in their youth, as well, when I had the chance. I wanted to share that simple, beautiful experience with my grandsons who are 1 and 3.When we arrived at the Sea Shanty, my daughter and I almost cried at the AMAZING architecture of the home and how it has been preserved so carefully since 1938. PERFECT!!! The juniper wood beams, walls, and ceilings hail from a time where things were made to last. The owners have made upgrades with wifi, TVs, air conditioning, washer, dryer, and a dishwasher. However, they did so while still maintaining the integrity of an old school beach house. The private access to the beach makes the walk out to the beach easy. Also, having the private beach front assured that we always had a place for our beach gear everyday.The downstairs outside shower made it convenient to wash the sand off of us and the children before going upstairs to the main house.We chose the room at the top of the stairs with the sliding glass doors, as it has a balcony that faces due east and makes sunrise over the Atlantic spectacular- while lounging with your coffee. Every detail for a beach adventure was considered by our hosts. We cannot thank our hosts for keeping this "real" and not caving into the pressures of people who would prefer cookie cutter condos with the same ole sheetrock and duldrum.We LOVE the Sea Shanty and will return very soon. We HIGHLY recommend this property for those who wish to experience the Outer Banks as it has been since 1938.

Perfect funky getaway right on the beach

We enjoyed cool breezes on the multiple porches during a very hot and sunny week, and relished in the outdoor shower for washing off the day’s sand and sunscreen. House has plenty of amenities but we didn’t even touch the cable TV. Great to have on-site laundry, fully equipped kitchen. Location close to Gorgeous Publix and walking distance to some restaurants can’t be beat.
