About Gabriela Egging

Abbott Creek Cottage belonged to my great Aunt Rose, the daughter of the original homesteaders inside the Canyon. It sits on part of the original homestead. The Cottage has been updated many times but the living room is the original cabin.

My father set the first turbine in Hungry Horse Dam just 4 miles from the Cottage. As a little girl my brothers and sisters and I would fish in Abbott Creek and sail our paper boats on feast days... Many a summer afternoon was spent walking the Creek to the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and picnicking along the way! A rough trek by any standards!

I was raised in Martin City, one of twelve children! My parents owned a grocery store, meat market and lockers near mile marker #144! The new highway took our home and store.

Comfortable and convenient

  • 5 of 5

This is a spacious rental minutes from the west entrance of the park. The kitchen is well-equipped, the rooms are comfortable, and there is plenty of space to relax. The main road to Glacier is out of sight from the cottage, but you definitely hear it. The traffic is fairly constant, so if you are looking for a quiet place in the woods, look elsewhere. If you aren't bothered by road noise, or use the noise canceling machines provided in the bedrooms, you'll find this is a comfortable and convenient place to stay.

Owner's Response: Alicia, thank you for your comments and we are happy you enjoyed your time at the Cottage! We hope you arrived back home rested and relaxed! The road noise is awful when Harley bikes go by. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to mitigate their obnoxious sound and they seem to never try to make their bikes quieter. No other vehicles are allowed to be so loud in such a pristine area. Peace to your year - Gabriela

Nice cottage.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much.Unfortunately the weather was a little warmer than usual and the house had no air condition. Most of the time we were gone during daytime and we were able to keep it fairly cool with the fans at night.

Owner's Response: I am happy you enjoyed the Cottage Nancy! As listed in the description of our property...there is NO air conditioning. The evenings in Montana cool down rapidly and that is why we say be sure to bring a jacket!! If you open the windows for cross ventilation and turn on the ceiling fans, the Cottage will cool down in a matter of minutes. Fortunately the heat in northwest Montana does not last but a few days!

Great little cottage

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for a week while visiting Glacier & the surrounding area. The cottage was not too small, well appointed and very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed and more, including a small coffee grinder. The bathroom is small, but it was fine for our family of 3. The location was perfect - close to Glacier, but not too far away from shopping, Whitefish and Kalispell.

Only two small downsides: there are several steps up/down within the house that I kept forgetting about and stumbling over and it IS pretty close to the main road. If we had stayed around the house all day, the road noise might have been bothersome; as it was, we were hiking during the day and I guess we were too tired at night for it to keep us awake!

Gabriela was very responsive and helpful with a small problem we had after leaving the cottage. We would definitely stay again on another visit to Glacier. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you Susan for leaving a review! I'm sorry about the steps....can't imagine how my 90+ Great Aunt did it. However, the steps are only about 4" high and there really is no way to change that and that is why the throw rugs are placed where they are!! I am happy you found the Cottage to your liking! Hope you had safe travels home. Kind Regards, Gabriela

I was raised in this area along side my eleven siblings. We hiked the trails in the Park, we climbed mountains, fished the streams and rivers, kayaked, rafted and swam the many rivers and lakes of this area. We camped, we picked wild huckleberries in season, gathered mushrooms, and wild raspberries and sarvis berries for eating. We photographed the wildlife, explored the mountain trails and the lookouts situated on the mountain peaks. We drove the backroads to remote camping places and viewed the wildlife found along the way.

Our father placed the first turbine in the famous Hungry Horse Dam. The construction of this dam in the late 40's and 50's provided many good jobs and today provides wonderful recreation opportunities for locals and visitors. There is an interesting visitor's center at the dam site.
