About Jaime Sterling
I loved restoring the compound and I really enjoy welcoming guests to it now. In addition, I design landscapes, volunteer with the nearby city of Bandon's park and city tree projects, play the Scottish fiddle with some groups, and totally enjoy being a mom. I grew up in California, but I prefer this wetter ocean/mountain climate. Our dry season (July - September) is a little long for me. I am 56 and have two children who think the compound is a state park! We have a yellow lab who enjoys swims in the ponds and thinks we dug them specially for him. When he camps with us we refer to him as the 'hairy brother'. I studied Landscape Architecture at Cal Poly, SLO, and specialize in restoring historic properties, planning rural landscapes, and designing horse properties. We love music, and the out-doors in many forms, and we really are pleased to share this retreat with others and hear that people have been happy here. Bring your musical instruments along. My friends and I have enjoyed many wonderful outdoor summer jam sessions in the beautiful surroundings on the mountain.
Jaime Sterling purchased this Estate in 1994
Why Jaime Sterling chose Curry County
The climate- 70-80 degree summer days up here. Quiet when the coast is windy. I have travelled the world and realize how rare it is to see the forested mountains right up to the ocean beach. I love sharing the beauty of this wild coast and having visitors relax and unwind. As a child we camped near here and I never forgot the amazing feel of the fresh rejuvenation. It is incredibly scenic and PRIVATE. You can walk the beach and maybe see one other person, then drive 12 miles and enjoy fine dining and world-class art, golf, etc.
What makes this Estate unique
This mountain compound really is like your own private state park near two really nice lighthouses and two interesting towns. At the compound you can enjoy the long mowed walking loop through the meadow to the far pond with views to the Pacific, as well as the short, scenic trails in the woods, and numerous lawns and flower gardens. It is a treat to visit the nearby organic farms to pick produce for your meals. There is also local natural beef, poultry, fresh tuna, salmon, crab, shrimp, and honey usually available nearby. The town of Bandon is great for buying fresh fish, shrimp, and crabbing off the dock (they will clean and cook it) for meals, and it has a REAL BOOKSTORE! It also has great restaurants, art galleries, an amazing museum, marina, and shopping. Of course, there is the world class golf resort, Bandon Dunes, and the local 9 holes at the Old Bandon Golf Links on the Beach Loop Scenic Drive, as well as the nearby Bandon Crossings Golf Course. Port Orford, 12 miles south has the Hawthorn family's Red Fish Gallery and Restaurant with AMAZING ocean views and art. Our Highland Woods property is near a lot of neat stuff to do, see, and eat!

This is a wonderful place to stay. Has plenty of room for big families and events. The views and hikes are amazing. Great to be away from the hustle of life.
We were looking to find a central location to hold a family reunion and stumbled upon this property. From the very beginning of the process we were happy. Jaime (owner) was very friendly and helpful with the multitude of questions we had. The caretakers Chris and Mel were very accommodating. The set up of the cabins and location of the Rogue Hall were perfect. We loved this place and hope to get back soon. If i had a negative, and not very negative at all, it would be the heat in the Rogue Hall (main space). If there were screen doors, it would be very nice so you could stay opened without worrying about insects getting in. All in all, I highly recommend this place. Absolutely WONDERFUL PLACE!! GO MARINERS!
The property was beautiful with flowers, trees, and with a surrounding forest and view of the ocean! The caretakers were responsive to requests. The main lodge was a wonderful gathering place for meals and spending time together as a family. Would highly recommend this place.
Lots of places to hike a wonderful place
This large family group really seemed to enjoy themselves. They had a variety of ages doing a variety of activities from relaxing on the hammock and lawns, hiking the trails and the flower sprouting fields, to playing and laughing on the badminton court in the meadow.
The Most Beautiful Mountain Top Wedding Location
For anyone looking for a beautiful outdoor wedding location, to a beautiful relaxing, scenic, retreat for a large group, or small, this home away from home property is absolutely stunning, from every view! My niece found this retreat online and from that moment, was excited to see it in person. After speaking with the owner Jamie, we were given the caretaker Sally's number to set up a time to see it. We arrived and found Sally outside working away on late Fall clean up burning brush and fallen debree it looked like. After seeing this, and more on our next visit, it's understandable why this property looks so beautifully cared for. Sally and her husband do such a wonderful job at keeping this retreat beautiful yet still so natural looking.
Our reservations were very easily made thru Jamie, who herself was very pleasant to work with. We reserved the whole facility, both main houses and all cabins. This worked well as for it gave all wedding party , plus family, rooms and beds. It gave us 2 kitchens total, the main house kitchen was used to finish prepping last minute wedding foods, while The Lodge kitchen was used for our meals for rehearsal dinner, to breakfast and lunch before the late afternoon wedding on Saturday. Both kitchens had all we needed for any prep left to do.
We also enjoyed gathering everyone in The Lodge in the evening before calling it a night. Having a family full of hunters, including myself, we all admired the Bull Elk mounted on the Lodge wall. Meaning to ask Sally or Jamie if they knew what the Bull scored, we have all guessed it to be around a 357? Haha!
We used the field up top with the Gazebo for the wedding, decorating with spool tables, Hay bale seating and a homemade Alder altar, it was simple yet beautiful, with the panaramic views from every direction, you needed very few decorations in this natural environment.
Our older generation retired much earlier than the younger generation, leaving me slightly worried the music would disturb Sally and her husband. Sally was very very gracious and insisting they were not bothered by the music. I cannot say enough, how much I have truly enjoyed speaking to and working with Sally. She and her husband are much more than caretakers, they are two of the nicest, accommodating gentle souls you will ever meet. They truly made our stay perfect! I cannot recommend this property enough, Thank you Jamie and Sally, we met as strangers, and left feeling like we had a new friend😊
I am so glad Highland Woods proved to be a wonderful location for the wedding! I am glad you found caretakers Sally and John to be as helpful and dear as I think they are!
Thank you so much,
Another Five Star Review!
I appreciated all of the good reviews before I booked, so I know there are already lots of them but I'm going to add ours as well! At our max, our family reunion had 32 people and I don't think anyone felt crowded - everyone raved about it. Some family went into Bandon, some of us were happy to soak up every moment of relaxation. We loved petting the horses, looking at stars (even if only one night was clear enough to see them), cooking together, being able to have the late-night folks in a non-sleeping room to talk as loud as they wanted.
Sixes was comfortable for 6 adults. At first we thought it would be a teen room, but with genders and ages, it worked better being for adults. Enough privacy. Very impressed with how Jaime has fixed up all of the space and especially with Sixes and Coquille. Everyone told me how much they liked it, and that they wished they'd scheduled to stay longer.
Planning this trip - with over-scheduled business people and teens, people with difficulty getting vacation from work, and a long drive (5 hours from Portland, 4 from Newport, and more from Oakland) - was a pain in the neck, I am so grateful we found this place.
Jaime is an absolute pleasure to work with and the caretakers were also very nice.
Only things close to a negative - a swimming pool would make this heaven, not being able to have a campfire for Smores (fire danger right now), and I could live without the Elk head in the lodge! But the biggest negative - we had to leave!
Scenic drives, bird-watching, 'you pick' organic berry and produce farms nearby, local honey, herbs, light house, historic home tours, photographic opportunities, and sea shell and agate collecting. Windsurfing school nearby!
