About Russ or Connie Bockhop

Live close by and admired this property for many years. Bought for retirement hobby to clean up and improve. House needed repairs and decided it would make a beautiful vacation home. Happy with finished project and hope visitors will enjoy this unique setting and privacy overlooking beautiful pond.

Russ or Connie Bockhop purchased this chateau / country house in 2008

Why Russ or Connie Bockhop chose Yosemite Area

Challenge and unique setting. Started out as a golf club house built in the late seventies and then turned into a restaurant for many years closing in the early eighties. Since then sat empty and deteriorating until we bought from owners estate. It's been an ongoing project since then. Clean mountain air with level terrain make for ideal experience.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Overlooks pond with fish. Fishing allowed but please release if not going to eat. Rooster tails work best. Easy access to trails for hiking, biking. House has open floor plan with deck & patio for entertaining. Large modern island kitchen with eating bars for serving. Balcony with stairs to patio would work well for outdoor wedding overlooking pond. Plenty of room for parking and guests.

Lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful, spacious, and well appointed home - it was an absolute pleasure to stay here. The pond out back makes it especailly picturesque. Also it is worth noting that when there was an issue with one of the gas fires, the owner (Russ) was quick to respond and deal with it.

Couldn't imagine a better place for a relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

If you're in a hurry, just want a place to rest at night after a day of hiking in the Yosemite, you might want to skip this, go find yourself one of the lodges in the park, or if you're too adventurous, hazard a stay in one of the shabby lodges along Rt140 closer to the park. This place is not for you.

But imagine taking a detour from Rte 140 into one of the less traversed roads, and the surroundings transform almost magically to peace and tranquillity, through the redwood groves sometimes, and sometimes through a more open lush green meadow, a horse or two grazing gleefully ignorant of the motor noise, filling you with that feeling of guilt of being the anomaly in the perfect natural setting.

And then you reach the property, and like it happens so seldom in the real world, it actually looks better than in the pics.

And then you step inside, and feel stupid for thinking this is a small place by looking at it from the outside. It is so. Spacious. Inside. Just perfect for a big family, or two.

And then you see the view from the dining hall and go "you gotta be kidding me". The most perfect little fish pond surrounded in lush greenery and some fine redwood. Janice will tell the story about how the drought destroyed the trees in the area. And about the bear that used to come down there often to play in the water and fish. So you hope to find him one of the days/nights and even secretly leave a loaf of meat outside madly hoping he'll find it, but he won't turn up. Or maybe he will, you never know!

Rooms are spacious, and amenities are aplenty. Russ/Connie/Janice will take every care in the world to make your stay the most comfortable. Great deck and grill for nights of music and games and bonding by the burning meat.

Wifi is fast, but you might just want to turn it off, and, you know...

Only issue, it's a bit of a drive from both Rt 140 and Rt 49. But then, that was not at all an issue for me, instead, that's exactly what I wanted. Worst case, Mariposa is just about 25 mins away for supplies!

We loved it! It was very spacious and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you again for sharing your home with us! It was home away from home. We loved the open floor plan. Our kids and pup Jax loved it! Let's not forget the wood stove in the foyer, it kept the downstairs so warm and cozy!

Perfect mountain cabin retreat.

  • 5 of 5

We spent New Years Eve here. Great location. Cabin is fully stocked. One hour drive to Yosemite--not bad at all. Will definitely be back! The owners are so nice and accomodating. The fireplace was lit when we arrived. Just nice touches everywhere. Clean and comfy. Kids can sprawl out.
