About Russ or Connie Bockhop

Live close by and admired this property for many years. Bought for retirement hobby to clean up and improve. House needed repairs and decided it would make a beautiful vacation home. Happy with finished project and hope visitors will enjoy this unique setting and privacy overlooking beautiful pond.

Russ or Connie Bockhop purchased this chateau / country house in 2008

Why Russ or Connie Bockhop chose Mariposa

Challenge and unique setting. Started out as a golf club house built in the late seventies and then turned into a restaurant for many years closing in the early eighties. Since then sat empty and deteriorating until we bought from owners estate. It's been an ongoing project since then. Clean mountain air with level terrain make for ideal experience.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Overlooks pond with fish. Fishing allowed but please release if not going to eat. Rooster tails work best. Easy access to trails for hiking, biking. House has open floor plan with deck & patio for entertaining. Large modern island kitchen with eating bars for serving. Balcony with stairs to patio would work well for outdoor wedding overlooking pond. Plenty of room for parking and guests.

Spacious home with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

This is a true hidden gem. It’s in a peaceful area near Yosemite, and it has numerous grills/fire pits, fishing equipment for the lake out back, multiple TV’s, and a ton of space for a large family. The owners are extremely nice too. We were forced to evacuate on our last night due to a wild fire in the near-by area, and the owners refunded our last night without us having to ask. Highly recommend this property.

Great weekend cottage, very comfortable and well equipped

  • 5 of 5

I was travelling with 7 of my friends and we spent the weekend at the End of the road retreat. It's in a great location and we found everything we needed. The rooms are spacious, the patio has a great big yard for the dogs and the location is amazing. I will definitely be coming back the next change I get.

Relaxing Retreat

  • 5 of 5

End of the Road Retreat was everything my family needed for our vacation. The bedrooms were spacious and we loved sitting on the balcony in the evening enjoying the sounds of nature. With two patio spaces and plenty of seating, everyone was able to be outside comfortably. We could watch the ducks swim across the pond and the trees surrounding the house, made for great bird watching. We had no problem feeling right at home. The kitchen was well stocked and there was plenty of room for several to help out in the kitchen. We also enjoyed reading about the history of the home and surrounding area. Mariposa was nearby to shop for supplies at the Pioneer Market and there were several restaurants for anyone who wanted to eat out. Be aware cell service is extremely limited in the area. We were prepared for this, so it wasn't too problematic, and there was internet available at the house for any of our needs. Thank you Russ and Connie for sharing your retreat with us.

Beautiful setting and fun for the kids; easy access to Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay over the weekend at 'End of the Road Retreat'. The kids were so excited when they walked in and saw how spacious the cabin is, the spiral staircase, and the huge pond in the backyard. They also loved roasting marshmallows over the fire pit. We spent a full day in Yosemite by driving to the Midpines County Park (about 20 min away) and then taking YARTS into the park. The ride was very comfortable and air-conditioned, and we could enjoy the scenic views without the hassle of driving. We were so happy we stayed outside the park in this beautiful, peaceful area. I have a feeling the kids will want to come back again next year!
