About Russ or Connie Bockhop
Live close by and admired this property for many years. Bought for retirement hobby to clean up and improve. House needed repairs and decided it would make a beautiful vacation home. Happy with finished project and hope visitors will enjoy this unique setting and privacy overlooking beautiful pond.
Russ or Connie Bockhop purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2008
Why Russ or Connie Bockhop chose Mariposa
Challenge and unique setting. Started out as a golf club house built in the late seventies and then turned into a restaurant for many years closing in the early eighties. Since then sat empty and deteriorating until we bought from owners estate. It's been an ongoing project since then. Clean mountain air with level terrain make for ideal experience.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Overlooks pond with fish. Fishing allowed but please release if not going to eat. Rooster tails work best. Easy access to trails for hiking, biking. House has open floor plan with deck & patio for entertaining. Large modern island kitchen with eating bars for serving. Balcony with stairs to patio would work well for outdoor wedding overlooking pond. Plenty of room for parking and guests.

Peaceful and relaxing
This property is a true gem. The place is very spacious. Our group of six adults had plenty of area to be together or to have some quiet time alone. We loved sitting by the firepit every night enjoying the wildlife and view of the pond. The property is centrally located to many area attractions. It is a scenic drive to Yosemite. We also enjoyed sitting at night by the soapstone woodstove inside reading or watching a movie. We had fun fishing in the pond and having a competition on who caught the largest fish. The kitchen is well stocked and the family had fun cooking together. Also a great grill right outside the kitchen door. We felt very comfortable at this lovely home.
This was the most perfect honeymoon retreat! It is so cozy and romantic. I hope to stay at your beautiful cabin again soon!
Lovely Peaceful and Perfect
We held our wedding on the property on April 28th and it was a perfect setting. Our guests all commented on how beautiful the scene was and how relaxing the wedding was.
Russ, Connie and Janice made sure everything was smooth sailing and wonderful. They were super easy to work with and incredibly accommodating. We live just down the road but it feels like a completely different place. We would love to stay again!

Our second time!
Beautiful place with small lake, far in nature.
Very inviting home, warm, very well kept, beautiful views of surrounding nature, my 11 and 13 y/o loved it. Lily
Perfect for Family Gathering
This is a retreat, indeed. Very serene and perfect place to get away from the usual pace. As others have said, plan ahead and get groceries and gas in town, and don't rely only on navigation system due to lack of cell service. But, once you're there, you won't want to leave. Our family forewent an extra day in Yosemite just to spend more time together in this wonderful home. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking and serving supplies, and we were able to prepare and enjoy our Thanksgiving dinner here. We debated whether to stay in a smaller condo in Yosemite Valley instead of being an hour away, but once we visited the Valley and saw the crowds (even in November) we were very happy we elected to stay in Mariposa. The drive went by even quicker than we expected and it was really nice to come back to the peace and quiet of this beautiful home.
Nestled in the Sierra National Forest on twenty sprawling acres with towering pine trees and a private pond right out your back door. Whether you are looking for a vacation spot or a quiet retreat for your business, social group event or unique wedding experience, you've found the right place. A cozy retreat just waiting for you.
The Merced River, Yosemite and Bass Lake Recreational Area are all a short drive away. From exploring Yosemite to water-skiing on Bass Lake, you'll have plenty of adventures to keep you and your family smiling for days to come. The town of Mariposa offers quaint shops for shopping and a museum full of gold rush history and gold panning. A zip line ride at the edge of town is a heart stopping experience.
