About Janet Trogdon

We fell in love with Niagara-on-the-Lake a long ago, it was our favourite destination when we newly married and care free. We came to enjoy the wineries, theatre, history and the old world charm. This was our spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of big city life. As time went by and we became parents it became a place we enjoyed sharing with our children. They loved the parks, the hiking and of course, the ice-cream shops! It is a place to build memories and share in special moments. Now the kids are in their teens and we still love to come, but not as often as we'd like. So please enjoy our home-away-from-home for us! We love to hear your stories so please post your special moments to the VRBO section under Artist's Cottage. We will jealously read them all!

Why Janet Trogdon chose Historic Old Town

Through the years we have come to treasure the historical gems of Niagara-on-the-Lake. With an artistic eye, we could see that history of this town in our vacation home. We purposely wanted to provide accommodation that we, as a young family, couldn't find -comfortable, private, well located and affordable. We were also a growing family, so we needed a place that was spacious inside, a kitchen big enough to cook in and keep an eye on the kids, but also a big family gathering space because we love game nights and music nights – especially in front of a fire place on a cool autumn’s eve!. We also were looking to the future and wanted to be close to the shops so when the children were older, they could easily walk or bike everywhere. Walking to the local grocer was a must because we like to leave the car parked ! The other thing we wanted to make sure we had was a big back yard where the kids could kick a ball and run around to exhaust themselves while we kicked back and relaxed. This home was an opportunity to own and preserve a little bit of the old town Niagara-on-the-Lake!

What makes this house unique

Artist’s Cottage is definitely a place to kick back and relax. Leave your worries behind and pretend you live like a local. Walk everywhere, you can park your car for your entire stay if you want. Your feet or a bicycle is the best mode of transportation in this town! Walk to the grocer, the local cheese shop, the wine store, baker and you have all the best of ingredients to make the perfect meal on the bbq/grill or in the well equipped kitchen!

Available all 4 seasons, we are an excellent choice. In the spring, summer enjoy the spacious back garden and patio area, in the cool evenings in the fall and winter, cozy up in front of the fireplace! There is lots of room to be inside and out and never feel on top of each other, but still feel connected!

While we made this a very comfortable and inviting vacation home, we did not go over the top with renovations. That is for two reasons, the main one being we wanted to keep it affordable to a family or for people to come and enjoy the town like we did as a young married couple or as our parents do in their retirement. The other reason is to keep the home true to its historical origins. While we have TV’s, wifi etc - all necessary for vacation rentals. We also want you to enjoy the electric piano and the guitar so that you can build the kind of memories that last a life time. Live in the moment and share it with the people you treasure most – Artist’s Cottage is waiting for you!

And we're not even artists...

  • 4 of 5

But we love Artist's Cottage. I've been there three times in the last year and each time was great. At one point the kettle stopped working and a new one appeared on the doorstep within hours. Great service. In summer the backyard is a dream, in rainy fall weather the living room fireplace is heaven.

Great spot.

Cute cottage - home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it - a very cute and homely cottage, nice backyard with badminton and bocce available to play. Cottage was conveniently located close to shops and restaurants. Easy to book and information from owner was helpful and came in a timely fashion. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Uphill to the sink

  • 4 of 5

The location makes this an excellent place to stay in Niagara on the Lake. It really is a lovely October leaf-kicking walk to downtown or the theatre, shopping or a stroll by the water. The house is fully equipped - kitchen has lots of pots, all appliances and enough wine glasses. Great gas fireplace in the living room makes things very cozy at the end of a rainy day. The slightly slanty floors are a bonus; recalls a time when all houses had them and adds to the charm.

Sisters' Reunion

  • 5 of 5

The house, property and location were all as advertised with location excellent. Within walking distance to all major attractions.

We were five sisters from across the country and could not have asked for better accommodations. We did a wine tour with pickup and drop off at the house and also enjoyed a musical at Shaw Festival. Would recommend (and already have) this to anyone spending a few days in Niagara on the Lake.

Enjoyable cottage close to town

  • 4 of 5

Nice cottage with full kitchen and huge backyard. Covered patio with patio furniture in the backyard. Other than driving to Wine tours, we walked all over. Very close to old town niagara on the lake. I would rent this cottage again.
