Definitely a unique stay. The accommodation is rustic and has lots of character yet has everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The surrounding nature is beautiful to take in and very relaxing.
There was a musty odor, but I didn't mind because the place was so cute, convenient, and reasonably priced. Consider this property like glamping - it doesn't have all the regular amenities, but it is worth it for the unique experience.
The Mermaid Suite is exactly we hoped for. Staying there is to return to Topanga Canyon fifty years ago. You can sense the excitement of top notch musicians living an playing in the town's tavern. If you have heard of any musician from the late 60s to mid 70's they most likley played here, The Suite was handcrafted by back-to-the-land hippies with bright colors, a concoction of buildting materials, paintings of mermaids, mismatched doors and window. and homey furniture. It's not for everyone but you have a yen to be a free spirit and explore the mountains and ocean while experiencing something different, this just might be your place. We are in our 70s and had no trouble moving around. Plus we relived some of the best years ever.

Staff very attentive - answered questions right away, reassured, and followed up to help with navigating to the location. Clean airy and comfortable stay. Really enjoyed the peaceful setting.
We got the "Mermaid Suite" which shared walls with 2 other suites but there was no noise issues at all. The description says it well, these are artistic "cabins"... some are actual singular cabins and some are connected like ours was, either way be prepared for cabin style dwelling with early LA hippie/avant-garde, back to nature vibes. These were the CLEANEST cabins I've ever stayed in... that being said, they are cabins, some dust, a bug here or there but I was impressed with the bathroom in our suite and the overall cleanliness. I WILL STAY HERE AGAIN!. If it's over 90 turn the AC on first thing though, it's hot in that Canyon.

Very rustic. The hill to get up to the cabin was pretty steep and turning around was a challenge in a bigger truck. There are no screens on the windows so don’t plan on leaving windows open. We seen 3 coyotes wandering as we pulled in. The air conditioning broke the day we got there which we don’t know until we arrived because I was driving. They said it would be fixed next day but it was so hot we decided to leave. It is much smaller than it looks and the 2nd bed is upstairs with barely enough room to stand, don’t plan I getting dressed up there or taking up a suitcase.
Loved it! I grew up in Topanga, and it was exactly the sort of Topanga style place I wanted to stay. It was really close to the market and restaurants, as well as gave us great access to the beach or valley. Highly recommend.
Very unique place and is worth for the price. I wish they had a TV there and a bigger courtain because the brightness wakes you up too early. The bed is not very confortable for 2 people.
Property was awesome. Mermaid suite was great and just what we needed. Great host and awesome Price Things I didn’t like, maybe I misunderstood but the mermaid suite is not completely by itself. It like a long building separated. next time I’m going for the Japan cabin. The hill is hard to Get up, if you have a normal rental / car this isn’t the hill for you. Overall this place has so much charm and it’s hippy. Would come again and recommend!
The Mermaid Suite was absolutely magical! The entire space was beautiful, unique, and thoughtfully designed. I loved all of the mermaid-themed details—it felt immersive without being overdone, and the atmosphere made the stay feel really special.Everything was comfortable and welcoming, and you can tell a lot of care went into creating the suite. It was such a fun and memorable experience and definitely not your typical place to stay. There were a few things I think could be improved. There was no TV, which would have been nice to have. I also noticed a slightly unusual smell around the desk area. Parking was a little confusing at first, so clearer instructions would definitely help. The biggest issue was the temperature. The air conditioning felt a little weak and did not cool the entire suite evenly. Some areas were comfortable, but the kitchen and bathroom stayed quite warm, and parts of the space could almost feel like a sauna.Even with those few things, I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the Mermaid Suite. With a stronger air-conditioning system, clearer parking directions, and a couple of small updates, this could be an absolutely fantastic stay. 🧜
We had an absolutely fantastic stay, the only issue was NOT wanting to leave. Our hosts contacted us a few days ahead of our stay to ask if we could switch accommodations from the Mermaid suite to the Japanese Tea House. It was all an adventure and perfectly fine with us. WOW. The Tea House was absolutely amazing. Very cool, very earthy and comfortable. We loved absolutely every minute of our time in Topanga and planning to return for a much longer visit. The area is absolutely gorgeous. We we able to take a short trip to the local country store to grab dinner to bring back to the Tea Hose. The outdoor kitchen has everything you need and dining area is WONDERFUL. Perfect to sit and enjoy nature. We had an absolutely perfect time. The hosts are great, we loved it and are counting the days until we can stay again.
Cute and fun place in a beautiful area away from the crowd. It was rustic, artistic, and as my husband said “had character.” The bed was comfortable, and I’m picky about that. Our neighbors did some interesting things, but even with that, it was a nice stay.
