What a great place!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the Schoolhouse for a week in September. It was a family affair -- my husband and I, and our daughter and her family. There were 4 adults and 3 children, ages 13, 11, & 9. We had great weather -- highs in the upper 70's to low 80's, and lows in the 50's, so the lack of AC was no problem. There are ceiling fans, and enough windows & doors you can open to get plenty of air moving through. The kitchen is a good size and well appointed. My daughter cooked most every meal (there are not a lot restaurants around), and had everything she needed and more. The adjoining camp is great and we took full advantage. We used two of the tennis courts -- one for tennis and one for pickleball. We fished in the two creeks, and in the lake. There is also plenty of space for as long of a walk as you want. Having wifi and DirecTV is wonderful for down times, and we did have a few occasions to use the land line. Almost forgot to mention the screened-in porch -- loved it! The only negative (and this explains the rating of 4) came from my daughter's family regarding the bedding upstairs. The twin mattresses were not firm/thick enough to prevent the kids from feeling the slats in the beds. Once we doubled up the mattresses, the kids were fine. My daughter and her husband thought the queen mattress was too hard, but there was no fix for that. We love this area of WV, and have rented other places for more than 10 years. The Schoolhouse, by far, is our favorite and we would not hesitate to rent it again.

The house was great! Everything we needed was there and there was plenty of room for everyone. There was a lot to do in the area and we were kept busy seeing all the sights.

Great space, private but close to everything

  • 4 of 5

5 kids, 5 adults & enough room for everyone! House is spacious & well situated with everything you need to have a great get away. Definitely follow the instructions given by check-in instructions as the map location takes you to the wrong place.

Fantastic long weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a wonderful time at the Schoolhouse. There were three families with a total of six active little boys, and we all had a ball. There was plenty of room to run around for the kids, the grounds were perfect for long walks and explorations, and the creeks are stocked with trout so there was fun fishing for all. The Schoolhouse itself was beautiful, very comfortable for our party of 12 to relax and spread out. We ate dinners on the screened-in porch, and enjoyed conversation, playing guitar, and singing around the firepit. Even the drive into the area was beautiful, through rolling hills and mountains, with little peeks of creeks and rivers around every turn in the road. We hope to come and stay again!

Awesome property and surrounding area. Our favorite room in the house was the open kitchen area. Great for space to have the whole group together.
