About this property
Dog-Friendly Cabin · Hot Tub · Sleeps 6 · Fire Pit
Austen is a cabin for families and groups who want room to spread out without losing the feeling of being somewhere. Kids can claim the bunk room, adults have two king beds across two levels, and there's a covered deck waiting for the kind of evening that stretches longer than you planned.
Named for Jane Austen — who understood better than most that the best stories happen when the right people are in the same room — it's one of four cabins at Notestone Reserve, our family-owned 14-acre property in Laurelville.
Perfect for families and friend groups of up to six — multiple sleeping areas, a kids' bunk room, dogs welcome, and enough space that everyone has their own corner.
What You'll Love
• The covered deck — plenty of seating, your own outdoor living room • Fire pit for the long evenings when no one's ready to call it a night • Hot tub tucked under the covered lower deck — usable in any weather • The shared game room — pool table, arcade, 85" Smart TV, and more, a short walk across the property • Enough space that everyone has their own corner, but an open main floor that keeps the group together
Sleeping — Sleeps 6
• Loft: king bed (spiral staircase) • Main floor: twin-over-full bunk room, woodland-themed — the kids will call it immediately • Lower level: king bedroom • Pack 'n play available on site — just give us a heads up. Bring your own sheets if needed.
Outside
• Covered deck off the main floor with seating • Woodburning fire pit — firewood ready when you arrive • Hot tub tucked under the covered lower deck — protected from rain and sun, usable year-round • Propane grill with tools
Main Floor
Open concept kitchen, living, and dining — whoever's cooking is still part of the conversation. Full kitchen with everything you need to make a real meal. Island seating for 6. Bluetooth speaker for the background noise.
• No garbage disposal or dishwasher — worth knowing for longer stays • Kitchen stocked with basic pantry items to get you started • Starter kit on arrival: paper towels, a kitchen sponge, and trash liners. Worth packing a little extra for longer stays.
Bathrooms
Two full bathrooms with showers — one on the main floor, one on the lower level. Each stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion. Two rolls of toilet paper per bathroom to get you started — worth packing extra for longer stays.
Lower Level
• King bedroom • Living area with 65" Smart TV with streaming capabilities • Arcade machine • Game table
Dogs Welcome
Up to 2 dogs per stay. One crate provided. Dogs must stay leashed on the property and off the furniture. A $100 pet fee applies per stay.
The Shared Game Room (open to all Notestone guests — a short walk across the property)
• 85" Smart TV • Pool table and foosball • Basketball arcade, classic arcade machines, and a racing game
Getting Here and Getting Around
Notestone Reserve sits in the heart of the Hocking Hills — close enough to hit two or three trails in a day and still be back in time for the fire.
• Rock House — 3.3 miles · 7 min • Conkle's Hollow — 8.8 miles · 15 min • Old Man's Cave — 11 miles · 20 min • Ash Cave — 16 miles · 28 min
Cedar Falls, Cantwell Cliffs, and the rest of the state park system are all within a short drive. Cell signal on the back-country roads can be spotty — download your directions before you leave home.
Austen has a steeper approach than the other cabins. Under normal conditions it's accessible in most vehicles — but during winter months when ice and snow are a factor, 4WD or AWD is strongly recommended.
About the WiFi
We run Starlink satellite internet. It holds up well for most things — streaming, music, casual browsing. Video calls and long phone calls can cut out occasionally, especially on overcast days. If you're planning to work remotely, it can work, but plan for the occasional hiccup. We'd rather tell you upfront than have you find out mid-Zoom.
A Note on the Setting
We're in a wooded area and stay on top of regular pest control. That said, a ladybug or a curious spider showing up is just Hocking Hills being Hocking Hills.
Check-in: 4:00 PM · Check-out: 11:00 AM
A Few House Rules
We're a small, family-owned operation, and keeping Notestone calm and well-kept is a group effort. A few things we ask:
• No parties or events, including bachelor/bachelorette groups. And no glitter — it genuinely never goes• away. • Registered guests only on the property • No smoking or vaping anywhere on the property, indoors or out • No fireworks, ATVs, hunting, or weapons on the property • No commercial photography or video without written approval • Hot tub: striped towels only, keep the cover on between soaks, and please don't adjust the temperature below 100 degrees — it takes several hours to recover • Septic system: flush toilet paper only, no garbage disposal at the sink • 4WD/AWD recommended during winter months
Before You Arrive
All guests sign a short renter's agreement after booking. We'll send it over — quick, painless, and it helps us take good care of you and everyone else on the property.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION
Notestone Reserve sits in Laurelville, Ohio — in the heart of the Hocking Hills region. Rock House is 3.3 miles away (about 7 minutes). Cantwell Cliffs is 7.4 miles (about 15 minutes). Conkle's Hollow is 8.8 miles (about 15 minutes). Old Man's Cave is 11 miles out (about 20 minutes), and Ash Cave is 16 miles (about 28 minutes) — a full day of exploring without ever doubling back. 4WD/AWD strongly recommended for Austen during winter months given the steeper approach. A weekend at The Austen was perfect for our family
Our family of 5 (3 college age children) enjoyed a relaxing weekend at the Austen. We were able to sit on the deck or patio, enjoy conversations in the hot tub, play games, and enjoy nature (views, birds, deer, rain showers, etc). The cabin is well thought out for everything you could need, even for a family of young children. Plenty of bedding, seating, and extra blankets for indoors and outdoors. We will definitely be back!!

Perfection! Cabin, Reserve, Location
We had an incredible stay at this cabin and couldn’t have asked for a better setup for our family of five. Traveling with three kids can be tricky, but this place was absolutely perfect for us, spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed so everyone had room to relax and enjoy.
The interior is beautifully done in a mid-modern style that feels both cozy and elevated. Everything was spotless and incredibly well-appointed. From great coffee and a fully stocked kitchen to all the toiletries you could possibly need, it truly felt like nothing was overlooked. We never once had to say, “I wish they had thought of this”, because they had.
The hot tub was a huge highlight for all of us. Soaking while taking in the stunning views was pure relaxation, and those views alone are worth the stay. Morning coffee and evening downtime were equally magical.
We also have to give special recognition to the barn, what an amazing bonus. The kids (and adults!) had a blast with the video games and pool table, and it quickly became a favorite family hangout. It added so much fun and made our time together even more memorable.
The hosts were fantastic from start to finish responsive, friendly, and incredibly easy to work with. Communication was quick and clear anytime we had a question, which made the entire experience seamless and stress-free.
We truly can’t wait to come back. This was one of those stays that leaves you already planning the next visit and next time, we’re absolutely trying the mirrored cabins. Highly recommend!
Hi, I'm Stacey — one of the founders of Notestone Reserve, and the person who's been hands-on in shaping every space on the property.
Restoration is something I think about a lot. The idea that something with potential can become something worth keeping — that broken pieces, arranged with care, can turn into something magnificent. Stained glass works that way. So does Notestone.
This property started as a vision and a lot of hard work. What it is now — ten units across 14 acres in the heart of Hocking Hills, each one named for a writer who paid attention to the world around them — is the result of believing that where you rest matters.
Every detail reflects what I personally look for when I travel: comfort without pretense, nature without roughing it. The bedding, the hot tubs, the fire pits, the game room — which sounds shared until you realize that most nights it belongs entirely to your group anyway. The kind of place where your own story gets written.
I'm proud of what we've built. And I'd love to have you here.
Welcome to Notestone Reserve.
What makes this property unique
Austen is a cabin for six with room for everyone and a layout that actually keeps the group together — open main floor, a kids' woodland bunk room, two king beds, and a lower level with its own arcade machine and 65" TV. The covered hot tub and fire pit handle the evenings.
As a Notestone Reserve guest you'll also have access to our shared community game room — pool table, basketball arcade, classic arcade machines, and a big-screen TV lounge. Most nights it's all yours.
Notestone Reserve sits in Laurelville, right in the heart of Hocking Hills. Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, and Conkle's Hollow are all a short drive away — enough to keep the whole group busy by day and talking about it by night.
