About Judy or Jack
We love retreating away from the busy lifestyle here to relax and fish the Gulf where the fish are plentiful! As avid divers and water people in general, we have been diving and spearfishing the Gulf since 2005 and can tell you first hand that some of the best fishing is in the Gulf. Whether its spearfishing, hook & line or scalloping, access to the Gulf of Mexico is right at your doorstep and only minutes away.
Judy or Jack purchased this House in 2007
Why Judy or Jack chose Old Homosassa
I frequently travelled to Crystal River from Gainesville in the 70's, and when I married in 2002, my husband and I decided to spend our honey moon at Plantation Inn, and he fell in love with the area, especially Homosassa's natural beauty. We purchased our property in 2005, adding a home the following year. It has a deck & dock, as well as a spacious 'no see em' screened back porch. We've spent countless hours enjoying the outdoors and the quiet. We especially love to sit on the porch in the morning with a cup of coffee and listen to the birds.
What makes this House unique
We love the coziness of our wood burning stone fireplace and when we're not enjoying the quiet, we are enjoying all there is to do in the area including fishing, scalloping, kayaking and some very nice motorcycling through the old Florida scenery. There are numerous destinations from Cedar Key to Ocala and Leesburg to Flora City. I love the fact that we can walk out our back door, straight to the boat, and enjoy a nice beautiful scenic ride to the Gulf, with little to no boat traffic.

Great home on the water
Very clean and well maintained home in a quiet area. We enjoyed having our boat out back and the dock, hose, and sink made everything easy. The guest book with detailed maps and Jack’s willingness to provide some verbal instructions before we headed out helped get us to the gulf. However, we suggest you avoid low tide as that will make the trip a bit more stressful if you don’t know the waters. We also found good food at every restaurant we visited. Our family definitely enjoyed our time in Homosassa at Jack and Judy’s lovely home.
Thank you for your kind review. We certainly love having excellent guests ike yourselves. We hope you return again soon.

Nice and relaxing
Home was very nice. I really thought the pictures listed didn’t do it enough justice :-) Great location to all local fun spots. We were able to rent a golf cart from a local establishment which really made things nice. Didn’t have to use the car. We just used the golf cart to go sightseeing and ride to all the local hot spots. I would definitely suggest this home for anyone wanting a nice vacation.
Thanks so much, and we are glad you enjoyed your stay in our little slice of Paradise. We welcome you back again anytime, you were excellent Guests! Jack & Judy

Enjoyed our time in Homosassa
Owners were easy to work with. Our stay was over-all a really fun trip. Definitely recommend if you bring a boat and are not familiar with the area, ASK THE LOCALS before you take it out. There are oyster beds everywhere and they're not marked. Started our trip off to a bumpy start, because of this when my husband's $1200 minn kota anchor system got stuck in an oyster bed. That was quite stressful. But, the people are super laid-back and friendly, and once we got that taken care of, it was fine. The house just had a new A/C unit put in and it was cool all of the time so that's great being able to come back to a cool place to sleep. Also, the home is not directly on crystal river. It's a little drive, but not too far. You can't swim at the house, because the water is super dark and gators could be around. But the drive is no piece. Over-all we had a good trip!
We are glad you had a good trip. As for the anchor system on your boat, you did tell us that your depth sounder/fish finder wasn’t working when you got stuck in the oyster bed, which occurred during an unfortunate day time low tide, made worse by a New Moon. We informed you, prior to your stay, about the detailed list of instructions/coordinates and google maps in our guest book (copies are provided to guests to take with them prior to getting on the water). If you were unsure of navigation, you could have simply called me (an experienced captain on these waters), before heading out, which we encouraged you to do. The detailed Google Maps show shoaled areas and/or Oyster beds, as well as the route to use to get to the river. Our prior guests have complimented us on these maps, including one guest (Rick C. on 7-24-15) even adding to his review as to “how beneficial and helpful they are in getting to the open water as well as GPS #s being extremely helpful.” As for the gators, it’s Florida. Our grandchildren, as well as many other guests' children, have even caught Mangrove Snapper, right off the dock, having a ball!
Relax and rejuvenate in a beautiful, peaceful setting.
From the great communication to the detailed guest binder, Jack and Judy made the booking and check-in process a breeze. This pet-friendly property is located in a quiet neighborhood in Old Homosassa yet is near to a wide variety of attractions and great seafood restaurants. Their home is well-maintained and extremely clean. The screened in deck on the back of the house is a great place to relax and look out over the shaded backyard and dock on the canal. My cousin and her husband who live in Gainesville visited and commented that they would like to book a vacation in Jack and Judy's home.
The nearby Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is a must see. My wife and I enjoyed it so much that we went twice. River Safaris tours offers a variety of tours of the Homosassa River. Captain Jodi took us on a pontoon boat tour from the springs to the gulf and provided a wealth of information on the river's natural environment. Our favorite restaurant/bar was the Freezer. Located dockside, you look out at the fishing boats while you eat. The boiled shrimp and smoked salmon dip are a fantastic.
We want to thank Jack & Judy for making our Homosassa vacation a wonderful experience.
Thanks so much for your kind review, and we hope you and your family return again soon! You were the perfect guests, and we appreciate the excellent care you took of our home. So glad you enjoyed our lil slice of Paradise! Judy & Jack

-Mason's Creek has navigable water for Bay, Flats and John boats, Bimini tops only, as there is one bridge entering/leaving camp, up to 25'. As with all tidal boating, boater's should exersise caution during the first trip in and out, as well as due diligence in planning to ensure they are familiar with our waterways, specifically the Homosassa River, Mason Creek & Petty Creek. We strongly recommend you view Google Earth in advance of your stay. There will be aerial views with notes in the guest book.
-There are any number of tackle/bait shops in the area for all of your tackle, bait and ice needs, most of them just around the corner. After your scalloping trip, have the locals clean your scallops for a small fee at MacRae's, aka 'The Shed,' while you have a cold drink and listen to live music Saturday and Sunday. Quite frankly, you never have to leave Homosasssa. Stay and enjoy our great litttle town; check out the Freezer, Old Mill Tavern, Sea Grass Pub, Neon Leon, Yardarm ($8-$10 they will cook your fillets of fish and 2 sides), rent a boat and cruise around the 'Monkey Island' , cruise to the springs or go fishing.
-One of our favorite restaurants is Pecks Old Port Cove in Ozelle, a beautiful 7 mile scenic drive, for Soft Shell Crab right off the water table out back. Go see it; best we've ever had?
-For you bike enthusiast, this area has numerous must see destinations such as; MaCraes, especially on Sunday for some great music on the river, Ozelle, Sleepy Hollow in Floral City, Cedar Key and many more.
-If Disney is your thing, its a mear 1 1/2 hour drive to Orlando.
-If you're into antiques, we have shops in virtually any town nearby or you can day trip over to Mt. Dora near Orlando. Its well worth the time, another great drive if you take the secondary roads and stay north of the Turnpike. Start out on 44 head east to Inverness and Leesburg.
-Not too far from Mt. Dora is one of our favorite stops for lunch and an adult beverage, Gator Joe's Beach Bar & Grille located on the North side of Lake Weir; great drive or bike ride. While you're there you can enjoy the water and maybe even get wet if you like or simply relax under the Spanish Moss laden Oak trees, enjoying old Florida at its finest and one of their great signature dishes.
-If you feel the need to head to the city, I can't imagine why, Tampa has all the trappings and Busch Gardens and its only just over an hour away.
