About the property

A Cottage Feel, In A Sea Of Architectural Greatness!!

Lovely Private Rooftop Penthouse Studio available! This Studio sits on top of the Parc Coliseum with the rooftop as your private space. The Terraced area of the rooftop is surrounded by some of New York's finest architecture including the Ansonia and the Alexandria. At night you can see the lights and some of the buildings located in Time Square, and all of The Freedom Tower, which is lit.

With large windows on three of the four studio walls, and a private terrace on a private rooftop outside of the windows, you will feel like you are staying in a small house while living 1/2 block from the 72 street subway stop on New York's Upper West Side! This cool studio has 2 private side-by-side elevators which you key for access to the Penthouse. There is a fully equipped kitchen and full bath with shower and tub. The studio living space is shaped like a large dog bone with the main living space on one end the elevators in the middle and the kitchen and bath at the other end.

Start your morning with coffee on the terrace under your sun umbrella and feast your eyes on lovely architecture and sky. Spend your day walking to numerous neighborhood locations, or grab a cab or subway at the end of the street, then return to unwind with a glass of wine in the cool breeze of the outdoors before stepping out for the evening! This time of year, a coat is required!

-3 blocks to Central Park

-3 blocks to The Hudson River, The Hudson River Park,

Pier Restaurant and bike trail that runs the entire length

of Manhattan

-3.5 blocks to Lincoln Center

-5 blocks to the Museum of Natural History

-1/2 block to the 72 street subway

The bed is a Sterns and Forest Queen with 600 thread count sheets. There is a 40' television with cable and Netflix, and WiFi, a multi-purpose print, copy, scan machine. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and the bathroom shower is marble. I am the second tenant to rent the space since renovation and there are full laundry facilities in the basement.

The Penthouse comes with Fluffy the female cat. You will only see her a little at first as she is a bit timid, however, you will be responsible for feeding her daily. Cat litter is out on the rooftop in a quaint old wooden dog house so you won't be bothered by that!

I realize this may not the season to be outside, however, the feeling of isolation in such a busy city is a rare oasis!!! And, being able to look out, or even better to walk right out your own door for a private view of the city is an amazing morning, noon, or evening event!

About Karen Nye

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan I had a great life living with the resources the University of Michigan had to offer. After graduating from college, I taught elementary education and continued my education until I graduated again and became the Director of John Denver's Wildwood School in Aspen, Co. 10 years later my son was born. Wow, no time for anything but wanting to be a mom. The bills had to be payed however so I started my own company which I still own and run today.

Built on the shoulders of my mother's company (Calico 'N Things), CNT Pattern Co. is very much a homegrown business. As sole proprietor, I'm one of those lucky kids who got the opportunity to return to the soft down of mother's wing. The knowledge she shares with me provides the base on which my company is standing.

After moving close enough to my home in Aspen to fully enjoy her grandchild, my mother encouraged me to produce patterns for her company. I had taught school, run my own school and written a book titled 'Building Self-Esteem For Decision Making: A How-To Handbook for Parents and Educators of Young Learners - Ages 3-7' (now there's a mouthful). With a desire to build a little more self-esteem of my own, I decided to follow my mother's suggestion.

Why Karen Nye chose Upper West Side

If you like the feeling of solitude, this space with it's windows and views wherever you look, above the bustle of the city is for you. It is quiet, yet uniquely located to some of New York's greatest performances at Lincoln Center! And New York's gem Central Park as well as The Fairway Market, Citarella's.

What makes this apartment unique

It is amazing to ride up to the top floor of the Parc Coliseum in an elevator and have the doors open into your apartment! 5 steps out of the elevator, open your french door and walk out onto your very own private rooftop with views of some of the greatest architecture in New York, The Ansonia, World Trade Center, Trump Tower.

A fantastic place to stay for anyone who loves comfort, location, great views and outside access

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Rooftop was fantastic. It is a well appointed studio that has everything a single person or couple could want during a stay in Manhattan. It's location cannot be beat for anyone who wants to be close to anything of note in New York. It's only 1 block to the subway which is your key to unlocking NY's adventures.

It has a very comfortable bed and nice furniture, with three windows which provide a lot of light and views of the surrounding area.

The rooftop patio is wonderful and provides a nice area for relaxation. It has a table with 4 chairs and an umbrella for those sunny mornings and afternoons, and has a lot of potted flowers which are a very nice touch.

Karen was wonderful to work with and we look forward to our next stay here.

A peaceful oasis in NYC

  • 5 of 5

We travel a lot and are picky about the places we stay. This little oasis atop a building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan turned out to be a wonderful place to stay. The hustle and bustle of NYC seemed far away on the top floor. Karen was amazing as we struggled to get to NYC, even offering to meet us at the theater and take our luggage back to the apartment when it looked like we might miss our Friday night show. (We made it to the apartment in enough time to get to the theater, but Karen's offer helped us to relax while we were stuck in traffic.)

We loved our home away from home! While the apartment is small, Karen's use of space is incredible. We never felt like we were on top of each other. There was space to relax and even spread out a bit. Sadly, the weather did not allow us to get much use out of the rooftop terrace, but we actually bundled up one morning and had a quick breakfast in the chilly sunshine.

The location was great with a subway station half a block away. While we didn't really check out restaurants close to the apartment, we did make use of the two grocery stores, the wine store, and the little French bakery, all just a short walk away. Fluffy, the cat, was elusive but finally made a friendly appearance on our last evening there.

We highly recommend the "Rooftop Lounge" to any couple that is traveling to NYC.

Enhancing our trip to NYC

  • 5 of 5

We needed somewhere we could relax and do our own cooking - the penthouse rooftop studio was difficult to envisage until we got there - but it turned out to fit our needs perfectly. Karen is a great host and Fluffy the cat a joy once she gets to know you.

In a word, PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

From Karen's warm welcome to the penthouse's location near Lincoln Center, the Natural History Museum, and all forms of public transportation, our visit was perfection. Karen was on hand to show us the ropes and offer tired travelers tips for close-at-hand dining and had even installed wonderful new sheets and basic groceries. The size of and light in the apartment made it heavenly for the two of us with just enough common area and individual spaces. (Pictures were right on target but can't describe the actual great experience.) The terrace and the views therefrom were delicious although the weather did not permit optimum usage. And the piece de resistance, of course, is feline queen, Fluffy, who after careful vetting welcomed us to her space. We can't enough good the experience and intend to return. A Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed out stay very much. Clean, efficient apartment, an adorable cat, and wonderful staff in the building. We were comfortable, not at all crowded. The main room has very high ceilings and windows on 3 sides - very open and airy. We made meals in the small kitchen which is very well ordered. The location is ideal with busses, subways, lots of taxis and walking distance to many of the things we were interested in.

It is also amazingly quiet and we slept soundly!
