We came as a family (girls) vacation with moms, sisters, and aunts. It was wonderful to do nothing and sit in front of the picture window and unwind. No TV, phones, or internet. Just a beautiful view and the fire. The house was exactly as advertised and the owners were very responsive to my questions.
Sky Acres Lodge-Absolutely Wonderful
We had 3 couples at our stay at Sky Acres Lodge . We love the property and the view! Our favorite part was the Great Room! It was so homey, warm, and cozy. The owner, Tanya, was very easy to work with and very prompt in her responses. We will definitely be going back. A couple of things to think about; there are quite a lot of stairs to the lake and they are very awkward to walk up and down, and the dock needs a little work.
Hidden seclusion with a perfect view in the most cozy cabin ever.
We had the most amazing time in Tanya's cabin. Everything about it was perfect. From the view and paddling on the lake in the canoe; to the close proximity to town and hiking. The cabin was clean and tidy and so comfortable. We had a great time by the fireplace and many intense games of checkers in front of one of the biggest picture windows I have ever seen. I think about the trip often as it was one of our top getaways ever. We can't wait to come back!
Beautiful location, aging cabin
We loved staying at Sky Acres Lodge, the view is perfect and we basically lived on the front porch. In late Aug bugs aren't bad until dusk, but then they have a lovely screened area with the same view.
Pros: Exceptional view, close to cute town of Saranac Lake (10 min drive), lots of great hiking within short drives, can swim right from the dock, large living room. Nice dining room. Canoe was great to have. Kitchen was large and adequate.
Cons: Bathrooms are a little musty, beds a little squeaky, overall some wear and tear that you'd expect from a cabin this old. Two of the bedrooms are connected and therefore I think this is a little over-priced given the wear and the fact that you only have 3 private bedrooms. Stairs to the dock do look in need of repair. As noted in the description, there are many stairs down to the dock so someone with mobility issues would not be able to access the water.
Overall I would recommend because the location and view are just amazing, but don't expect any frills. Thanks Tanya and family for sharing your home!
Incredible week at the lake
Beautiful property, comfortable with breathtaking views. Close to everything downtown, Whiteface Mountain, hiking, biking, kayaking and great fishing spots! My family and I LOVED every minute of our stay.
Gorgeous panoramic views in a rustic setting.
It’s a blessing when a property owner shares their personal domain so that others can experience what they love so much. It’s apparent that this has been in the family for a long time with many personal elements and decorating touches spanning back many years. We had the added bonus of meeting one of the owners and getting history on the house and the secluded area of hundreds of acres just 3 miles outside of Saranac Village. Plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the views both inside and out. Kitchen functional for cooking and we used the grill as well. Mattresses were comfortable as well. Outdoor space includes screened in and covered porch. We had 6 adults, could have used a couple more chairs for all 6 to sit outside together. The kiddie picnic table was not needed by us but useful I suppose if you have little ones. Fireplace and plenty of seasoned wood was nice, we actually had fires as it cooled into low 50s the nights we were there. The original part of the house goes back to the 50s and it is apparent a few repairs need to be done but they are aware and working on them, nothing entirely unsafe but some structural floor issues in a couple areas of the house. However I would not be comfortable with small children.
The house is perched up on a big hill/ rock and there are about 70 rickety steps down to the small dock. The dock was in need of repair and they are working on that and their boathouse. It would be nice to have a small area near the dock to better enjoy being near the water but the other issue was the bugs. Make sure you have your deep woods off handy, they were voracious the days we were there. Apparently, many areas are sprayed from the air but the majority land owner in the area who owns over 500acres next to this house wants it to be natural and they don’t treat. Bonus is that there is a very nice walking trail nearby and a beautiful garden as well. Not sure if I would rent this exact property again but I’m certain it is a one of a kind with unsurpassed beautiful views of the mountains and water. Owners were responsive to every question we had during our stay.
