Casa Canuck has an amazing combination of proximity, seclusion and complimentary conveniences that other rentals just don't have! Located in West End, on the water at Mangrove Bight, you have only a short walk to the lively center of West End, or to some of the best snorkeling in the world at Half Moon Bay. At home, you can unwind in the quiet and peaceful setting of a tropical oasis, watching the hummingbirds, butterflies, geckos, and other wildlife.
You will be able to relax in your suite or on your private deck overlooking the mangroves and jungle greenery. You can also enjoy direct water access or an evening under the stars on Mangrove Bight from our private dock, and even arrange to be picked up right from the dock for many water activities.
A one-minute walk gets you onto the newly paved West End road where you can find the many dive shops, fishing charters, dining options, shops and nightlife that unique West End offers. We are also ideally located for people looking for accomodations while completing dive courses. Check out EcoDivers and Coconut Tree Divers, both within 2 blocks of home.
We live upstairs full-time, so we are close by if you need anything, but we fully respect our guests' privacy. We are regular friendly people and would also enjoy sharing a visit and a beverage on the dock if you like!
During our time living here, we have learned about good restaurants, things to do, places to go and people that can help you with your Roatan vacation 'bucket list'. Let us know what you are interested in, and we will do our best to get you in contact with the right people.
Each of our two suites has a queen bed, full bath, private east-side deck, shared west-side deck, ceiling fans, flat-screen cable TV, internet, 2-burner cooktop, microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, water dispenser and drinking water, bistro table and chairs and AC. There is a nice hammock and two zero-G recliner lawn chairs on your private deck, and night security on the property. We also have a propane BBQ/grill for guest use.
Our guests' comfort and relaxation is our main priority! We want your stay to be restful and easy, so we have thought of the little conveniences for you. Coffee? Salt and Pepper? Cold beverages in the fridge when you arrive? We thought of that! Flashlight? Umbrellas? Clothesline? We thought of that, too. Liquid Tide for hand washables? Hangers? Laundry basket? You bet. Scissors? Baggies? Can opener? Yes, even those! Wine glasses? Corkscrew? Candles? Definitely. There is an extra rod in the shower for hanging bathing suits, etc, free snorkel gear for you to borrow, free access to kayaks, and a local cell phone for you to use while you are here. Personal laundry can be arranged for a fee, and guests staying more than 12 days receive complimentary weekly maid service. 'Yes, we thought of that!' And if we didn't, please let us know!
AIRPORT / FERRY PICKUP: Let us know your arrival details and we will be at the airport or ferry to pick you up. We include a cold beer or soda or water (let us know your preference), a stop at the supermarket if you wish, and a comfortable short ride to Casa Canuck. Pickup and return is FREE for all of our guests.
We have a generator and live on-site, so you will still have a working water system and fridge (once we start the generator) if the power goes out.
Please, no smoking in or near the building. We love animals, but guests must not bring pets. We love children, too, but our suites are not suitable for youngsters. And if you enjoy other music besides the birds, the breeze, the boats and the seas, we ask that you keep your volume low. (Unless it is Salsa music, in which case you just need to invite us to the party!)
Getting Here - Often you will have no other choice, but try to avoid arriving or departing between 10 am and 2:00 pm on Saturdays. Our little airport is almost beyond capacity during those times and lines are long. We have found better schedules (and prices) by travelling to San Pedro Sula (SAP) and then using CM Airlines to hop from there to Roatan. CM is very good (Sosa is not nearly as good, FYI).

About Joan Cooke and Stan Wall
We are from Northern Alberta, Canada and have four sons from age 21 to 30. Joan is a teacher, and Stan is 'Stan the Duct Man' - our HVAC and plumbing company in Northern Alberta.
Joan Cooke and Stan Wall purchased this Studio in 2012
Why Joan Cooke and Stan Wall chose West End
In April of 2011, we came to Roatan for a single day during a cruise. There was just something about this beautiful little island that drew us back, and in April of 2012 we came for a week vacation, looked at a few places with a realtor 'just for fun', and somehow ended up owning this fantastic house in this amazing location. We moved here to our main house to stay in July of 2013, and will continue renting our studios.
What makes this Studio unique
The two best feature of our studios are the location and our free amenities! We are a very short walk from the best diving and snorkeling in the world, minutes from famous West End, but in a very quiet and private corner of the neighborhood. We have a mangrove and a dock on the east side of our yard, jungle to the south, a banana-filled yard to the west, and wonderful neighbors to the north. And 'We thought of that!' is how we describe our free extras.

If you have any doubts about staying at Casa Canuck or Roatan in general, look no further! You need to go here and stay with Stan & Joan. My husband and I are in our mid 20’s and had an amazing time.
Stan picked us up from the airport (our flight was almost an hour early and he was there!!) and took us to the grocery store for the basics. We made breakfast ourself each morning and made dinner one or two nights, but the dining in Roatan is so great that you don’t need to go overboard at the store. Stan and a Joan have thought of everything for the unit—from jugs of water to plenty of towels, silverware, salt, etc. There is a grill on the property that you can use as well.
The unit was very clean And the porch was amazing. We took turns napping in the hammock multiple times. We also really enjoyed watching the hummingbirds. The property is very nice and we did used the kayaks a few days, another very nice perk they provide!
Stan had told us that they would be going snorkeling the next morning in Half Moon Bay and invited us along. To say I was hesitant would be an understatement!!! I had never snorkeled before and was beyond nervous to get in the water. However, the next morning at 6:30 Joan met us with a hug and a smile, and got us outfitted in snorkel gear that they let their guests use. Talk about a bonus!!! I told her I wasn’t sure about the whole snorkeling thing, (thinking I may just stay on the beach) but she is a teacher by trade and held my hand (literally, she held my hand) the whole time!! We even saw a turtle and a spotted eagle ray on the first day, so cool!! My husband is still surprised that I even got in the water. I ended up really looking forward to snorkeling with Joan every day; it was one of the many highlights of our trip!
Joan put together a informational booklet that is in the rooms, to give you insight about the room, general island knowledge, restaurants, and things to do. We did pay Stan to take us on a tour one day, and we did a mangrove tour which was totally worth it! They also took us to get rum cake and do the zip lining at Gumbalimba-awesome experience! I should also admit that I still dream about the taco Tuesday that they took us to!! They were $1 tacos and they were so gooood!
Overall this was a perfect vacation! If you are planning a stay in Roatan, you need to stay at Casa Canuck. Stan and Joan really will enhance your stay on the island, and we will be back!!
Great Accomodations, Excellent Location, Wonderful Hosts!!
We were first time travellers to Roatan. We were a little unsure of what to expect of and during our time in Roatan. Luckily, we found Stan and Joan and their Casa Canuck home. Their VRBO ad was well written, pictures were very good and we found the accomodations exactly as described and pictured. During the weeks leading up to our travel dates we had a few questions to help us prepare. We were able to easily communicate through email with Stan and Joan and have all our questions answered quickly. When we arrived in Roatan we were met at the airport by Stan. On our drive from the airport to Casa Canuck Stan gave us information on the island and anything else we wanted to know about. He stopped at Eldens grocery store so we could stock up on some food and beverages for the fridge.
Casa Canuck is a clean and well maintained property. We stayed in suite A. Like previously mentioned the suite is exactly as pictured and described. Other than a stove (but the likelihood of needing a stove is small), it has everything a person would need. And if there is something you need I am sure Stan and Joan would have it. It is perfect for a couple. The location in West End is excellent! Within 5 minutes you can walk to the beach, Half Moon Bay, restaraunts, beach bars, dive shops, a small convenience store, fruit stands and shopping. If you want to stay on or near their property there is a beautiful dock to use. You can even use one of their kayaks. If you want to venture down to West Bay, it is a quick 10 minute water taxi ride that costs $3 or about an hour to walk along the beach and ocean side.
Over the week we were able to get to know Stan and Joan. They are very friendly and make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your stay in Roatan.
We were fortunate to find Stan and Joan and the Casa Canuck for our stay in Roatan. Thank you for being such gracious hosts.
If you are considering a trip to Roatan do not hesitate to go. We found the people who live there friendly and very welcoming. We felt safe there and we definitely will be back.
They went would of their way to be helpful, enjoyed the stay, will be back.
Knowlegable and very helpful!
If this is your first visit to Roatan you need to stay at Casa Canuck. A friendly face greets you at the airport and becomes the best tour guide on the island. Stan kindly drove to a grocery store for us to stock our fridge and gave us helpful information along the way. The rooms are immaculate and Stan and Joan are there to help with any quesitons. We felt like we had our own little comfort zone to come home to each day. Our vacation experience has been wonderful thanks in part to Stan and Joan taking the time to show us what makes Roatan such a wonderful place to vacation. Highly recommend the Casa Canuck as a great home base, friendly, great location, and lots of great extras.
Great time in a great place.
Couldn't be better. Location, service and price it is just right. The unit had everything that we need. Clean, comfortable, nice wiew, central location to go everywhere. The management very friendly and helpful.
Great Location, Awesome Owner
We spent a long weekend at Casa Canuck and we couldn't have asked for a better weekend getaway. Joan was a fantastic host. She has almost every aspect of your trip covered. We didn't do much pre-planning before our trip and Joan gave us all of the information, recommendations and ideas that we needed to fill our entire trip. She provides a booklet with everything you could possibly need to know, including some things that I would consider vastly above and beyond. She picked us up from the airport and took us back to the airport bright and early when we left. She and her husband live in the upstairs unit so she is always close by to answer any questions or help you if you need anything.
The property is in a great location too. You only have to walk a short distance to get all the beach/diving/shopping/food (Baleadas galore!)/and entertainment that you will need for a jam packed long weekend or relaxed week stay. We spent most of our time walking up and down the West End, which is right where Casa Canuck is located. This property is at the end of the busy strip though. so it's tucked away from the noise and all of the people. We felt very safe, and they even have a night watchman which made us feel more secure when we were coming and going every night. It was a private location, tucked into the mangroves right on the water, with a private dock as well (only shared with the couple of other rentals in that unit). We fully enjoyed using the hammock on our balcony, watching the hummingbirds, listening to the water, and sitting out on the dock several of the nights. The place itself was just what we needed, no issues at all, comfortable bed, mini fridge, basic utensils and cups, and a clothesline on the balcony to hang your suits and such.
Joan and Stan both answered all of our questions via e-mail leading up to our trip and sent a plethora of information beforehand as well with things to know and recommendations of where to go. We would highly recommend this location for your trip to Roatan!
Roatan is one of the best places in the world for diving and snorkeling. Half Moon Bay, ranked in the top 5 in the world, is just a two minute walk from our home.
