About the property

4 bedroom, 3 bathroom cottage on the river

River Song – It's the Hunt church bells, the river bouncing over a rock dam, and the song of the migratory birds that the Texas hill country is known for. This vacation rental is ideally located off of the highway and on the river just upstream from the confluence of the north and south forks of the Guadalupe river. Enjoy the private river front, which has a concrete dock that provides easy access into the river for swimming, floating, or launching a canoe, kayak, or fishing boat. Half of the 100 yard river front is a shallow stretch of easy rapids that are an easy kayak float to the south fork, and is just the spot for lawn chairs and swimming with toddlers. This four acre property has a front yard perfectly suited for family baseball games, star gazing, and wildlife viewing. The outdoor pavilion is a wonderful place to gather for a bar-b-que, story-telling and visiting.

This charming cedar and river rock Hill Country 4 bedroom/3 bath cottage will comfortably sleep 8 people. The combined living-dining room has a rock fireplace for those cool evenings and a wall of windows to enjoy your river view. The floors are Saltillo tile in the living, dining, and kitchen areas. The spacious kitchen has good storage and is stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils, linens and small appliances for your convenience. Downstairs has a large Master bedroom and a bath with a shower and a guest bedroom with a shower. Upstairs includes two guest rooms that share a bath with a tub/shower, and a loft overlooking the living and dining room. All linens and towels are included.

Conveniently located in Hunt, Texas fifteen miles west of Kerrville. Nearby restaurants include the famous (Hunt Rock Cafe) at The Hunt Store, Elaine's Table, and Rio Rancho.

Lost Maples State Park is approximately 30-40 minutes away, a 20-minute drive into Kerrville, 45 minutes to Fredericksburg, and just over an hour to San Antonio. This is an ideal place to stay if your child is enjoying one of the many summer camps in our area. Now taking “CAMP RESERVATIONS.” Make your reservation now for your perfect Hill Country vacation. About Laurie & Richard Blankenship

My sister and I are very happy to share our family vacation home with others. River Song has been our family meeting place since the seventies, and even our children who live out of state plan their vacations around times to gather in the Texas Hill Country. Many of their friends have come along and now claim River Song as their “home away from home.” We invite you to start your own family tradition at River Song!

Laurie & Richard Blankenship purchased this house in 1975

What makes this house unique

The location of this property is ideal. We are not on the major highway like so many others, yet we are on the river. Neighbors are just near enough so that there is not a feeling of isolation. Everyone enjoys the charm of the house and the beautiful scenery.

Beautiful, picturesque, and functional

  • 5 of 5

We used the property for our organization's annual executive retreat. The board of directors gather to make plans for future events and programming. We needed a space that could comfortably fit 5 and let us escape the city to plan out our year. The listing understated the beauty of the area. This was a gorgeous hill country home on a beautiful part of the river. It was easy to find and our team thoroughly enjoyed it.

The property was clean and well organized when we arrived. It looked like the lawn had just been mowed. All the amenities were better than described and we appreciated the recommendations to area attractions left by the owners. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for 5 people. The cell service was a bit spotty depending on carrier, but the wifi ensured we stayed connected to our technology tools (though it did slow down when we were conducting digital projects during the planning).

The owners were in touch by email and left great instructions. Things were labeled throughout the house so we were always able to find plates, towels, light switches, and other basics. I appreciate them reaching out with GPS coordinates since all but Verizon lost signal on the road to the property.

I would recommend this property to anyone who needs an escape but still wants to stay within a convenient distance of city amenities. It was a lovely bend in the river and extremely easy to get food, groceries, and supplies in Hunt, Ingram, and Kerrville. I hope we can return for next year's retreat since we were able to be so productive this year.

With the exception of big-box grocers and coffee shops, we didn't shop or eat out much in the area. We did find out about a Celtic Festival in neighboring Kerrville and were able to attend. I highly recommend that any visitor look into the Hill Country Arts Foundation. They have plays, concerts, and festivals at various times throughout the year. It was a pleasant surprise to get to sneak off to the festival, eat some food, listen to music, and then head back into session.

Thank you so much for hosting our group. You've set the bar for all future retreats and this has been the best one in the 9 years of our organization's existence.

River Song is much more than just a vacation rental. It is enchanting and Laurie and Richard have made this property feel like you have found your dream spot! We loved the decor and the comfortable beds! The house was immaculate when we arrived and that famous Apple Cake was waiting for us in the kitchen. There is no question that we will be back if River Song is available! Thank you to the Blankenships for aharing this wonderful home!

A great property with a wonderful waterfront!

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a quite area on the Guadalupe River. The riverfront is nice and beautiful. The house itself was perfect for our family of 7. Everyone had their own space at night, but had a nice large kitchen that we could all enjoy. The property was extremely clean and well taken care of. We even had a wonderful cake waiting upon arrival. I most certainly use this property again in the future for family gatherings.

River Song is THE BEST

  • 5 of 5

A group of college friends returned for another long weekend stay on the Guadalupe River. The facility is perfectly described in your listing. Clean, attractive and so wonderfully located. Crider's and Hunt Store close by where last minute items could be found that had been left at home. Kitchen is well equipped and nothing missing. Our group (seniors) ordered a golf cart delivered and it made trips to the river easy for walker or cane users. Would recommend River Song for all age groups.

People seeking a simple, outdoor life that depicts the friendly, western spirit of Texas have been coming to Hunt, TX for generations. Texans and others vacation here to enjoy the beauty of the clear, green Guadalupe River and the activities it provides. We are home to campers, artists, and musicians. In the summer, we kayak and tube the river, meet friends for lunch at the Taco Stand or the Hunt Store and go dancing on Friday nights after the rodeo at the outdoor dance hall, Criders. In the winter, we hunt white tail and axis deer, hike the trails and gather around the fireplace with friends. Nearby, Ingram and Kerrville offer art galleries, museums, and live theater. Forty-five minutes will get you to Fredericksburg, Boerne or Comfort for more quaint shopping and antiquing. Other day trips are Enchanted Rock, Willow Loop Wild Flower Trail, Winery Tours, Lost Maples State Park, bat caves, and Bandera, Music and art festivals are regular events in the Hill Country.
