About the property

4 bedroom, 3 bathroom cottage on the river

River Song – It's the Hunt church bells, the river bouncing over a rock dam, and the song of the migratory birds that the Texas hill country is known for. This vacation rental is ideally located off of the highway and on the river just upstream from the confluence of the north and south forks of the Guadalupe river. Enjoy the private river front, which has a concrete dock that provides easy access into the river for swimming, floating, or launching a canoe, kayak, or fishing boat. Half of the 100 yard river front is a shallow stretch of easy rapids that are an easy kayak float to the south fork, and is just the spot for lawn chairs and swimming with toddlers. This four acre property has a front yard perfectly suited for family baseball games, star gazing, and wildlife viewing. The outdoor pavilion is a wonderful place to gather for a bar-b-que, story-telling and visiting.

This charming cedar and river rock Hill Country 4 bedroom/3 bath cottage will comfortably sleep 8 people. The combined living-dining room has a rock fireplace for those cool evenings and a wall of windows to enjoy your river view. The floors are Saltillo tile in the living, dining, and kitchen areas. The spacious kitchen has good storage and is stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils, linens and small appliances for your convenience. Downstairs has a large Master bedroom and a bath with a shower and a guest bedroom with a shower. Upstairs includes two guest rooms that share a bath with a tub/shower, and a loft overlooking the living and dining room. All linens and towels are included.

About Laurie & Richard Blankenship

My sister and I are very happy to share our family vacation home with others. River Song has been our family meeting place since the seventies, and even our children who live out of state plan their vacations around times to gather in the Texas Hill Country. Many of their friends have come along and now claim River Song as their “home away from home.” We invite you to start your own family tradition at River Song!

What makes this house unique

The location of this property is ideal. We are not on the major highway like so many others, yet we are on the river. Neighbors are just near enough so that there is not a feeling of isolation. Everyone enjoys the charm of the house and the beautiful scenery.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our friends and us took our 6 kids and had a great time fishing and swimming at this quiet home, right on the Guadalupe River. It was peaceful and had all the amenities we needed! The river was easy to access and had a great shallow area for the kids to play in (which they did almost all day). The owners were helpful and attentive, and we really enjoyed our getaway!

Homey and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. It was close to LaHacienda Addiction facility where we had family sessions to help our loved one heal. So it was a comfort to find we were only about a mile away. Barring the neighboring highlines and weedy fields, the property itself was pleasant and sitting along the creek so peacefully. Everything and more was handy for ones use to be at home and comfortable. New mattresses with a bit more softness give would be nice though they are firm for those who like that firmness. The master suite needs a better air system as the musty odor gets a bit much with which to deal, but it is so inviting to see. The rest of the house is quite nice, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, really. Attractively decorated to feel as if at home. We felt invited when we arrived to find a delicious spice cake on the kitchen table. Now how nice was that to sit down from a long and tiring drive to a fresh brewed cup of coffee and a slice of that freshly baked cake. ummm good!

For positive criticism, I would require my maid to empty the vacuum cleaners dirt and store the appliance in a closet other than where a guest will want to hang their clean clothes. Other than that, the place was immaculately clean. inviting, and comfortable.

It was nice to have bird feeders to fill and watch the birds, to have kayaks and a canoe for playing in the creek, and chairs and benches under the trees while grilling under the pagoda. The swinging bench was enjoyable under that tree.

Thanks for having us.

Our weekend at River Song was once again a wonderful experience! The house was very clean when we arrived and the apple cake that the owners baked for us was yummy!

The owners are very friendly and always responded quickly when we had a question.

We highly recommend River Song!

Beautiful home on River front property!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the river house for 5 days my family of 7 throughly enjoyed the house and property. Plenty of sleeping areas, house was beautifully decorated with some old and new mixed in. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook and plenty space to prepare. The swimming area was beautiful, but we would like to recommend to the owners to clean out the swimming area where mush has built up by the dock to make it easier to get in and out that's the only reason why my review gives it 4 stars.

The tubes, kayaks, and lounging floats and chairs were a big plus!! Our kids loved kayaking down the river! Fishing was great too!!

Our family would stay here again for sure close to everything but tucked away!!

Owner's Response: Mother Nature usually takes care of the silt build-up along the dock but we did not have any significant river rising's this season. Dock access is still usable and there are several other access points on our property to the river.

River Song has it all!

  • 5 of 5

Our family vacation at River Song was a hit! Great cool, clear water for the little ones, and good dock for the fishermen! The house had everything we needed. We especially enjoyed the kayaks and floats. Someone was always relaxing or bird-watching in the gazebo. Laurie & Richard were very accessible, and we LOVED the apple cake! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

This property is clean, cozy and well equipped. The location on the Guadalupe is second to none.

  • 5 of 5

Our family has enjoyed staying at this property for many years during the summer. The Blankenships are gracious hosts anxious to make sure guests at their property have everything they might need to enjoy the house, kitchen and river. This property can accommodate a family with several children, multiple families or a multi-generational vacation. We especially love the cool breezes and sitting under the gazebo bird watching each morning and evening.

The house is comfortable and cozy. The kitchen is well-appointed with anything a guest might need. If you can't locate something you need, the Blankenships will make it happen. The expansive river frontage steps from the house make playing in the river easily accessible. There are kayaks, floats, river chairs, beach towels and much more provided.

We love River Song and can't wait to enjoy many more years at this property. Such fun family memories in Hunt on the Guadalupe!

People seeking a simple, outdoor life that depicts the friendly, western spirit of Texas have been coming to Hunt, TX for generations. Texans and others vacation here to enjoy the beauty of the clear, green Guadalupe River and the activities it provides. We are home to campers, artists, and musicians. In the summer, we kayak and tube the river, meet friends for lunch at the Taco Stand or the Hunt Store and go dancing on Friday nights after the rodeo at the outdoor dance hall, Criders. In the winter, we hunt white tail and axis deer, hike the trails and gather around the fireplace with friends. Nearby, Ingram and Kerrville offer art galleries, museums, and live theater. Forty-five minutes will get you to Fredericksburg, Boerne or Comfort for more quaint shopping and antiquing. Other day trips are Enchanted Rock, Willow Loop Wild Flower Trail, Winery Tours, Lost Maples State Park, bat caves, and Bandera, Music and art festivals are regular events in the Hill Country.
