Overview

About the property

5-star Lodge, 6 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 16)

Spacious riverfront lodge in an idyllic setting near Sunriver. The Mountain View Retreat is a beautifully rustic, conveniently modern, large 3400 square foot home on a very private acre on the Deschutes River just 10 minutes south of world-famous Sunriver Resort. If you are attracted to the spectacular Cascade Mountain region of central Oregon, this is the perfect place to take advantage of all it has to offer. The six bedroom, four bath house is situated right on the river, overlooking a wildlife-rich peninsula created by a large bend in the Deschutes River. Deer, elk, otter, foxes, chipmunks, eagles, ducks and geese, and many other species of birds are in regular view. Downriver a view of Mount Bachelor, with its world-class ski resort, opens up, along with views of other nearby mountains.

We are close enough to Sunriver to enjoy its amenities -- many of which are accessible for full- and half-day rates -- yet just far enough away from all the hustle and bustle that comes with resort living.

We have two other houses on adjacent riverside properties, one smaller and one larger. If this one doesn't quite suit you, or you need to accommodate a large group, check out the Riverside Lodge (VRBO 153403) and the Cottage (153385) -- 500 to 600 feet further downstream, on our same private driveway. With all three houses, groups as large as 42 can be accommodated.

The main floor of the Mountain View Retreat has over 1200 square feet of connected living area with a living room, dining room with seating for 12 or more, and country kitchen with both an eating and sitting area. This opens out onto a log deck that runs the length of the house, overlooking the river, with lounge chairs and two picnic tables. Two of the four upstairs/main level bedrooms open into their own bath. All upstairs rooms except one have river views. Ten can sleep comfortably on this level, plus one or two infants in our collapsible crib and Pack & Play. Bring a sleeping bag and you can sleep one more child on the couch in the Master bedroom.

Downstairs are two additional bedrooms, a bathroom, and a game room with a pool table and log bunk beds. All rooms have river views. Six can sleep comfortably down here. The hot tub, dock, and deck overhanging the river can all be accessed from the upper deck, or through the game room.

TO BOOK: If you click on the "book now" link, you will first pay the VRBO service fee of approximately 5%. You will then need to contact us directly to make the rental payments -- 50% due now, the balance due 45-days before arrival -- on a credit card over the phone. We look forward to speaking with you soon!

About Jane Williams

The owner's well-loved family vacation home.

Jane Williams purchased this house in 2003

Why Jane Williams chose Oregon Water Wonderland

Our family loves Central Oregon, with all of the recreational opportunities, great weather, and convenience to our home in Eugene, OR. We also love river and mountain views, and this property is one of the rare riverfront properties over here that is on the river with great mountain views. It is also a very private location--only four houses on our private road, three of them ours for vacation rentals.

What makes this house unique

We love this property for its outstanding views, privacy, the Deschutes River for boating, floating, fishing or swimming, easy access to hiking and biking trails, and the close proximity (5 miles) to Sunriver Resort with all the amenities such as golf and tennis courses, the new SHARC water park, bike trails, restaurants, groceries, and shops. (Sorry NO WEDDINGS! And no LARGE GATHERINGS beyond the stated occupancy of this property. Thank you!)

The Mountain View Retreat was FANTASTIC

  • 5 of 5

The house was very comfortable for our group of 16 people 13-15-21-23 and 50+ year (5 families), we all loved it. Living/dining room was great, very nice kitchen and well equiped and a good bbq available. All bedrooms very comfortable, master bedroom is super. Pooltable/table tennis area is very nice. Loved the hottub. Quit area, fantastic garden, river AND VIEW. Even deers one morning walking trough the garden. The balcony is very large and enough chairs for all of us and the patio next to the river was also perfect. Swimming in river is possible, but cold. We rented floats which was fun, started from the house but that was a bit too long, about 3,5 hours!! All communication with Jane was very good. We highly recommend the house. Thanks from the dutch visitors for the lovely stay. We'll be back.....

Family gathering at Deschutes Mtn View resort

  • 5 of 5

This was the third time I have stayed at this wonderful place w/ my family. We number close to 16, most years, and this year had four generations, our ages spanning between 93 and 2. We have made a practice of bringing paddle boards, kayaks and bicycles, and have had a great time exploring the river, which has a very gentle current, enabling us to boat up and downstream directly from the house. Our bike riding adventures have been primarily over in LaPine State park, 10 miles down the road, though we also bike to Sun River for shopping. The grounds and house are so relaxing with a large lawn, 2 decks, and plenty of places to lounge in and outside.

Unforgettable week in a Magical Setting

  • 5 of 5

The aptly named Mountain View Retreat exceeded every expectation, starting with that amazing view. Situated on a graceful bend on the Deschutes River, the view from deck is absolutely spectacular with the iconic Mt. Bachelor reflecting gloriously on the gently flowing water. It may be the finest view of Mt. Bachelor anywhere in the Sunriver/Bend area! It was as if we found our inside the Deschutes Brewery beer label.

This place is also a wonderful retreat. It's far enough away from the hustle and bustle of town to provide you with total privacy (save the lazing inner-tubers floating by), but close enough to the Sunriver resort to provide any and all conveniences you may desire- such as the aforementioned brew! The place itself is wonderfully and comfortably appointed, and it is much much bigger than it first appears.

Mountain View Retreat was the PERFECT place for our small family reunion!

Not kept up well

  • 2 of 5

For a house this size and for the amount charged was a joke. So many things don't work or work half way. The BBQ is so old the grates you put your food on are rusting away. The flame barley works. The first floor bathroom you might as well take a bath cause after running the shower for 2 minutes the tub is full cause the drain doesn't work. Both bedrooms and beds down stairs the family's got bed bug bites. Woke up and there red bites all over there legs. The most nasties part is the water condition. The big master suite has yellow brown stains in the sink from the sulfa and iron. We all took 1 shower for the 3 days due to it was so bad. At our house we had the same thing. Just got a water filtration system next to the well for $1400. The oven in the house took 3 times as long to heat up. We would never stay here again. The craziest part is there a old couple with four cars in the same driveway living in a attached house to this one. You see them everyday. No privacy. Update your house for how much you charge and get the live in neighbors gone. The people that own this house make tons of money off the live in people and vacation lookers. Shame on you.

Owner's Response: This guest is retaliating for extra charges he incurred... Derek did not seek permission to bring pets to the property and did not pay for them. After noticing they had two dogs, I contacted Derek to confirm. He claimed to have only one and became quite combative. Rather than challenge him, I charged for just one dog. AT NO POINT before this did Derek H report ANY problems with any aspect of the property! In the month between his stay and posting a review, Derek has come up with this long list of made up problems. Please read our other primarily 5-STAR REVIEWS for the Mountain View Retreat and decide for yourself... I do NOT recommend allowing Derek H. to stay in your home.

Beautiful Location

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I and two kids spent six nights during spring break at the Mountain View Retreat. The home is very large and much more than we needed, but price was reasonable. We just stayed on the main level, but all the rooms were comfortable with handmade quilts and cozy décor. The living room was comfortable and had a wood burning fireplace with the wood supplied - a very nice amenity. The kitchen was well equipped and had a stunning view of Mt. Bachelor. The deck overlooks the Deschutes River and a wild area across the river. We had the opportunity to watch hawks and coyotes hunt as well as an occasional visit from a river otter. Access to the mountain for skiing was good. Lovely place to be sure. It'd be a great summer get away when guests could access the river for swimming and SUPing.

My only problem was with the BBQ that needs to be replaced, but other than that all was good. The owner Jane was easy to work with and very accommodating.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed staying at our Mountain View Retreat on the Deschutes River. Thanks for letting us know about the BBQ so that we can take care of it promptly! (The BBQ was replaced with a brand new grill, Spring 2017.)
