The Space:

This historic 1910 Philadelphia duplex offers the charm and character of an early 20th-century city home in a prime walkable location. You're just minutes from University City, Rittenhouse Square, Chinatown, Queen Village, and more. Restaurants, Whole Foods, bars, shopping, and a dog park are all nearby, with a 24/7 parking garage just down the street.



Our duplex was built in 1910, and we’ve intentionally preserved many of the original architectural details that give historic Philadelphia homes their character. Staying here means experiencing a classic city property rather than a modern, newly built apartment.



Because of the building’s age, you may notice a few features common in historic homes:



• Some floors are slightly uneven due to the original construction

• Certain ceilings are sloped because of the historic layout

• Plumbing systems may drain more slowly than in newer buildings



Many guests love the charm and personality of older homes, but if you prefer the feel of a newly built modern apartment, another listing may be a better fit.

The best part of this stay was the location, within walking distance to many sights and restaurants. Overall the unit felt a bit dreary, not like the pictures represent. But it was clean, beds were comfortable, and very convenient. It worked well for two couples.

It’s a nice 2 bedroom option in a perfect location. The steps are somewhat challenging. The separate location of the living room allows some nice separation if you have 3 adults with 1 in the living room. Can’t beat the location!

So, given a history of positive reviews, I hate to leave anything other than that. However, checking in was awful! We sat in our car at the location from 5:45p to 6:30p waiting for a response from the host. After asking for the code I was told to go to the "portal". Told him I couldn't find said portal; plz send code. Nothing. I called 2x, texted in the app and ended up on the phone with VRBO for 20 minutes. Once in, found the place to be"jenky". It felt very DIY and freecycle, which I can respoecct, jut be honest in your post. Ikea curtains used to cover old couches, appliances painted to look silver, dangerous stairs (NOT FOR KIDS!), no top sheet, just a fitted sheet and comforter/duvet. Maybe that's the "character"? Having said that, it was comfortable, beds were fine and having 2 bedrooms, 2 baths worked out really well.

We booked this apartment for 6 people and did not have accommodations for all guests. there were no extra blankets or pillows. When we asked for them, we were instructed to look in closets that just had fitted sheets. Two of our guests just had fitted sheets to sleep with.
